I loved my R33 GTST, with it's extra boost and crazy juicy mods endat...

but GTST is not a racing car for christ sake!...lol!!

hey, no offence intended......but if people are going to drive it 'like they farken stole it', then ...booohoo, whimper, whimper.

;);):D:D:D

heh, most of the things you have all listed as "hate" i love. The fact that they're pretty basic does it for me...mind you, i wouldn't mind it if it would stop blowing up....yea...i hate that part of it....

Had a friend with an EVO4 who drive it like he stole it and it broke things too. Then again <insert "it's only a dressed up lancer" joke> :D

Any car you don't treat with mechanical sympathy will break eventually.

R34 GTT Auto,

who the hell thought it was a great idea to beep whilst in reverse,

any why does the r33 have a boot lock pin in it and the 34 dont lol

oh yeah the lights are a put down,

and skyline headlights , many of us have the same crap building up on it

im forever using plastic cleaner to get a nicer look when lights are on !

hey...

mmm...I would've thought the reverse warning was a darn good idea, think about the kids!..(I'm installing one into my line).

I had the R33 until recently, and I work on my bro's 34...what's a 'boot lock pin'?

Yes...the plastics used in the headlights (poly-carbonate or woteva the fark) are not great in Ozzie conditions.....plastic cleaner is a carry on product, usually found in the glovebox of many a Skline owner!!...lol!

Do you find that the lights look worse during the day, with the light off.

Cloudy headlights?...Maybe that's going to be the next big 'defect' excuse for us Liner's to endure...

People with air con stop complaining, at least you have it!!

X2

eight years driving in sunny queensland with no aircon. :P

after a while the wind strips all the vinyl off the moldings round the B pillars.

Year: 1996

Model: Stagea RS FOUR V

Trans: Auto

Fault/cons:

(some items compare to my old crappy 1991 Subaru Legacy)

- Hairline cracks appear on coils -- bad design, the rubber boot could come all the way up and the problem wouldn't exist.

- Rubbish fuel economy (apparently much better with the NEO)

- Rust under the wing mirrors due to bad design

- Can't see around corners easily with A pillar and windscreen design

- Mirrors don't fold correctly and don't stay in place they float around, the ones on my ancient Legacy were perfect

- Can't raise power windows after turning engine ignition off (Subaru and Mitsubishi gave you 15 seconds after car off)

- Door internals/Window mechanisms are loose and rattle prone design... even after tightening it up

- Overall interior is somewhat uncomfortable compared to Legacy

- Air conditioning is weak and heat from turbo soaks into the interior on long drives

- Aircon controls are annoying buttons instead of nice dials

- Only sold in Japan, so the interior is made for "midgets" e.g. highest steering wheel position is still low

- Small legroom, headroom, footroom, armroom... and kneeroom (leg touches the door rest at all times)

- Really bad rear seat legroom for a 4 door wagon

- Cupholders are low-quality, plastic-y and too small for a lot of drinks, the Legacy ones put them to shame

- Pedals don't rest your feet comfortably on long drives (foot cramps)

--Aftermarket parts problems--

- Auto-lights don't go off at night when turbo timer is active (without a turbo timer they go off when you open the door)

- My Tein springs and Bilstein shocks make the car very bumpy for everyday use

Other comments:

Owning most any car for >1 year will show a lot of flaws plus owning other cars that didn't have those flaws.

However, I love the power and performance of my RB motor, even if it's a bit rough around the edges and always costs money to upkeep... I can't bring myself to sell the Stagea and buy a cheap Toyota even though that would make so much sense financially and personally... I love having a big turbo six and all the electronic 4wd action...

The car's a joy to drive for the most part. The only real complaints I have of my 1996 GTR are:

i - airflow in the cabin is woeful at any speed under 100 kph making the cabin a relatively hot place.

ii - lack of off-idle torque. This makes it a real pain in the ass to keep up with slow moving traffic at traffic lights.

iii - the fact that any water on the roof of the car ends up inside the cabin when you turn a corner while having a window open. One would have thought Nissan should have identified this as a mistake.

That's about it really, I like everything else about the car.

too true..too true!

hahaha...this is a pisser!!....every jap car I've owned (import) has had this issue...even when using that brownish plastic lip visor on the window!!.....

I recokon that is one of the main reasons why the window switch-packs get all upset and dodgey!!....they are sealed units..but not that well sealed!!

