hey scandy, howd things go with the boost gauge?

I just got a defect caution for having one on my A pillar. My mechanic said I should be able to keep it but its currently slightly too high up. The police officer however disagreed with taht also and said I couldnt have it on there at all. I really dont wanna get rid of it all together but I dunno where else I can put it.

Any ideas guys?

dunno. havent gone through yet. always heard that a piller is illegal though.

some where below the line of the dash instrument cluster.....perhaps modify it to sit where the cigarette lighter goes or somewhere like that

mine *was* below the dash line...

Well you can't have it on the pillar, on the dash above the steering wheel, behind the steering wheel on the column or below the dash where your legs are, as these are all 'crash zones'.

Legally, just throw it on the centre of the dash like what some HSV's or FPV's have... That's legal. Otherwise you'll get hassled.

My gauges are legal cause they are velcroed down and not bolted. They are also ontop of the dash. The inspector at lonsdale wrote on my defect notice they are legal since they are velcroed so if I do get questioned I've got it in writting saying there ok :ermm:

so does that mean you can have them on your dash as long as they are velcroed down?

Thats where mine are. He was about to tell me to take them out on the spot but then noticed the velcro and said they are fine.

So i guess u can have them on ur dash. I just carry around my old defect notice if anyone asks.

Luke, yours is legal regardless if it's velcro'd, duct taped or bolted... it's not in any crash zone. Unless they've brought in new laws that state that area is a crash zone incase someone is sitting in the middle seat in the back, doesn't wear their seatbelt and goes flying forward.

Chad, yours is illegal. f**k knows how you got that through Regency, but that's the first place cops will look for a gauge and will defect you straight away... even if it's in one of those cup things. But, it all depends on the cop that pulls you over. I had a gauge there for ages and 2 cops didn't seem to mind yet another one did.

Where's the f**king consistency in this state?!

i read somewhere that they're changing the rules for where you can put GPS units now on the windscreen

they're talking about not being able to have it towards the centre of the dashboard, not in front of your driving position, and not up the top of the windscreen. so it'll basically be like mine, over by the a-pillar as low down on the screen as you can get it

apparently its to do with how theyre mounted. gps' tend to use suction mounts, gauges are hard mounted.

then the question gets posed

"what if you get a suction cup mount for your boost gauge"

still illegal. why? they wont answer

Clearly because the more information you have about the car, the more dangerous you are. I'm even getting rid of my speedo this week for this exact reason, should keep me nice and safe.

    • @Murray_Calavera iam just considering options 🙂 of course it is very expensive so that why i ask here 🙂  @joshuaho96 I looked at that GCG hybrid(i remember looking at it few weeks before) So this is "that" hybrid where i send them my turbo and they upgrade the inside to Garrett stuff and then they send it back. It cost around 1200-1300 USD which is FAR cheaper than the HKS and it is what iam looking for(i just do not have experience like this...to send something off to "upgrade" ) @tylink720 that is like 150 USD turbo no? 😄 I dont think i have the "ease on my mind" with this kind of turbo. I just put over 7000k USD to "LINK" up my engine...dont want to blow it up with cheap turbo 😄     EDIT: https://www.cj-motor.com/gcg-turbo-charger-for-nissan-rb20det-rb25det-high?srsltid=AfmBOooVeOZ6CZ6r1AIv5m-KPaa6BvudIPJTY8LW78khkd-gQlsaCht9 I looked at this and it seems ok? It is that CGC hybrid and it costs around 1250 USD (with back shipping). Do any of you have experience with this hybrid on NEO turbo? I quickly look thru the forum/web and it seems very good.

    • It's funny, as Ive seen plenty of people use them in cheap builds on YT. And they actually go okay, even though a lot of other maxspeedingrods stuff is terrible. Those turbos seem reliable enough, the only part being, a good quality turbo that is "identical" to it, will out perform it day in and day out. In both a lower boost threshold, and the ability to flow more air at the same boost pressure. As a cheap cheap replacement, not a terrible choice. For cheap and shouldn't blow in a day, not terrible (like other eBay/Temu turbos) for low cost and still decent performance, that's where the question comes in to play from the results I've seen. I'd actually find it hilarious to buy one, and strap it to a paddock basher or some other cheap as POS originally NA car, and send it to the moon!
