For a while now we all know about the crackdown on hoons, booze buses, drug testings ect...

but what i been spotting is rather interesting but scary.

last week going to the wheeler's was at traffic lights when unmarked cop pulls up right next to me...driving old ford falcon model ( i dont think ive seen cops driving ford ion very long time)....was a bit worried since i had 1 more person sitting in the middle of the 33..as you know theres no middle seat. but they went by and didnt take notice

then few days ago was at knox and saw under covers driving a toyota orion or camry...

then again i saw another patrol car which was a unmarked holden vt....

only way i realised they were cops was because of the jackets they were wearing and the antena out the back.

just thought id let some of you guys know to be careful as they could be anywhere and you may not take notice. so a warning ..if anyone attempting to do anything in public or around traffic ....look out around you cause cops may be closer than you think now.

i saw a MARKED sukuzi swift cop car 2 days ago in dandy. and im seeing alot more territory's along stud road / dandy area. i loled when i saw the swift all done up with the sirens n marked car. you just dont expect to see it! but atleast its good there doing a crackdown. get few nutcases off the road i guess.. lol

there are policemen who don't work in the TMU, most of whom couldn't give a rats arse about your car. Plus policemen do own normal cars that they drive to and from work while wearing their jackets.

yeah thats true aswel except with the orion/camry they pulled someone over and falcon had lights and gadgets still in it...duno about the vt though.

but still...theres a crackdown so everyone should be careful these days.

There is going to be a MASSIVE crack down due to operation RAID. We had a station meeting and our S/SGT has told us basically to fine everyone and do as many PBT's as possible as every stations stats are going to be examined by extremely highly ranked members.

So in next few weeks don't expect any warnings to be given.

isn't operation RAID more to do with breath tests and drug tests? that shouldn't make guys in sports cars any bigger targets than someone in a regular car should it?

i am sure the information given is detering some drivers from acting up, so therefore having a positive effect... if the higher powers are pissed off about that, f**k em.

and people complain that this guy is a cop... srsly wtf?

thanx for the heads up graeme

apparently dont know if anyone knows i red a article in go auto news basically saying very soon cops will be driving in victoria with wrx and hsv clubsports unmarked with p's on them trying to drag people and all that but the only good thing is ,is that the cops in the car will be wearing policy uniform

I've regularly seen an undercover corolla (grey?) sitting on Mont Albert road with speed cam attatched, very sneaky.

Also there is regularly a older falcon wagon (cant remember if it was green or maroon) on Warrigal road towards the Canterbury road end.

*In the voice off the add* POLICE ARE EVERYWHERE.

man under cover or not..there are cops everywhere......tonight in taylors lakes i spotted about 6 marked and 1 undercover using the speed gun...spotted 3 marked cars in the matter of a minute.

    • So.....wire it up appropriately. You can't use the resister pack with those injectors anyway.
    • that’s the thing i’m on ID1050s and haltech not getting power due to the injector resistor
    • ahh okay cheers, i was thinking of just going for the m073, think m079 would be way too overkill considering they are same size.
    • My first car was a HG. I'm very familiar with them. A mild cam upgrade is a good idea. The 186 is a very flexible engine - meaning it has good torque from down low. You can give up a little torque down low for quite a lot more excitement in the mid range, and a bit more up top - but they are not exactly a rev monster. You need to upgrade valve springs at the minimum. For a bigger cam, you'd want to make sure it wasn't still running the original fibre cam gear. That would be unlikely, given that most of them shat themselves in the 70s and 80s, but still within the realms of possibility. Metal cam gear required. Carbies are a huge issue. The classic upgrade was always a Holley 350, which works, but is usually pretty bad for fuel consumption. The 186S had a 2 barrel Stromberg on it that was very similar to the one on the 253, and is a reasonable thing if you can find one, and find someone to help you get it set up (which is the same issue with setting up a 350 to work nice). The more classic upgrade was twin sidedraught CD type carbs, or triples of same, or triple Webers. The XU-1 triple Webers being the best example. You can still buy all this stuff new, I think, but it's a lot of coin to drop. And then the people able to set them up are getting fewer and further in between. There's still some, but it used to be everyone's** dad and uncle could do it. **Not everyone's! But a lot. All in all, I wouldn't get too carried away with the engine. Anything you do to it without a full rebuild for power and revs will only make it slightly faster. I am all in favour of a complete teardown rebuild, with nice rods and pistons, 10 or 10.5:1 compression, and a clean port job with at least a big enough cam to run 98 with that compression, if not bigger. And if I did that to a dirty old red motor, I'd want to inject it too, which I'd struggle to fight against the devil on my shoulder that would argue for ITBs and trumpets. But the bills would start to mount up, and it will still never make stupid power. OK, a few people still know how to build absolutely mental red motors, courtesy of the work that went into HQ racing and modern knowledge being applied. But even a 300HP red motor is no match for an RB20 with a TD06. So you have to decide what it's worth to you. I'd just put a set of 6>2>1 extractors, a 2.5" exhaust and an electronic ignition conversion/dizzy on it and just run the old girl like the fairly slow old girl that she really is.
