Even though 170 on a public road is a bit "spirited" I think they way the government is trying to bundle speeding into the same basket as drink driving and murder is rediculous.

A lot of their campaigns are based on the "even 1kmh over" bullshit, lets face it that's a load of bollocks. All speed limits are based on a decision by some twerp in the city planner section, or worse.

I've been on many signposted 100kmh roads that have put the fear of god into me if I've gone over 80kmh.

The government needs to man up, stop feeding eveyone bullshit statistics and maybe go for the truth. Getting the road toll to under 300 will be impossible as the drving population booms each year, maybe if they randomly disqualified a million licences it may get down that low.

Surely someone out there has tallied up that each year more and more money is injected into road safety, yet the road toll goes up.....how about we pull all police funding, maybe the toll will go down? :D

+1 on that. Some sections of Silverdale rd where its 100km/h i felt heaps unsafe. trucks heading opposite direction and all plus the roads just wide enough to fit two cars with an enbankment(spelling) and trees within 1-2m of the side of the road.

Good one the old guy for sticking it to the cops :D clearly he knows the road, his ability and car...

when we continue to lose motorsport venues (Oran park, Canberra dragway) this sort of thing will happen. the world is too PC and too quick to jump into litigation.

Thumbs up for showing some spirit :bunny:

I gotta say, without trying to be inflammatory or start a fight, I don't think it matters how well this guy knows the road, or his ability or his car, or his age or the fact that the closing of race tracks pushed him to do it, what this guy did was stupid and irresponsible. It's nice to see someone standing up for their rights, but in this case he had no rights except the right to remain silent (sorry :D, couldn't help myself).

I think it's very very unfortunate that this all happened during a sanctioned car club meeting... like we as groups of enthusiasts don't have enough trouble with being tarred with the "hoon" brush.

+1 for the inadequacy of statistics in this particular issue.

No hassles mate - everyone is entitled to their own opinion, why should I or anyone else have an issue with that :P

Normally if it was a residential street (60km zone with people everywhere) I'd be down on that behaviour... just really sh*ts me the way media and politics run so many peoples lives (AND opinions!) and jump on this sort of thing like it's money (anyone reading between the lines there?).

don't even get me started on the fact most of the people making such preposterous laws were doing stupider things in their day...

lol all that media coverage, and yet people who talk on phones when driving, putting on make up and not paying attention to the road are still out there.

also has anyone else heard that when they tried to enforce a speed limit on the Autobahn they had more crashes cause people were getting distracted so they took it off right away? dont know if thats true though but it sounds about right haha

I don't think that's true. I think you've got it confused with a small German town that, in the last few years, removed all of their roadsigns because they were distracting motorists to much. But that was for a main street and residential kind of thing, not for a dual carriageway or an arterial road. (eg, people wouldn't be doing 200km/h down it even if there wasn't signs)

300 people per year is nothing compared to all other causes of death yet its the most policed and publicly advertised vendetta against the population ever.

Fire the police force dedicated to the roads and train more scientists to cure cancer for f**ks sake and utilize national budgets for a greater good.

I remember when i was younger my uncle raced an officer in his SLR 5000 with me in the back seat.

That's true public relations right there and a sign that times have obviously changed..... weigh it up.

I don't condone acts of driving against the law though the last time i checked they were road rules and were never meant to be punishable by law as it was never made out to be a crime/criminal act and still is not.

Soon to come will be cars with monitors to automatically fine people when some entrepreneur figures out some way to make a profit from it. It is simply a matter of time.

I was pulled over by highway patrol for speeding early December to a hospital coming back from down south, nearly at my destination i was held for half an hour in morning heat until 2 ambulances came.

3 fines later i still have to pay for what an ambulance inevitably did anyway....Sped me to the hospital leaving my car in crimeville.

A disabled permit apparently has no legitimacy when your number plates are Slide though 300mg of Kapanol a day does as well as a straight shot of 15mg of morphine upon arrival.

I'm concerned and calling shenanigans. :(

3 fines hurts like a prick in the ass.

If the old fella wants to feel the wind blow in what little hair he has left then go for it, just don't kill anyone else but yourself.

