Hi fellas,

Nice forums!

I am looking for a new family wagon and the M35 has won me over. The mrs and I have had a quick look into stageas and decided that we wanted a one with these features:

TV/DVD (I understand that it wont work without being converted)

Xenons (not vital)

Sunroof (at front), Moonroof (at back)

Radar cruise control (Just for the wank factor)

Electric seats (front row)

I have a few questions which I hope you guys can help me with!

1) Are any of the above features standard across the board?

2) The xenon would be disconected at complience, I assume it is not difficult to rewire these?

3) Would you guys laugh if I asked if it would be possible to have a stag that meets the above requirements landed and compiled for $20k (MAX)?

4) If question 3 is possible, would the stag be in reasonable/excellent condition or a rough example?

Hello and Welcome I will answer as per your numbering:

1, The Electric seats are standard on ARX & AXIS, all the others are optional extras on a car by car basis, the Cruise control is by far the least common on the M35 Stags which is a shame as it should of been standard

2, Some are disconnected some are not.....if the wires have been cut then it is more than a simple replace the globe effort

3, Yes we would laugh, unless you like your cars with 150k+ kilometers on them, but you never know your luck. You would not need to spend much more though to get what you are asking

4, see 3,

I may be right I may be wrong...but it is my view anyway.

Fine choice in cars. You won't regret it.

1) As Jules said, electrics are standard AR-x/Axis, I do believe that Xenons are standard across the board.

2) Having just converted my car back to factory Xenon's, I can tell you that it was a pretty easy job... depending on who did the compliance. Tony from Northshore Prestige left all the good stuff in there (THANK YOU!!). As a note, Northshore now return all lights back to Xenon's for sale

3) With the dollar as it is, unfortunately I doubt you could meet those requirements. Try an AR-x or Axis on www.Carpoint.com.au .You won't get cruise (extremely rare), but you can get the rest... I am pretty sure that the car yards will drop their price for you, just ask :bunny:

I recently negotiated a price for my mates M35 from $25k down to $18750 delivered to his door in Melbourne. 72000kms, Nismo suspension & dials, Legalis R exhaust, Endless front brake kit, ARC cooler, Surround sound DVD system....

Find one you like & call the yard. Most are happy to do business.

4) Depending on yard, but most will be in excellent condition.

If you need/want more info, don't be afraid to ask.

Best of luck.

Have a look in the NSW section of the forum, and there will be some workshops suggested by the club. Some of them should offer vehicle inspection reports (for a fee, of course) as this really isn't the sort of car you would trust to the RAC (V?) or similar. They will need to know what they are looking at.

Sweet that works well, thanks for that!

Now the whole buying a car intersate. Suppose the car has 12months NSW registration, I assume I cannot simply have the car transported down to Victoria and have the rego transfered to Victorian rego?

Have I got this right:

- Organise mechanical inspection

- Subtract 12months worth of nsw rego from price

- Have the car transported down to Melbourne

- Get a permit from vicroads to drive vehicle for a few days

- Get a Victorian RWC

- Go to vicroads and get rego

Or is it simply possible for me to have the car transported with the NSW registration and get the refund on the rego myself?

Or you could do what I did & drive the car with the NSW RWC, then when it is about to expire, go into Vicroads & have the registration changed to VIC plates.

You don't even need to have the car looked at, just take the old plates in with you (make an appointment). Will probably cost you about $1400.

Yes, I was pulled over for speeding while I had the NSW plates. It was no problem. The cop just wrote me a ticket and that was it.

Hmm this makes things much easier. I thought that to drive a car registered in NSW that I would have to have a address in NSW?

Don't know.

Just told him that the yard was in NSW and he could see when the rego was up.

Filled out all paperwork via fax and email.

I did get alot of the "don't just buy a car of the net" from the fam... Until they saw the car, that it. Let alone, in my Dad's case, driving it!

Many apologies and impressed friends later, everyone that gets in absolutely loves it!

Hahah yeah getting asked a few questions about buying a car from interstate let alone an import!

I looked into this, apparently I have to have a NSW address (dammit!). But is the process I describe below correct:

We both sign a copy of the RTA rego papers and the dealer keep his section and gives it to the RTA and I keep my copy. When the car arrives in Victoria I have a few days to drive it around and get a Victorian RWC. I then take my copy of the RTA rego papers to Vicroads and hand in the NSW plates and get Victorian rego. Will Vicroads give me back the unused portion of the registration?

