there is ALWAYS someone on these forums who's just had their skyline stolen...or their friend/cousin/whatever...

they are very attractive to thieves, especially modded ones which are often found dumped ..... minus the 18's and all performance parts (especially bits they can sell easily).

depends where you live also...Sydney is bad

I'm in Melbourne... Its not too bad down here. In fact I'm not sure of any cars being stolen from people I know of actually ?

Touch wood, but I don't know of anybody who has their skyline stolen. Few have been broken into to steal a few bits, but haven't heard of a theft (of course that doesn't mean it doesn't happen).

Yes, they do get stolen in Vic.

But the bigger problem is probably break ins.

Tachos & gauges, timers, boost controllers, stereos, and all the other 'bits' that people put in their cars are hard to trace, and must be so easy to resell...

Not to mention other stuff that people leave in their cars, cd's, cash, phones, sunglasses, the list goes on.

yeah my car was stolen and found again in 2 weeks!!

enkei rims and momo steering wheel was still on it..it was more used for robberies or getaway or woteva..dunno why they didnt jus get a gtr...but yeah they are quite the stolen car..!!

someone recently tried to steal my frens r32...but they only managed to break into the car and stuff around with the ignition lock..i guess they amatuers!!!

and there are ALWAYs talk of a skyline being stolen..at most times..!!!

Skylines certainly are the best targets when it comes to the smash and grab boys. Them monster tachos and other guages arnt cheap and will turnover cash fast for the crims thats for sure I know speaking from experience. This time round the boost gauage and turbo timer went into the small glove box thingie under the CD player. The shift light I stripped down bolted the pill carrier to the steering cover on the left side out of sight and converted the light to one of them blue led washer squerters also on top of the steering colum cover looks neet and at first glance you miss it completly. Even though I have a top alarm system I still club lock the sucker with the lock facing the tacho/speedo gauges. That maks it tough for the bastards.

- Spend 5-10% of the value of your car on your alarm..

Get a car alarm that will go off when an intruder enters the 'bubble of space' inside the interior (like a viper alarm).. and/or has remote immobilisation.

- If you can't afford full comprehensive insurance get third party property.

- Keep your car garaged as often as possible

- Don't leave items lying visibly in the car to tempt thieves.. like cd wallets, laptops, walkmans, mp3 players, large amounts of cash on your seat.. tuck it all away before leaving your car unattended.,

And you minimise your risk substantially.

Thanks Boys!

Its interesting to see what lengths we need to go thru to keep our cars, but i guess if you want a skyline, you gotta deal with it.

Also does the turbo timer make cars easier to steal. I've been told many various things as the link into the Ignition system?

not that i'm aware of.. but turbo timers on manual cars make them easier to roll away and smash into things when the handbrake fails. This has happened to me twice.. my recommendation is just to go easy on your car a few blocks before you get home.

i think you mean "third party, fire and theft" - third party property only covers you when you crash into someone's house or something like that (not cars / bikes). third party, fire and theft covers you same as above plus cases where your car is stolen and burned or stolen - like full comprehensive minus the at fault stuff. (not sure if it covers stereo gear)

edit: when you're a few minutes away from home or any destination make sure you turn your sound system down or off. Also drive like a grandma (aka off boost) as well - you'll attract less attention than usual.

Mine was broken into in my driveway. Was obviously targeted, followed and watched as it was the only night NOT parked in the garage.

Alarm was bypassed (so not just junkies) - and they stripped it of it's interior. Everything was either taken or damaged. I was not a happy chappy.

I now park, lock and alarm another car behind my garge door everynight - so they have to steal that just to get to the GTR. All the bits now have their serial numbers registered and are engraved in non-obvious locations.

Have heard of another GTR being stolen from a dealer in Melb too. Bottom line - just be carefull where you park - but if they want it, they'll take it :wave:

You have to treat an uninsured car like a briefcase full of money - be careful how you drive it, where you leave it, etc.

even if you do - someone crashed into my mates car and then they ran off. just hapened that they stole that car and since the orignal owners weren't driving there was no way to get money from insurance

    • I seem to the be only person that is using a Haltech 2500 on an NA motor, I've installed a Bosch DBW throttle body to the OEM intake manifold and am having problems maintaining AFR even with the wideband o2.  It will run extremely rich at idle and up to redline, but under load it will go extremely lean in the 20s and i'm essentially having to rev it over 4k and feather the clutch to get it up to speed.  I've read a few other threads of about the butterfly, it seems removing the vacuum to it is supposed to have it remain open, i've noticed no difference under 4k with the vacuum line to it plugged.  I'm hoping someone here has had luck using the NA manifold with Haltech, and if they happen to have a tune for it.  
    • I don't know any details, but I really wouldn't be surprised if they do it as a LHD only version, at least initially.
    • Thanks for the replies everyone. Definitely a coolant push. Oil catch can is empty and always has been. As the engine is out now I'll be having a good look over things. I do have some detonation on the piston tops from a trigger issue back about 5 years ago. I felt it and shut off then bought a new ecu and changed the trigger. Never been an issue since. It never hurt the power, its made almost 80hp more since that incident but I will pull the bearing caps to take a look. If the bearings are damaged I will do a bottom end refresh. Head is being re conditioned at the moment and the block will be cleaned and checked to ensure it's flat. I'll go with a kameari gasket and see how it ends up. The other thing I'm not super keen on is the cylinder colours. I suspect this is from the inlet manifold. The plan will be to put it back together, retune and then stick a plazmaman billet inlet on it and retune. I'm happy with the power, if it makes a little more, then great, but I would rather just make everything more efficient at this stage.

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
