This better not be true i am really starting to like my ps3 now after it finally got some decent exclusives and it looks like they have a bright future. Plus less consoles means less competition which equates to lower quality games for the remaining consoles.

Highly likely its bs as why would they after all the effort with little success to begin with but now they are picking up hard.

My bet is that Sony will probably drop their PC division rather than dropping their PS3. Afterall IBM pulled out of selling workstations, and I doubt sony would sell too many +2k workstations and 4k laptops in the current financial situation.

PS3's still on track.. they've got big plans for that unit.. it's going to be their platform for at least another 8 years.

I'll find it very hard that Sony will pull the pin on the Playstation team. maybe downsize it. well from what I read the production cost of the PS3 has come down quite alot since launch day from $800 odd to $400 odd mainly due to the chip set going down to 65nm process (upgrade from the 90nm process) and lower chip manufacting cost and they (sony) beleive that break even point will be this year. Sony really needs to do a small price drop but given the current finacial climate that may not happen anytime soon.

Wouldn't it put a smile on Microsoft face that they can beat Sony...but i don't beleive it will happen

That's the funnist...Microsoft killed and buried the Xbox 1 like a bad habit but devlopers keep producing games for the PS2 and yet they still sell (not like they use to) but just goes to show how good a machine is that people are still buying games for it even though it's outdated technology and it's glory days are well past them

There is no way that sony will stop making the ps3. It has been the plan ever since they started the joint venture with Toshiba and IBM to make the cell technology, to have the console on the market for well over 10 years as it has a lot of power and wont need to be upgraded as often.

After putting so much money and efort into creating the technology and console they wont be shutting it down any time soon.

I was looking to buy a Nintendo Wii after christmas (with all the sales and such) and found out that all Xbox 360's and nintendo Wii's were all sold out. Only PS3's were in stock. The sales person said that the reason for this is because the PS3 was too expensive, pretty much double the price of the competition. Granted that the PS3 specs are way much better, the standard family looking for a console won't justify spending $600-$800 on a game console considering they could get one for half the price.

I doubt that Sony will stop PS3 production (come to think of it, all sony products are crap...but that's my opinion) as they have a pretty big market share already. If they can reduce the price to say $400 then i'm sure sales will sky rocket.

we got ps3's into my work (the good guys) just to see how they went. had them at 650 (not making any money) and we sold 5 over the weekend. we also sold the same amount of wii's then aswell.

if somewhere like my work who doesn't even stock them can clear them that quick then id love to see how easy for somewhere like eb could.

god i hope PS is pulled. Sorry but i am Xbox through and through.

PS3 makes no money, actually lost them a hell of alot of money due to the price tag and what they put in it. Is it meant to be their console for the next 10years? i seriously hope not, Wii was a step into the future of games in my opinion not PS3. Ive looked at both Xbox 360 and PS3 and i dont see much of a difference in graphics and power to warrant the price difference. Especially when most PS games are on Xbox anyway..

Oh and IBM workstations were pulled because they arent as good as the competition. Mac's are still going fairly strong in that market, but HP still beats them through and through.

Mac's going strong in 'that' market? It was the Ipod that saved Apple from financial ruin... anyone that uses a Mac should be slapped hard. Even guys I know in the desktop publishing world can't stand Mac's.

IBM weren't pulled because they were no good.. if you were old enough to remember the first PC's were IBM's. IBM was a giant in the computer world, they were the Microsoft of the day.. that is umm until Microsoft. IBM left the personal computer market because it was flooded and became a commodity. When I first started selling computers, we would sell IBM clones for $4000aud and that was around the 486DX66 speed. Now you'd get something like a Intel Quad Core 2.33ghz with about 8gb of ram, 24" monitor for around $2500. There simply is no money in selling hardware - seriously you'd have to be an absolute gimp to still be in that market. IBM realised this, so will Sony.

Sony makes FAAAAAR too much money to can the PS
Even so, according to recent reports -> like this one, they're expecting Sony to report a fairly large loss in their current financial year to 31 March. Despite the financial crisis and poor PS3 sales last year I highly doubt the restructuring will include shutting down their gaming division, however, their R&D department may see some cutbacks as they're the large reason for the continuing high PS3 prices.

ok a few things

just because you are an xbox halo nerd doesn't mean sony should pull the ps3.

the best products make a loss from their componentry,

wii was NOT a step twoards gaming future. wii is NOT gaming nor is it in competition with xbox / ps3 - it's a fun fad for the family to play on a saturday night in, it is NOT "gaming" nor does it push the envelope of anything.

the reason there's not much difference in graphics is because developers don't make much profit off selling their games to one single format therefore they make games to suit multiple formats, therefore, the graphics on say... cod5 will be same on xbox as they are on ps3.

the ps3 has yet to have it's graphics engine put to the test.

you literally contradicted yourself there. the reason you can't tell the difference is because games are produced ambiguously.

if a developer focused on the ps3 then they could make the best graphics ever

but why would they bother when they can sacrifice graphics a bit and double their target market by formatting it for xbox 360

GOD

^^^^ exactly - money is made thru sales of games and software, and again, why would a developer kill off 50% of their market?

dunno about the bluray market yet - only time will tell

there's no reason for it not to

but it does depend on the porn industry

they've made every other decision thus far!