Yeah man that irritates the hell out of me because I like driving with my window down most of the time. AARGGHHH!!!!!

haha!..yep!..me too!...must be the nice noise they make!! :bunny:

My bloody V35 duz the same shit too!....I can hardly-arbly believe it! :D

How come you guys don't have a cup holder, I have one(nobody else needs to drink in the car...the missus can share) but it's near our shifter and coin holder thing

96 33gtst

Things I hate

It's not 4wd, 50% of skylines should have been 4wd and they could have offered an rb25det with the 4wd ones (not gtr ofcourse)

It attracts bad parkers who leave marks on the car

Indicator cancels too easy

It's got hydraulic lifters

Finally : the engine isn't as strong as a 2jz!

Can't believe everyone has that much to hate on their skyline lol. The only thing that bothered me in my GTST was the indicator thing and dull headlights. The water on the roof is a good shout too but its only water :P

I can't think of anything that genuinely annoys me in my GTR...

It's a car.

2) largely due to the stupid 4.3 diff ratio, the manual gearbox 1 st and overdrive 5th gearing can be somewhat frustrating - first gear gets you only about one or 2 car lengths before you have to get second (unless you want to go to near redline every time you start off) and then when in 5 th cruising on freeway your doing over 3000 revs at only 110km /hr -- when its clear the engine could easily run at 110 at almost half those revs - even my VY Commodore cruises silently and effortlessly at 110 at less than 2000 revs - so in my opinion the R34 is just revving away on the freeway at 3000 for no good reason - a ridiculous situation- why did Nissan not provide a 3.2 diff ratio option?

1st to 5th are fine. The lack of a 6th gear given the ratio's employed is what pisses me off. An extra gear with the spacing they have would have been perfect but then you wouldn't be able to instantly push the pedal a little be on boost and able to overtake, you would have to drop a cog for the same effect. It's a bit of give an take. Personally I would pref the ability to cruise for long periods without hearing the eng rev so loud all be it off boost but 3k off boost is still to freaking loud in my opinion for a highway haul. My car is a T not an R so in theory it's main aim is to be a GT car rather than a track car homologated to the road. In this case it fails.

TUrning circle is horendous.

    • Just trying to get my head around this. At 5psi of boost, you turn on your wmi pump, and then you're using a 3000cc injector, to allow flow upto the actual engine, where you have your 6x200cc injectors and a 500cc injector. If the above is correct, what advantage are you obtaining by having the 3000cc injector blocking flow, is this just incase a line breaks between that injector and the motor you can stop flow immediately? Or are the 6x200cc and 500cc less injectors and just spray nozzle?
    • Welcome! New member myself, but I had an R33 back in 2002. Best advice I could give, based on my experience: if you're running the factory turbo, be very conservative with boost. I made the mistake of just fiddling around with the boost controller and cranking the boost for fun, and the end result was my intake pipes popping off frequently from the constant deluge of oil that was being blown into the recirc by the stressed-out turbo, which itself was siphoning oil from the engine and farting it out both sides of its centre bearing (or something to that effect). If I could do it all again, I would have gotten a new turbo and had a tune dialled in professionally and then just left it alone! Funny you mention the metal shavings in the gearbox, as I had the same thing - the probe plug (magnetic drain plug, essentially) would come out caked with shavings. At least it was doing its job. Not sure if that's just sacrificial wear and part of the deal, or if my gearbox was shagged, but I wasn't abusing it. Enjoy the R33 - they're a dying breed, and if they weren't $35k+ on CarSales in Queensland, I might have picked up one of those again, instead of the 370GT I own now (though I'm loving the 370GT, that big 3.7L V6 just hits different).
    • Howdy folks. I owned an R33 back in 2002, which was thoroughly beyond my capacity (financially speaking) to maintain/insure, so we parted ways in 2004. Fast forward 21 years (to literally yesterday, in fact) and I'm now the proud owner of a 2007 V36 370GT. I'm happily surprised by how much power the VQ37VHR makes, compared to the RB25DET, considering the latter is turbocharged. I had planned to add a turbo at some point but I'm on the fence about whether I'll even need it (though I do love the sudden onset of extra torque). Any other 370GT owners around the traps, I'd love to hear about your experiences with this car (good and bad).
    • Perhaps the answer is... more jacks!* *proper jacks must be used.
    • I NEVER think about using a scissor jack unless there is absolutely no other alternative. f**king things are dangerous, annoying and stupid.
