265 on an 8inch wheel? Overkill bad. + wouldn't look too nice as the tire would stick further than the rim. Im running 245/40/r18 and they sit perfectly on my 9.5 inch wide rim.
You have gone to the other extreme, as those are too undersized for a 9.5" rim

i got 265/30s on my 19x8s and they sit pretty much dead on in line with the rim maybe the smallest of measurements inside the rim, i got a pic that sorta shows it the best but cbf making it smaller and uploading

i had a set of 7.5"wide BBS wheels which had a total physical width of 8.12inches.

i highly doubt this variance will be consistant throughout brands. some may be accurate, depending on the shape of the wheel.

i'd assume this variance similarly carries through to tyres.

9.5 * 25.4 = 241.3

He's 4mm under, how is that too undersized?

Perhaps a 255 would look best, but I don't think 245 is too small.

Just going off a tyre chart i have seen. A 245 tyre is best suited to a rim with a width of 8" to 9".

You are kidding right? Why on earth would you do such a thing? It would look extremely gay and isn't doing you any favours for traction. Using a good quality 225 tyre ( Toyo R1R, T1R, etc) will give way better traction than a cheapo 265 tyre. What rear camber are you running? Unless you've got adjustable aftermarket rear camber arms installed you are no where near the ideal alignment settings for optimal traction and tyre wear.

Install some pineapples set to traction also.

Pfffffttt @ undersized. I know loads of people who are running 215's on 9.5" rim with no problems at all

265 is way too big for an 8" rim, imagine the side wall flex when cornering hard!

^^^ 215 on a 17x9.5 front, 215 on 17x10 rear. You still think it looks gay?

I think that comment was unnecesary. :thumbsup:

The fact of the matter is that there are sizes in each brand that have recommended rim width fitments, each brand's recommendations vary as there are a huge amount of different casing, sidewall and tread constructions in the industry.

Most manufacturers do not recommend fitting a 265 wide tyre to an 8" rim as it may be too wide and you can risk sidewall and bead damage from the extra stress of stretching the wall too far inwards.

Almost all manufacturers also do not recommend fitting 215 wide tyres on to a 9" rim as it is too narrow, can damage the sidewall and you risk pulling the tyre off the rim when it is under load (cornering).

So, it's simple. Any further attacks on someone, their opion, or their car in this thread will result in warnings or bannings.

Also, every tyre manufacturer specifies the safe rims sizes for their tyre widths and there are variances between brands. Some people choose to ignore those recommendations and go under or oversize, if you do so it is illegal and potentially unsafe. Its that simple.

You dont know much then do you. They sit perfectly with practically 0 stretch. And if you knew anything 245/40 in one brand WILL be a different size in 245/40 in another brand :thumbsup:

Are you really that petty and mentally insecure that you need to try and insult someone even after they have explained where the information came from and even after others have also backed my statement.

Others have also stated that rim width recommendations will vary, depending on tyre manufacturer, so we may both be right.

Before i knew any better, this is how a 275 tyre fitted on my 19x8" rim. I did all sorts or motorkahna, drift and motorsports events with these tyres and never had an issue, that is not to say that i recommend using such a wide tyre on a narrow rim. I now have 245 at the rear and will be going 235 all round once i need to change the rear tyres.

Yea 275 looks shit on a 8 inch wide rim (like you just proved by your picture), even tho u have such a low profile u can still see that the tyre sticks out further than the rim itself.

      This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.

      Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree.       My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.

      Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno

      Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
