Well time to get the 100k service done for me and I will be going to Gav's sometime this week.

But this post is for the mech I spoke with on the phone for approx 30 mins. Late friday I thought to ring up and make some inquireies about the 100k service. Now not only did this mech fully explain what was involved, but also suggested alternatives if I could not afford the whole thing done at once. Also we talked about many other subjects such as which lubricants to use, where to find bolts to do trans and diff changes myself, even though there is a great howto with awesome pics here, but still this guy was great, spent a lot of time explaining things to me and making sure that I fully understood and did not try to just get me off the phone because it was friday arvo and he wanted to get home.

At the time I rang, I am sure that it was past quitting time, and was not expecting to get anyone actually, so I am sure that this mech probably could have said, ring back monday and shunted me off, but he didnt, and that impressed me.

Gav's might cost a little bit extra, but I like to get things done right the first time and it looks like that is the attitude that the whole team there has.

Will post results from 100k serivce once I get it done.

yupp well this probably be my last post on this as I dont think I need to post anymore freakin awesome reveiws.

Well done the 100k service and the following got replaced:

1 x N1 Water pump - genuine nissan

1 x GTR Timing Belt - genuine nissas

2 x Timing Belt Tensioners - 1 genuine 1 not

1 x radiator cap

3 x driving belts

flush coolant

labour

All for $950, which I think is money well spent, the car is running smooth as all is well.

I definatly wont be taking my baby anywhere else!

Well Ill tell you about my experience..

EVERYONE had been raving about how good Gavins shop is, so when i was buying my skyline i took it to his shop to get inspected, everythign seemed good.. the chick that was answering the phones was unbelivable helpful .. a real nice lady and easy to speak to ..

So after the inspection which was ment to cost $55 including a compression lest, however after some talking he convinced me to go $120 and get a data stream..

so i pop down to the shop to look at the report, all seemed good, he identified a few problems.. however what i was not happy about was the fact that i was charged..

$60 for the inspection and $60 for the data stream ..

however after he accepts my money he informs me the ECU in the car is not an r32 ecu and so he could not datasream it.. Yet he still charged me for a service i didnt recieve?!

I kinda put that aside and was like .. ok ill let that slide..

that was untill i found out the ECU in my car is a stock factory R32 ECU!!

Now this has got me a little upset. Because i was charged for a service a did not recieve due to the ECU being a non-r32 ECU .. when its clearly stamped with factory r32 markings..

Whast the deal there?!

It could be a factory ECU housing with a mod chip fitted?? or some other change that the CONSULT may not have been compatable with - talk to Gavin as I am sure he will be happy to explain.

I have a 10 second R32 and Gavin is always ready to help and has solved a few problems for me in the past.

I do most of the work myself, however I will take my car to Gavin for other things.

He knows his stuff, so even though he may charge more per hour the time taken is often less (does not need to do R&D at your expense).

Regards,

Tim

Damn, my RACQ subscription was due in November but i haven't paid it yet because i lost my licence in November and haven't had a car since i've had it back. Would have just paid for itself...

Maybe i should ring up in the morning and renew it :D

Hi All,

Just had my car serviced by Gavin Woods last week after reading all your posts. Must say I was impressed with the results. Definately recommend him to anyone needing a service in SE. Queensland.

Oh, here we  go.. Now everyone wants to blow his horn eh?

I've been saying for over a year that Gavin is the man for Nissan + tuning + service and people have said "no go to this place".

Meh, they are more friends to me now than a mechanic :)

Christmas card buddies.. you know the story :D

Best. Mechanic. Ever.

Still no one understands why I drive to laborador to get my car fixed/serviced. Now you all know why.

And if it wasn't for me sitting here saying "GO TO GAVIN... GO TO GAVIN" no one would have known about him :)

You all know how much I baby my car, and for me to trust him or any of the other mechanics in his workshops says a lot :)

We also need to give recommendation to the other guys in the workshop. They seem to be forgotten when people say "Gavin Woods" yet the other guys do most of the work while gavins off in other parts of the country doing tuning :)

:D

    • I'm normally copping my own abuse from neglecting my daily drivers. "Those suspension bushes will last a bit more", "Don't worry about the oil leak, just keep topping it up". The project cars I'm always doing things slowly on them as I'm wanting them to be done better, and neater, and nicer. Luckily I don't have to deal with 18 year old Matt's "Learning to wire" stuff in the project cars. And there's only one piece of wiring I'm displeased about in the Landcruiser, and it's about to be cut out... However, the box loads of parts that have been going through this place lately for the Landcruiser... Brake pads Brake Rotors Full handbrake overhaul Wheel Bearings Seals Swivel hubs Steering Boxes Half the suspension joints Shocks Air bags (Ones to go in the rear springs for towing) Water pump Timing kit Lower timing case Harmonic Balancer Radiator Lots of other little seals and shits Gas struts for the bonnet New power window switches And god knows what else I've forgotten... Ha ha ha I have my fingers crossed the pinion seals don't start leaking on the diffs, that the transfer case doesn't leak, and the gearbox input shaft doesn't leak, nor the rear main seal. As they're about the only seals I haven't replaced in the driveline! I'm seriously eyeing off buying new caliper rebuild kits front and rear brake calipers... I'll probably recheck all the valve clearances soon too, and hopefully, it should be all good and sweet to haul some long distance trips again!
    • Every time I pull my 3x gauges out of the console and see the crack-addict way that I did the wiring, and I just can't bring myself to tear it all apart and "make it nice", because it is currently working. In fact, the last time I was in there I probably made it worse.
    • The best part is when you own the car long enough that you look back and find your OWN ham fisted amateur shit!
    • The annoying part about neglect, is when you start to replace one thing, and find ten more broken things. Ham fisted monkey repairs you normally only find out about when trying to do something unrelated! Ha ha   Neglect you can kind of anticipate the huge costs to fix it all. Ham fistedness is normally a shock the first time your work on a new old car, as everything "looked" good before.
