guys two things I don't have insurance but I saw the guy and got his number plate and make of car and colour as he drove off, what can I do ???

Also any panel beaters out there wanna quote me from a picture? I'll post it up when I get home sau isn't iPhone compatible =(

call the cops and get them to sort it out happend to my cousin some guys hit his car and sped off he got their plates called the cops and they took care of it but if i was you i woudlnt be wasting time on SAU go call the cops and sort it out instead of wasting time here

I did but I have to call Liverpool police now as it happened in that area will be doing that once I get into work but basically the guy at green valley police said they haven't got much power in that area and can only hope the guy confesses - bastard p platers!

By the way you mate have any insurance? Or did the cops actually get them to pay up?

well it wasnt me it was my cousin but yea they had insurance just thought they could get away with it. if he don't pay up make him pay up :) if it were my car and someone did that i would take my own action if the police did nothing :P

Don't worry I know where he parks everyday there will be a deep keying coming at him if nothing happens possibly Friday on my day off (and while this is not the right thing to do I believe it is in this situation because he didn't mind putting a dent in mine and running away)

Tell the police you want to take him to court, that this hit and run stuff is wrong. If you reported it right away they should go to his house and check on the driver and take a statement for the visible damage on his car.

If its under $500 damage, I suspect the police might not want to know about it. A dent would have to be over $500 though wouldn't it?

Is there some of his paint on your car?

Penrith Police followed up a parking 'hit' for me by just asking the owner of the car to come to the Stn. after inspecting his car colour and some of his paint on my bodywork!

He 'fessed up and ended up paying for my damage.

Hope you can come out with the same result!

Tez

PS had the same result many years ago, after a friend 'witness' went to bat for me

similar thing happened to me when i was across the road

i saw him reverse into my car

and he drove off

got his plates

but stupid thing was he did a uturn down the road and parked behind the car i was int ( i was sitting in my gf car at her uni when i parked across the street)

lols

i got his details and took pics of his towbar with my cars paint on it

and got him to give details

what u were saying about what they do is what they deserve kinda thing

well i thought that 2

because i was gonna get my frontbar reribreglassed and sprayed anyway

but because he hit it

and decided to run...if i wasnt there i wouldn't have known about it

i got him to pay for the entire front bar repair

my gf said only make him pay half or something

and i said if he left a note or sumthin...i woulda done that...but he decided to try and run away so got him to pay the full amount

Same thing happened to me about 18 years ago, so things have probably changed, but I went to the local court house who were fantastic, and got the money in the end (no cost to me).

So try talking to the local court house they may be able to help.

.

done the report, the guy said it could take up to 6 months as they get 6 months to investigate it..... WTF it takes em 3 mins to defect us but 6 months for a real crime I guess revenue raising is more important, but I'm glad to hear that some guys have won the battle with punks like this, how can I find where this guy lives?

if you have no insurance you will first send him a letter of demand. get at least 1 quote, but realistically get 2 or 3. attach them to your letter of demand stating that he is at fault and you want him to pay a reasonable cost of repair. if he ignores it (which he will). then you need to go to the small claims court. hopefully the court will find in your favour (they may not, that's a risk you run) and then they will direct him to pay you. but even then he may just ignore the courts directions and still not pay. considering the fact that he hit your car and drove off, I'm going to take a guess that he is not big on obeying the law, so if you do get that court win you may still not get a single cent.

If it's only a couple hundred damage I'd just let it go. you've reported it, hopefully the police will follow it up, and at least give him a fine or something,

Beer Baren is exactly right, except when it happened to me the guy ignored every piece of correspondance from both myself and the court, and didn't even bother turning up to court.

Because he didn't turn up, the sherrif went round to his house and seized his PC and printer.

Once this occured he paid in full plus court costs.

if it was only you that saw him do it that might not be enough. its your word against his, and a court will rule in favour of his story (assuming that the p plater will flat out deny anything ever happened)

    • Nah. Was just wondering if you were having a small stroke or if there was some slur/gaf/inside joke that I wasn't aware of.
    • That was a fark up, it's Salamanca Place I was thinking of. And now I'm curious as to what potential slur/gaf I have caused with Salamander Road, ha ha!
    • Actually everyone on the roads was really well behaved. The only person that did any minor tailgating was a local hoon in a Turbo Focus. Unfortunately we weren't going the same way so there was no grand initial D touge battle. Lots of people pulled over and let me through. The amount of "Hey man nice car, omg skyline, nice 34 man woo" was suprising. Like really suprising. Like almost annoying. My partner was obviously surprised, she'd never seen anyone in the real world point out the car/like the car/want to chat about the car before, so to have like 3 people per day mention it was notable, I could finally say SEE? SOMEONE THINKS THEY'RE COOL. Everyone was also pretty suprised about the weather. Every day was dry and about ~13-14C. Mount Wellington had a sign that said they close the gates at 9pm and I was heading up there at about ~7:30. It was VERY apparent that conditions were getting significantly worse by the minute on the way up and down. The road on the mountain was terrible though, it's no driving road. I have various suspension related questions now. Luckily it was only about 20 minutes from where we were staying to the top of the mountain as said Google maps. We only had the 2 nights in Hobart. We went to the Farm Gate Market though which was really good - And went down to the Hastings Thermal springs/caves down there during the day. I'd definitely be up for going back again, so luckily there's a few more sights yet to see. Didn't get to do the west coast/queenstown/cradle mountain so this was supposed to be a 'scouting' trip anyway of sorts if I were to one day do/take part in/organize a more car-focused trip. As for the boat, it wasn't bad. Well it was bad, but not in the way you're thinking. We did the night trip which leaves at 6:45 (though you have to be there ~2 hours earlier) and arrives the next morning at about 6am. There is nothing to do on the ship. If you plan accordingly and bring a book/tablet/show to watch/charger you can just chill out, take some Travacalm and just sleep through it. The food there is an extremely basic buffet that costs $32 a plate, or $14 for a $3 pizza. The way back we had a travel kettle and a few different types of cup noodles and made our own tea/coffee in the room. This was a far superior way to do it. At the very least book one of the rooms with beds. I guess as we were in the off season we didn't have room mates. You get an option for rooms with 4 beds (2x bunks) or a room with just the two bottom beds. There's also some option for a deluxe queen bed but it's much pricer. We've been on sleeper trains in Asia before so we figured this is similar (and it was)
    • You just gotta be really, really, really clear and decisive with what you want your end product to be. 99% of people who want this conversion aren't "I want to run a 295 front tyre!" so they don't really need the widebody. They just want the OEM body to look a little less dumpy, so bonnet, bar, skirts job done with some camber, stretch, slam. It's when you want that, but then decide to pivot later you get big problems. See also if you're willing to get an all in one fibreglass bar, and you're willing to accept fibreglass problems like cracking the entire item on a driveway, instead of just a piece attached to the bottom, etc etc etc. Decide this all before buyin'.
