how big is your exhaust marko?

its the veilside evolution system - its 95mm i think (i.e. either 3.75" or 4" from the dump pipes to the rear)

the dump pipes are large as well.

You'd want 4 inch minimum? or twin 3's haha hey Paul...

my brother has the apexi n1 systm on his trophy (last registered in 04) which runs 2 x 3" pipes, sounds very g-rough :)

What about in the mufflers (well the rear one). My Kakimoto had a 2.5 inch restrictor in it. What a POS! Silly jap systems!

curiosity got the better of me so i looked under the car with my vernier set...from the dump pipes it runs 2 x 2.5" front pipes (60mm) then the front pipes run into a 3.5" (90mm) collector which is about 400mm in length, the exhaust then runs straight thru @ 3.5" (90mm) via 2 middle mufflers which retain the same internal diameter. the rear muffler i looked thru with a torch & also measures 3.5" internal diameter.

this engine is running tomei poncams 260degrees @ 9.15mm.

this morning i took the car out & wanted to see exactly when i have full boost - are u guys ready for this??? 0.8bar @ 5,500rpm with gtrs's. its only on 0.8 bar until i get it retuned. huuuge difference from my rb26/30 which made full boost in half the revs.

i modified this gtr almost 10 yrs age hence i couldnt remember the exact spec of the exhaust, tell you what though, i am very happy to have it back home.

LOL! You know where they need to go? In the dumpster along with 2540's. But im sure there is a big pile of those in there already!

what is your rev limit set to?

if i look at my current power band, it is 3000rpm (i.e. 5500 - 8500)

when i think back to my rb26/30 i'd always shift at about 6500rpm which would still give me a 3000rpm powerband...although the rev limit was set to 9krpm, i always felt like i was killing it going past 7krpm as the engine was nowhere near as 'rev happy' as the 2.6ltr (i guess its changing mindset as well)

Just pulled out my latest graph. I hit 0.8 bar at 3400 RPM which is about 75 RPM after the dyno graph starts. RS's was 4600 RPM which was 1400 RPM after the run starts.

i remember doing this exercise with my 3ltr with -10's & i was getting 1 bar @ 3000rpm in 3rd gear on the street, i posted it somewhere on gtr.uk website

although, comparing a 3ltr with -10s to a 2.8ltr with -5s isn't really fair due to increased capacity

was set at 8600 but I never revved it past 8000. Even at Winton I was changing at 6500 - 7000. I didn't need the revs. With the RS's It needed every last RPM it could get so it wasn't so lethargic when pulling the next gear... not that it helped! From 4500 RPM I have 275 kw. Now if I changed at 8000 it will land somewhere between 5500 - 6000 RPM, thats 390-410KW after gear change, back up to 425 at 7100 and 418 at 8000.

So roughly 1800rpm later to 0.8 bar than a T04Z... and people compare them ha!

yes - what size rear housing on the t04z are u comparing it to as there are a few combinations?

my mate used to run a single hks gtrs on his r33 gtst & that had amazing bottom end power

0.84

It just goes to show that capacity can hide dog turbos flaws but they are still dogs...

HKS 2540 is a classic example, actually not too bad on a RB25 but on a RB20 probably the worst turbo ever!

Has that graph been replicated by anyone else or just a one-off? What capacity?

Always a bit sceptical when theres no corrections on a dyno dynamics graph for all we know that graph could be stock turbos with 200 degrees of intake compensation.. Before xmas my car made 492rwkw on e85 and 26psi on a pretty hot day with 28degrees AirTemp 49 degrees InletTemp compensation worked in the figure i thought nice not much to go till 500 now. After having a few problems we stopped tuning for the day, 2 days later went to another dyno, tune unchanged made 460rwkw i was like

Anyway dynos tell porkies we need more mph on the 1/4 in this thread..

    • There's restrictor pills in the stock boost control hoses. That's how they set the amount that was bled off and hence the "high" boost setting. The usual mod in the day was to remove it and send the "high" boost setting up to about 14 psi.
    • Thanks Duncan, that's the best info I've read. Furthermore after learning about the PCM programming side controlling the factory boost solenoid, the purpose of the solenoid is to "bleed" boost when pin 25 is earthed, thus allowing spring pressure in the wastegate actuator to overcome diaphragm boost pressure, thus closing or reducing the position of the wastegate flap creating more boost as the turbo is able to spin faster. It's pretty cool to see a designated Pill to do exactly this, would have liked to have seen it with a tiny filter over the end for those moments in vacuum.  The constant bleed pill has now been removed completely from the system and solenoid boost control has been restored once again.   Case closed 😂
    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
    • Manual boost controllers (where a little of the boost was bled off) were quite common back in the day, because they were cheap and easy. Generally they had a manual adjustment screw rather than being fixed like yours. Down side is they always bleed boost, not just when you want them to so an electronic boost controller that uses a solenoid will have less lag.
    • Hello , im new here and i have A31 home build  RB25det neo stock eng / turbo  aem ems 2 blue connector  aem 3.5 map aem cas disk aem wideband connected to ecu  355 lph pump 550 nismo yellow injectors side feed aftermarket regulator  and won’t start with base aem tuner basic tune eventually flipped cas 180 degree so it triggers on correct stroke not in exhaust cycle  Now it won’t start Wideband reads 10 and 11 at lowest fuel setting  and will share calibrations soon for aem tuner i think something is wrong in aem tuner    please if you have any information, am very grateful
