the other day at work id been moving autos all day

in the arvo im meant to move a manual up and around to the carpark

so im chuggin along, go up to second

...i had forgotten to let go of the accel.

i looked pretty cool.

I always do a speedo check before going to a speed camera, since I'm always 5-10 over. That sense of worrying about getting busted by the cops means I'm also always aware of where I am, what buildings passing, and the cars around me as well as the way their drivers are behaving behind the wheel.

Generally the only time I phase out is if I'm fatigued.

the fact you can't recall it is just that your brain has decided there was nothing memorable/special to keep.

A couple of years ago, over the Xmas-New Years double demerit period I drove around obeying the speed limit, not driving in a hurry, just driving around like an idiot. At the end of this period I was going somewhere, and I snapped out of my phase-out realising that I had no memory from after I pulled out of my street to my current location nor was I aware of the cars around me.

I was shit scared when I snapped out of - driving with my head up my arse is a lot more dangerous than going a little quicker than the speed limit. But, that's how most people drive.

Things I do subconsciously:

* Try to pick the smoothest line through corners, within the lane

* Always need to be at the front of a group of cars if I can see one, or next to a gap in the next lane if I can't avoid being in traffic

* Do 5-10km/hr over the speed limit

I'm always concious or try to keep an eyes out who's behind me and leave a large gap in the front.

I almost had an encounter with a 4WD towing a boat a while back on Para Rd, in the stop and go traffic jam. The driver zoned out and before you know it, I heard screetching sound from behind me, looked back and saw smoke and big 4WD coming at me. Luckily, I stepped on the gas and moved forward to get out of the way and avoided the unplesantness.

So yeah,

always checking rear view mirror

always leave a large gap to the car in front of you

always have the car in 1st gear when stopped at the traffic light........just in case

my partner has noticed over the 7 years we've been together... that everytime i do something.. put my foot down a little, drift a little, spin the wheels a little, or weave through traffic.... i show no expression on my face... no smile or anything, and when im done whatever it is im doing, my left hand goes from the gearknob/handbrake and i rub my left leg 3 times.

its quite weird, and i never seem to notice when im by myself.

lol you must be like the rain man of drift or something then lol, remember the stranger the habbits the better the person is at a certain thing....

yep i do it all the time - drive to places i normally go but not where i was intending to go. Drive on the way to work and just zone out that when i think back i don't remember the last 15 mins of driving - like the suburbs i went through or anything.

I'm a big daydreamer - i was the kid that always missed her stop on the schoolbus because she was too busy daydreaming - got a lot of exercise that way!

What about when u have been driving on a road for years, your usual way to work or whatever. Then one day for some reason u actually look at some of the houses u are driving past etc and just go shit, as you wonder if they have always been lol

weird houses and shops etc. is how i know that im going the right way.

If i see some houses or shops that aren't familiar,i know i've gone too far.

Landmarks FTW!

*cough*

Stopped at GREEN light!! Often stopped at these lights. Driving along, zoned out, stopped. Passenger says "Erm, aren't you supposed to keep going on green?". :P

Fortunately nobody behind me.

Only happened a couple of times. Also driven through roundabouts and complex junctions and straight afterwards thought "How did I get here? I don't remember going throught that roundabout/junction!"

Doesn't happen more than once in a few years, but it freaks me when it does. I always check mirrors, speed, adjoining roads at junctions, looking ahead, etc, etc.

I've done the gone the wrong way one. Once and once only.

Drove to the ex's place, meaning to go to the new Gfs house. Didn't realise until I knocked on the door, it clicked, and I scampered! You never do that again.

With everything else I'm a defencive driving instructor, so I'm super anal about pretty much everything.

I subconsciously yell out "100 points!" everytime I run over a granny and/or her little doggy

my bumper bar is pretty trashed now, but with 15,000 points on my account should be ok to redeem them for a new bumper

:P

    • There's restrictor pills in the stock boost control hoses. That's how they set the amount that was bled off and hence the "high" boost setting. The usual mod in the day was to remove it and send the "high" boost setting up to about 14 psi.
    • Thanks Duncan, that's the best info I've read. Furthermore after learning about the PCM programming side controlling the factory boost solenoid, the purpose of the solenoid is to "bleed" boost when pin 25 is earthed, thus allowing spring pressure in the wastegate actuator to overcome diaphragm boost pressure, thus closing or reducing the position of the wastegate flap creating more boost as the turbo is able to spin faster. It's pretty cool to see a designated Pill to do exactly this, would have liked to have seen it with a tiny filter over the end for those moments in vacuum.  The constant bleed pill has now been removed completely from the system and solenoid boost control has been restored once again.   Case closed 😂
    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
    • Manual boost controllers (where a little of the boost was bled off) were quite common back in the day, because they were cheap and easy. Generally they had a manual adjustment screw rather than being fixed like yours. Down side is they always bleed boost, not just when you want them to so an electronic boost controller that uses a solenoid will have less lag.
    • Hello , im new here and i have A31 home build  RB25det neo stock eng / turbo  aem ems 2 blue connector  aem 3.5 map aem cas disk aem wideband connected to ecu  355 lph pump 550 nismo yellow injectors side feed aftermarket regulator  and won’t start with base aem tuner basic tune eventually flipped cas 180 degree so it triggers on correct stroke not in exhaust cycle  Now it won’t start Wideband reads 10 and 11 at lowest fuel setting  and will share calibrations soon for aem tuner i think something is wrong in aem tuner    please if you have any information, am very grateful