That sounds about right to me.

Don't know about th refund. I have heard that before, but never have, nor known anyone who has had to test that theory.

Maybe someone else knows the answer.

What did VicRoads say about the refund?

You can ask the dealer to get a shorter registration period say 6 months, so you dont have to pay as much...make sure the price reflects that

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/oth...rationnews.html

Depending on the dealer some have rights to register in another state, but they are mainly on border towns...but ask them anyway you never know...

Oh and drive your new car down to VIC....you will love it...and it is a great way to know your new car.

I strongly reccomend North Shore Prestige too to buy a stag.....great bunch of blokes

Hello,

Having been in the Navy for 10 years I changed rego so many times, yes you get the unused portion back from what ever state you changed it from, but you have to chase it up from them.....they will not freely offer it.

TV/DVD (I understand that it wont work without being converted)

TV/DVD - probably cheaper to buy your own than use the factory one, although Chris Rogers will most probably be happy to set you up with an Aussie TV/DVD player wired to the standard screen (I think thats what he does). :/

Xenons are legally supposed to be disconnected during compliance. Depending on how they're disconnected it may/may not be easy to reconnect.

For most of the features you mentioned you'd be looking at the RX model or if you want to spend a little more you could go for the AXIS model. If you're interested in offroad - you could look at the AR-X model (it is possible to buy this model and lower it I believe).

A few months ago, before the economy crash, it would certainly have been possible to find a RX for under $20K landed & complied. I bought mine a few months ago (RS model) for a VERY good price - Now however, I worked out its generally about $3-4K more expensive, not sure what the exact percentage is.

Adjusting the estimate - I think you should be able to find one in very reasonable condition (ie. auction grade 4, interior B) with < 80,000kms for under $25K. Alternatively, have a look around at examples that are already in australia, since these will now be battling the used car market over here and may well be cheaper than importing one.

actually RX, ARX and AXIS have electric seats as standard, RS didnt unless it was equipped with factory leather

Correct.

Oddly, as much I love my car's leather interior, I have found that my mate's cloth seats are more comfortable and much more supportive

They don't look too bad either, but no power or heating for him

(guys - just don't use heated seats while sitting on them)

(guys - just don't use heated seats while sitting on them)

yes we do....it helps with piles!.....so i've heard!

And you right about seat comfort....the cloth is better for comfort.

yeah but leather is leather. good for social events in the car  hahah

the heating in the seats is invaluble for the mrs, if it stops her complaining about the car/trip/music/me, ill take leather any day

Yeah, but it also turns your man-region into the human equivalent of a kettle. Overheating and boiling your friendly swimmers.

Not so good.

For sure

As the guy on the old Ford as said to the group of hotties.... "and you should ALWAYS choose leather because leather is easier to clean".

Still the best "accidental" dirty statement ever.

    • Hi, is the HKS  Tower Bar still available ? negotiable ? 🤔
    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.
    • Onto the android unit. You need to remove the top screen because there is a daughterboard to put inside the case. Each side vent pops out from clips; start at the bottom and carefully remove upwards (use a trim remover tool to avoid breaking anything). Then the lower screen and controls come out, 4 screws, a couple of clips (including 3 flimsy ones at the top) and 3 plugs on the rear. Then the upper screen, 4 screws and a bunch of plugs and she is out. From there, remove the mounting brackets (2 screws each), 4 screws on the rear, 2 screws top and bottom and 3 screws holding in the small plates on each side. When you remove the back cover (tight fit), watch out for the power cable for the fan, I removed it so I could put the back aside. The mainboard is held in by 1 screw in the middle, 1 aerial at the top and 3 ribbon cables. If you've ever done any laptop stuff the ribbon cables are OK to work with, just pop up the retainer and they slide out. If you are not familiar just grab a 12 year old from an iphone factory, they will know how it works The case should now look like this:
    • Switching the console was tricky. First there were 6 screws to remove, and also the little adapter loom and its screws had to come out. Also don't forget to remove the 2 screws holding the central locking receiver. Then there are 4 clips on either side....these were very tight in this case and needed careful persuading with a long flat screw driver....some force required but not enough to break them...this was probably the fiddliest part of the whole job. In my case I needed both the wiring loom and the central locking receiver module to swap across to the new one. That was it for the console, so "assembly is the reverse of disassembly"