If he makes it 301 per year its still a pin prick against the leading cause of unnatural death in Australia.

no big deal, stupid thing is he got caught !!!

pick your time, your place, and no one is in any danger whatsoever

slide: how you going aaron? havent slept for 3 days cause the knees are ruined. just missionary position ruins me for a week !

Firstly, I don't advocate speeding on public roads. I've said it before and I'll say it again, public roads aren't race tracks. But I'm annoyed as hell that the government doesn't actually seem to do anything to reduce the road toll other than fine people. If they in fact DID care about reducing the road toll they would increase driver training and awareness.

As it stands, there is more emphasis now on the 'virtual driving tests' than on actual driving when someone goes to get their p-plates. Apparently if you can touch a computer screen at the right time you're considered worthy of a driving license.

Same old mate, email me your number again [email protected] and will give you a call for some ammo.

Might start up the pain killer thread again see who else is broken now.

LOL it's got the media on the "road toll increases each year" band wagon....I wonder if they realise the inexperienced driving population increases each year as well? Most likely per capita the road toll is actually dropping, but that would just be a bit too controversial to admit!!!!

It is in fact reducing in overall numbers, has been the last 2-3 years and that is a LARGE decrease given the increase in population used to measure against. Coppers have been patting themselves on the back for quite some time. Any policemen with the actual information will advise you on it. Attend your local weekly driver coarse.. Can't rem what they are called but drunk drivers, speeders, repetitive offenders etc attend the coarse to dodge tickets / community service etc. It will be informative for you.

THe leading killers / Causes of death of australian's on a yearly basis is by far tobaco related with 49% of the pie chart. The second is alcohol related with 38%. If you take into account ALL forms of death recorded in australia. For the 3rd it is motor vehicle related incidents. This is not something to ignore, this is why there is so much in anti smoking campaigns and road campaigns. Alcohol's related is mostly from being run over which leads into vehicle accident though it's usually the fact the drunk is not driving hence why it's not clasified as a vehicular.

Our govt is actively trying to get you to not smoke, not do stupid things while drinking, infact the new laws that have come in to prevent you doing stupid shit on the drink and they have always been cracking down on P platers, because they are the motorist with big red P signs on them saying, HEY I am in the most statistically likely age group to have an accident. The 18-25 age group is almost 50% of all accidents per year when compared with the entire age range in the community of drivers. 18-2(4/5) are 50% of all accidents when compared with ALL the age ranges in the remaining 25 - 75+ ranges. This sort of information fuels strategic desicisions and tactical implementations.

Statistics are not relevant to the individual so don't give me arguements about it really and I will concede now my information could be a year or 2 out of date. If that negates it for you. Wonderful.

How can a cyclist kill a Pedisterian and get a $200 fine, a car would be prision!

I do not believe the road rules are FAIR at all to all classes of vehicles, and that speed cameras and radars etc.. are all forms of revenue raising. Why aren't these on places on roads where the most accidents occur?

Why do we allow Trucks in every god damn lane on a freeway or highway over 80?

Why are putting in Bus lanes for buses to leap traffic and slow everything else up again?

Why do we vote for such spineless, spinnsters who give us toll ways instead of freeways?

Why do we vote for people who screw up water and state infrastructure?

Maybe because we accept it and don't give a $H1T! or there is nothing else?

Your alternatives arent better options at the moment. It's mostly whats worse? Everyone knows that liberals don't build, they are the hack an slash liquidator types. Poor choices amongst a sea of bad options.

