Dirty Yellow Headlights

Hi guys, i have xenons but at night when i turn the lights on theres a dirty yellowish glow on the plastic. Looks really bad.

I just tried today using fine sandpaper on the headlights to scratch it off and used ScratchX to buff it up but it still didnt get rid of the yellow glow. The lights are not foggy in any way, just get this ugly yellow color which i believe is the oxidisation and heat build up on the plastic. Im thinking maybe the yellow layer is on the inside but not sure. Anyone else had this and what did you do to fix it?

Yeah thanks mate - i dont suffer from the cloudy issue. The lights are clear as in the day. Just when i flick the lights on at night, im getting the yellowish glow to them - it's annoying me. I checked a few other threads before posting but no ones really mentioned if it was on the inside or outside of the plastic. i sanded mine down today and it didnt make much difference...

Guess i'll scrub them again tomorrow and finish off with some PlastX if i can get some...thanks anyway

Just have been observing... My headlights have a problem too, but not sure if it's the one as discussed here. My headlights look as if there are stains on it (like from water evaporating or something). Is it the same problem as the headlights losing clarity discussed in forums above and by people above?

Yep same issue, the water evaporating problem is the japanese acid rain, it also eats into glass on windows of jap cars too, it's a pain in the arse

mmmm....maybe that explains why on all the nippon cars I've owned, the window sill rubbers are always splotulated, or have some shit growth on them....anyone know what I mean?

Yep, I got some shit on the rubbers too.

Anyway, I have just gone to Autobarn, and they do sell the Headlamp restoration kit for $24.95 and Meguire PlasticX cost $18.95. The guy from the barn say the more expensive one works better and last longer. Check it out.

thanks for the input guys - ive just got back from the whitsundays so have been unable to reply. Skybarge, that's the method i did before posting. It didnt work but i havent used PlastX yet, i was unable to find it at supercheap and was told ScratchX was suitable as well so i used that instead. I'll hunt around AutoBarn tomorrow for the PlastX and apply some elbow grease to it and let you's know the results. *fingers crossed*

make sure u get some megures applicator pads or a pack of terry cloths also [should be two cloths in 1 pack]

you work it in a circular motion let the polish do the work. do a section at a time.

i applied a small amount directly onto the headlight and worked the area. then i got the other pad and wiped it clean off any residue.

i also used some of that blue tape to mask off all the surrounding edges like the paint etc. before hand because i didnt know how it would react to the paint in case i accidentally got some on there.

you will actually see all the yellow crap come off on the terry cloth! also when you run your finger over the headlight when its done it feels so smooooth

So like i thought, the PlastX didnt do squat....looks like i will need to remove both headlights, bake it in the oven, and remove the plastic to clean the inside....great fun. Not looking forward to this.

I've used plastic X its crap it didnt do much
