Mine is still sitting on the hoist :P

My donor car is arriving 12th may! Then its out with the engine and dash and swap over with the donor's engine ECU, loom, tranny, driveshaft, diff and anything else i see needs swapping.

Stupid freakin CVT's!!!

what happened to it?

you complied one for a guy here in bunbury with over 100,00km, i wonder if his will last long...

so you swapping in a standar auto box?

Edited by Midnight x

the long story cut short is that i was driving the cedric for about a week. Noticed the box starting to play up at cold start, slipping and surging etc...

Called CVT NZ and they recon it was the box fluid, ordered new fluid at $1750 then dropped the sump off and found heaps of metal on the magnets and very dirty brown fluid. Called CVT NZ and they recon its normal to find some metal. Put new bright blue fluid in, attempted to drive car for a a couple of hours and it was making some terrible scraping noises. Put it on the hoist and called CVT NZ. They wanted 11K to rebuild, i told them that i could buy another car for that and proceeded to pull the box apart for my own interest. Found out what was wrong and no tranny specialist in australia would fix it without costing less then 11K.

So i thought screw it, i'll find another box in japan and bring it over. 2 months of searching and countless people helping me look i found nothing. Then i thought i'll buy an accident damaged CVT car and swap the boxes over. Thought about it some more and realised that im probly going to get into the same situation again.

Kristian being the kind and considerate man found me a cheap ass gloria with a regular tranny that checked out well and its arriving on the 12th.

Then i'll be swapping everything over from one to the other, selling the spare engine and dismantling the rest of the car. Kristian has dibs on the shocks and CD stacker already :)

Moral of the story, DONT BUY A CVT Cedric/Gloria!

The CVT car we complied for a guy in WA had red fluid leaking out of the box. I called and told him that he MUST drop the fluid immediately and replace with some new fluid no matter the cost otherwise he'll be up for a 11K rebuild or donor car.

I thought about going manual as i have access to a 5sp manual Z32 300zx, but with no clutch, brake, accelerator and ECU to put in, it would turn out to be more costly then bringing over a donor car.

The donor car will cost me approx. $5500 landed but hopefully i can make some of that back in selling stuff out of it.

wow that sucks, looks like i will be retrimming in leather then, not buying a late model one later down the track.

i hope that the guy took your advice and swapped the fluid.

im glad i chose one with the standard auto... good work Kristian :)

good news, my car will be delivered to my house tomorrow, unfortunately i cant rego it till monday but at least it will be here. i will clean it up and take some more pics.

the rims are for sale if anyone is interested.

the chrome cedric boot garnish will be arriving shortly along with the lowering springs (how hard are they to install Kristian?). it will also be getting 20% tint all round

this is the bit that makes the waiting all worth it, when it finally arrives :)

I also have most of the japanese writing on the display screen translated into a 23 page word document and for $20 i'll send you a copy.

It contains information on how to auto adjust the windows, A/C, stereo and some of the buttons on the dash that are in japanese that are useful.

Email me if you want a copy.

good work Kristian,

Ben, i sent you an email about the document :D

my car was supposed to be delivered on thursday so i stayed home from uni and waited all day... and it never came. friday morning i got a call from seaways asking if the car had been delivered, nope, so the lovely lady at seaways rang the transport company and asked them what was going on and asked why i didnt get a call saying it wouldnt be delivered. She rang me back saying that it was being picked up from the depot that day and if it wasnt at my house by 2 to call her back so she could chase it up.

Had to go to uni and got a call at 11... it was Patricia again saying that the dickheads had run the car out of fuel and couldnt get it on the truck for delivery and that i have to wait till monday for it to be delivered by a tilt bed truck. she was very apologetic and i know it was out of her hands so i didnt say anything.

I know there wasnt much fuel in there, but how far do they really have to drive it, and how hard is it to put a few litres in to get it on the truck.

anyways, rant over, these things happen. hopefully it arrives tomorrow (better bloody arrive tomorrow ha ha)

i have decided to do some power mods first so that i can truly smash some trevs. heres what my list looks like:

VIP list:

Lowering - springs on their way for now, coilovers later down the track

Rims - 350z 17's for now, 19's around same time as coilovers, gonna do it right the first time

Tint - dad has contacts so i can get it cheap, around 14-20% on all windows

Bling - Cedric chrome rear number plate garnish will be here soon, will order tinted indicators soon

Performance list:

Exhaust - will get a Blitz Nur spec R and modify the tip for a more 'VIP' look

Boost controller - wont run too much, probably 13psi as the highest to save the turbo

Trans cooler - seen one on yahoo that looks pretty good, ideas?

Intercooler - not quite sure but will see what i have to do to fit one

if i can beat my mates SS then i will be happy and leave it at that

Ummm....I think my white one may be sold already lol...

You sure have sold it champ.

19 x 9.5 and 19 x 10.5 will be put on this bad boy.