    • Hey Dave, welcome aboard! Good to see another soon-to-be Stagea owner here. The wagons are awesome — plenty of space, still got that Skyline DNA, and loads of potential if you’re into mods. Definitely post up pics when you get it, everyone here loves seeing new builds. What model/year are you looking at?
    • See if you can thermal epoxy a heatsink or two onto it?
    • The other problem was one of those "oh shit we are going to die moments". Basically the high spec Q50s have a full electric steering rack, and the povo ones had a regular hydraulic rack with an electric pump.  So couple of laps into session 5 as I came into turn 2 (big run off now, happily), the dash turned into a christmas tree and the steering became super heavy and I went well off. I assumed it was a tyre failure so limped to the pits, but everything was OK. But....the master warning light was still on so I checked the DTCs and saw – C13E6 “Heat Protection”. Yes, that bloody steering rack computer sitting where the oil cooler should be has its own sensors and error logic, and decided I was using the steering wheel too much. I really appreciated the helpful information in the manual (my bold) POSSIBLE CAUSE • Continuing the overloading steering (Sports driving in the circuit etc,) “DATA MONITOR” >> “C/M TEMPERATURE”. The rise of steering force motor internal temperature caused the protection function to operate. This is not a system malfunction. INSPECTION END So, basically the electric motor in the steering rack got to 150c, and it decided to shut down without warning for my safety. Didn't feel safe. Short term I'll see if I can duct some air to that motor (the engine bay is sealed pretty tight). Long term, depending on how often this happens, I'll look into swapping the povo spec electric/hydraulic rack in. While the rack should be fine the power supply to the pump will be a pain and might be best to deal with it when I add a PDM.
    • And finally, 2 problems I really need to sort.  Firstly as Matt said the auto trans is not happy as it gets hot - I couldn't log the temps but the gauge showed 90o. On the first day I took it out back in Feb, because the coolant was getting hot I never got to any auto trans issues; but on this day by late session 3 and then really clearly in 4 and 5 as it got hotter it just would not shift up. You can hear the issue really clearly at 12:55 and 16:20 on the vid. So the good news is, literally this week Ecutek finally released tuning for the jatco 7 speed. I'll have a chat to Racebox and see what they can do electrically to keep it cooler and to get the gears, if anything. That will likely take some R&D and can only really happen on track as it never gets even warm with road use. I've also picked up some eye wateringly expensive Redline D6 ATF to try, it had the highest viscosity I could find at 100o so we will see if that helps (just waiting for some oil pan gaskets so I can change it properly). If neither of those work I need to remove the coolant/trans interwarmer and the radiator cooler and go to an external cooler....somewhere.....(goodbye washer reservoir?), and if that fails give up on this mad idea and wait for Nissan to release the manual 400R
    • So, what else.... Power. I don't know what it is making because I haven't done a post tune dyno run yet; I will when I get a chance. It was 240rwkw dead stock. Conclusion from the day....it does not need a single kw more until I sort some other stuff. It comes on so hard that I could hear the twin N1 turbos on the R32 crying, and I just can't use what it has around a tight track with the current setup. Brakes. They are perfect. Hit them hard all day and they never felt like having an issue; you can see in the video we were making ground on much lighter cars on better tyres under brakes. They are standard (red sport) calipers, standard size discs in DBA5000 2 piece, Winmax pads and Motul RBF600 fluid, all from Matty at Racebrakes Sydney. Keeping in mind the car is more powerful than my R32 and weighs 1780, he clearly knows his shit. Suspension. This is one of the first areas I need to change. It has electronically controlled dampers from factory, but everything is just way too soft for track work even on the hardest setting (it is nice when hustling on country roads though). In particular it rolls into oversteer mid corner and pitches too much under hard braking so it becomes unstable eg in the turn 1 kink I need to brake early, turn through the kink then brake again so I don't pirouette like an AE86. I need to get some decent shocks with matched springs and sway bars ASAP, even if it is just a v1 setup until I work out a proper race/rally setup later. Tyres. I am running Yoko A052 in 235/45/18 all round, because that was what I could get in approximately the right height on wheels I had in the shed (Rays/Nismo 18x8 off the old Leaf actually!). As track tyres they are pretty poor; I note GTSBoy recently posted a porker comparo video including them where they were about the same as AD09.....that is nothing like a top line track tyre. I'll start getting that sorted but realistically I should get proper sized wheels first (likely 9.5 +38 front and 11 +55 at the rear, so a custom order, and I can't rotate them like the R32), then work out what the best tyre option is. BTW on that, Targa Tas had gone to road tyres instead of semi slicks now so that is a whole other world of choices to sort. Diff. This is the other thing that urgently needs to be addressed. It left massive 1s out of the fish hook all day, even when I was trying not too (you can also hear it reving on the video, and see the RPM rising too fast compared to speed in the data). It has an open diff that Infiniti optimistically called a B-LSD for "Brake Limited Slip Diff". It does good straight line standing start 11s but it is woeful on the track. Nismo seem to make a 2 way for it.