Wow. perhaps if you took your blinkers off you would see that of the VIDEO GAMES machines, the Nintendo Wii has, and continues to outsell both the xbox and PS3 around the world.

Why? Mass market appeal. Anyone can pick up a Wii-mote and play. Or jump on WiiFit for some entertaining excercise.

You obviously don't think that the Wii is "gaming" as you put it because it's graphics engine can't stand up to xbox or PS3.

Imagine, if you will, that Nintendo decided to make it's machine as powerful as the PS3.

Would that make it a "gaming" machine to you or is it just a fad because you don't sit motionless on the couch with a 10+ button controller in your hand?

What if COD5 was on wii, had the same graphics as 360 or PS3, would it be a "gaming" machine then?

I will save you the effort of typing it, NO I am not a fanboy.

I have been gaming since the Intellivision and own too many consoles.

Nintendo have clearly taken the next step in the evolution of gaming by actually incorporating physical movement into the gameplay.

Unfortunately, gaming evolution usually only takes the form of graphics/sound (see xbox -> xbox360, PS1 -> PS2 etc).

Maybe with their next machine, Nintendo can up the power significantly to give the "gamers" the graphics they "need".

Also, you mention profitability with cross-platform games.

Which gaming company was the most profitable last year? I will give you a hint.... they only make games for a fad machine, and have been doing so for 25years.

you have completely missed my point sir, - did you even read what i said??

i have a wii

i love my wii

but it's not at competition with ps / xbox

because it can't GET games like cod5

it can't GET games like mgs

or halo or anything that's "Rocked the gaming world"

it DOES incorporate physical movement - that's great, i love it

but

it's not going to win the "Gaming" contest

why?

because it's running it's own race,

i think you'll find we're actually agreeing with one another

nintendo doesn't care about graphics, they care about fun. and that's what the wii IS!

Geez someones a bit sensitive

Your calling someone a xbox halo nerd thats just stupid man, yeah the guys response is a bit fanboyish but you have just made your self out to be an even bigger fanboy.

Claiming shit like the ps3 graphics would be so much better if they used its potential blah blah blah, is utter crap. Please link or provide some sort of evidence to suggest this.

Its pretty common knowledge that the graphics cards on each are really the same and developers agree. They are both good systems i own both and am happy with both.

This isnt the point of the thread.

    • I checked the injectors again (1 and 2, since they’re easiest to access) to make sure they weren’t clogged. Even though the entire fuel system had been cleaned, I wanted to be certain. Everything looked clean, so I reinstalled and connected everything. When I started the car to confirm everything was okay, it immediately revved up high, so I shut it off straight away. I checked to see if I’d missed a vacuum hose or something, but everything was connected. On the second attempt, the car ran without the high idle, but I noticed a distinct “compressed air” sound coming from the engine bay. Tracing the sound, I pushed injector #6 forward slightly and the noise stopped — it turned out it wasn’t seated properly, despite the fuel rail being bolted down. While holding it in place, the car idled steadily without stalling and ran for over 5 minutes. At this point, I pulled all six injectors out just in case I hadn’t seated them correctly or dirt had gotten onto the O-rings. Unfortunately, I discovered that I had damaged 3 out of 6 injectors (the OEM 270cc ones) during installation. So yes, this was my fault. Since only the pintle caps were damaged, I’ve ordered a Fuel Injector Service Kit from NZEFI to refurbish them. In the meantime, I reinstalled my new injectors – the car now idles fine for over 15 minutes without stalling. I have not attempted to drive it so far. It’s not perfect yet, as it hesitates when the throttle is pressed, but it’s a big improvement. Unplugging the IACV with the new injectors idles at around 800rpm, even with the IACV screw tightened fully. But this is probably due to tune.
    • I wanted to try and preserve the front bumper as long as possible, they're not cheap and are made to order in Japan. Taking inspiration from my previous K11 Micra build where I made an undertray for the Impul bumper, I did the same for this BN Sports bumper but a little slimmed down.  This time round I only made a 'skid plate' (if that's the correct wording/term) for just the bumper surface area, the Micra version covered the gap like an undertray. Starting off with a sheet of mild steel approx. 0.9mm thick 4ft x 2ft in size. I traced around the bumper, cut it out and cleaned the edges. Luckily I was able to get two halves from one piece of metal In the video I installed it as is, but I've since then I've removed it to spray and add a rubber edging trim. The rubber trim is suitable for 1-2mm and it's a really nice tight fit. The bolts had to be loosened due to the plates being too tight against the bumper, the trim wouldn't push on I used some stainless M6 flat headed bolts for a flusher finish (rather than hex heads poking down), I believe this style fastener is used for furniture too incase you struggle to source some. The corner's are a little wider, but this may be an advantage incase I get close to bumping it  The front grill got some attention, finally getting round to repairing it. Upon removal one fixing pulled itself out of the plastic frame, one side is M8 that fixes inside of the frame, where as the other side is M5. Not knowing I could get replacements, I cut down an M8 bolt, threaded it inside the frame along with a decent amount of JB Weld.  The mesh was replaced to match the bumper. One hole on the bonnet/hood had to be drilled out to 8mm to accommodate the new stud, once the glue had set it could be refitted. I think the reason the grill was double meshed was to hide the horn/bonnet latch (which makes sense) but I much prefer it matching the bumper Bumper refitted and it's looking much better IMO The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVZP35io9MA