Looking at some different headlight/ tail light options and coilovers and a kit right now.

LOL so much for keeping it simple.

Call me when your free kristian. Got organise delivery of automobile

well, she got delivered this morning :P

they look so much better is person than in pictures and its a lot smaller than what i was expecting. i had to go get some fuel so i could actually start it and move it around the driveway.

am about to go give it a good clean

the car is immaculate, with only one tiny scratch on the rear bar. should look good after a good wash and polish.

the japanese lady keeps talking to me so i will be getting the document off Ben to understand what is going on.

will get a thread going when i have it rego'd and some good pics

that explains it lol, i was just mucking around inside having a look at all the weird and wonderful things with the accessories on.

alarm goes in tomorrow or wednesday then its off to get rego on wednesday or thursday depending on when the alarm is installed.

tomorrow will be spent trying to get the tint off and taking the writing off the windows, then it will be ready to pass inspection.

anyone got any idea how much oil these cars take and what oil filter. the VQ30DE is listed for the maxima, i was wondering if they use the same...

Haha, I was wondering if you'd lurk around in here at some point!

haha pretty funny, good thing i didnt hack at it with a knife

cant wait to get it rego'd and drive it for the first time, been driving an '87 corolla and mum's '00 lancer wagon around... finally got a real car to drive

might see about getting the ETC out too, its hidden in the little compartment to the right of the steering wheel.

also getting a price on some tinted side indicators because the orange sticks out like dogs balls and ruins the executive look

so... i was wondering if we should approach the powers that be about getting a Y34 section like the V35 guys have.

since there is no other site with info regarding the whole car (not just the engine), thought it would be an idea to get our own section where we can post information as we find out so that people who need tech info can just go there, instead of wading through SFA on the net.

would be easier than creating a whole site dedicated to just the Y34 since there is only a handful of us

anyone else think that this is a good idea?

passed pits no problem, he didnt even mention the 20% privacy glass.

was done by about 8:30 this morning, all registered and everything.

will put in the lowering springs tomorrow, and get the 350z rims back off a mate on saturday.

the car is so smooth to drive, floats around a bit because of the soft suspension but the lowered springs will fix that a bit till i get coilovers

I'm surprised with the power and the amount of torque, definately brings a smile to my face.

when driving it doesnt feel like a huge car, the steering is very light and the brakes are very good.

will put some pics up on the weekend lowered with the 19's on and the other rims.

    • You are selling this? I have never bought something from marketplace...i dont know if i trust that enough. And the price is little bit "too" good...

    • It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about. Reliability of everything in a 34 drops MASSIVELY above the 300kw mark. Keeping everything going great at beyond that value will cost ten times the $. Clutches become shit, gearboxes (and engines/bottom ends) become consumable, traction becomes crap. The good news is looking legalish/actually being legal is slighly under the 300kw mark. I would make the assumption you want to ditch the stock plenum too and want to go a front facing unit of some description due to the cross flow. Do the bends on a return flow hurt? Not really. A couple of bends do make a difference but not nearly as much in a forced induction situation. Add 1psi of boost to overcome it. Nobody has ever gone and done a track session monitoring IAT then done a different session on a different intercooler and monitored IAT to see the difference here. All of the benefits here are likely in the "My engine is a forged consumable that I drive once a year because it needs a rebuild every year which takes 9 months of the year to complete" territory. It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about with this car.
    • By "reverse flow", do you mean "return flow"? Being the IC having a return pipe back behind the bumper reo, or similar? If so... I am currently making ~250 rwkW on a Neo at ~17-18 psi. With a return flow. There's nothing to indicate that it is costing me a lot of power at this level, and I would be surprised if I could not push it harder. True, I have not measured pressure drop across it or IAT changes, but the car does not seem upset about it in any way. I won't be bothering to look into it unless it starts giving trouble or doesn't respond to boost increases when I next put it on the dyno. FWIW, it was tuned with the boost controller off, so achieving ~15-16 psi on the wastegate spring alone, and it is noticeably quicker with the boost controller on and yielding a couple of extra pounds. Hence why I think it is doing OK. So, no, I would not arbitrarily say that return flows are restrictive. Yes, they are certainly restrictive if you're aiming for higher power levels. But I also think that the happy place for a street car is <300 rwkW anyway, so I'm not going to be aiming for power levels that would require me to change the inlet pipework. My car looks very stock, even though everything is different. The turbo and inlet pipes all look stock and run in the stock locations, The airbox looks stock (apart from the inlet being opened up). The turbo looks stock, because it's in the stock location, is the stock housings and can't really be seen anyway. It makes enough power to be good to drive, but won't raise eyebrows if I ever f**k up enough for the cops to lift the bonnet.
    • There is a guy who said he can weld me piping without having to cut chassis, maybe I do that ? Or do I just go reverse flow but isn’t reverse flow very limited once again?
