cheez
yeh but its the law there mate if it was green or yellow or purple no isue, but neons on a car cant b red, blue or white as it can b seen as immitating a copper. also law is u shouldnt b able to see the light source, ie under car, cant see the neon but see the glow so ok Edited November 23, 2008 by cheez Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/246076-infringement-notice/#findComment-4278441 Share on other sites
jezza boii
I was under the impression that you were allowed to have neons... You're just not allowed to have them on while you're driving. I hear multiple different stories Maybe I shouldn't have just ordered those blue neons... WYTSKY
honestly... not much to whinge about mate, very easy fix and a small price to pay, I know it may not seem fair but as cheez said it is the law. the price that some of us have to pay to get are skylines back to what they believe to be acceptable and remove performance parts can be enormous! one thing to note though, I have a blue led strip lighting up the rear garnish of my car to show the word skyline ( check my avatar) I have never had a problem. one cop once told me its ok because it doesnt flash or "dazzle" as the cop told you...eg flashing or pulsing. does yours pulse? because that could have been the main reason why. rs73
I think it's written somewhere in ADR which applies to the legality of all lights of vehicle in Australia. I can't remember the exact wordings but basically: All forwad facing headlights should be amber (white-ish xenon are allowed if they're factory fitted ones), All backward facing taillights should be red Indicators should be yellow or orange Reverse indicator white etc No other colours are permitted, e.g. no green, purple, blue etc. It's all ruled out so to avoid confusion. Imagine having following a car with orange brake lights and red indicator. How would I realise that the car is braking hard if I was expecting to see a red brake lights but instead it was lighting up orange? Worse even if people have blue brake lights... imagine the car in front brake hard to avoid collision with a kid and the following drivers behind took a few extra milliseconds to think "what the heck does those blue lights means?" before realising it's all too late and you end up with a serious accident. Keep the neons for the autosalon, mate. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/246076-infringement-notice/#findComment-4278496 Share on other sites
cheez
there is just 1 thing i should add, with regards to colour placement on the car. u cant have red & blue light from the front and blue only from the bak. over the license plate is diff, as long as the ligh source is hidden Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/246076-infringement-notice/#findComment-4278489 Share on other sites
jezza boii
I would never use them while driving. I just want them for show when I'm parked. I guess unless a cop checked inside my engine they wouldn't know I had neons in there. RBPOWA-(TJ)
dont think your allowed to have a BOV, sound polution or what ever. be some were in the ADR. stock bovs on rb's work fine, been told you may have idle issue's or somthing other problem putting aftermarket bov on . someone WILL correct me, as i dont know first hand Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/246076-infringement-notice/#findComment-4278627 Share on other sites

Well for one, R34's have a stock BOV. An aftermarket ATMO BOV is illegal - a simple check of the law would confirm this (and the fact there is a 15+page EPA/Roadworthy sticky thread in this section) As for the neons, serves you right for having them in the first place There was a massive operation on all weekend from the police, so im not surprised. Either/or - SAU isnt the place to come and have a whinge. The law is there and no-one can change it Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/246076-infringement-notice/#findComment-4279001 Share on other sites

Keep the neons for the autosalon, mate. Check page 4 of the doc attached. I don't remember the details clearly enough, but a law was passed around 1914 making it illegal for any "civilian carriage" to have a front facing red light. The red light was restricted to First Aid and/or Police "carriages". Like I said, it was about 10years ago I was told but I believe that this is the general jist... As an aside... Why the F*CK would you put ghey neon on any car? DogKnight
From what i've been informed on a few occasions by police when asking about the matter. Neons are okay under these conditions: 1) They are not blue/red/white outside the car. This is because they are the same colours as emergency services. 2) They can't pulse. Similar to above. 3) The tube/light itself can't be visible outside the car. EG: You can have a neon under the car, but can't be so close to the edge that its viewable. You should only be able to see the light from it, not the actual tube itself. 4) It can't be distracting to other motorists. Now from what I can gather, this is up to police discretion. You can have neon's, but obviously you cant have so many that your whole car glows like a las vegas strip club. When talking to the police they have informed one or two under the car or a couple in the drivers and passenger footwell is fine. Just don't try make your car a christmas tree. This has been from my experience from talking to a few cops. Of course when not driving you can have as many on as you like, but while driving its a lot more restricted.
