Not relieved mate

So what lift/duration would be optimum for my setup, for midrange and top end reving to 8500 max

Standard poncams? Or jun 272 8.8 lift? Etc so many options but I still don't know much about lift/duration and what's better, bigger lift and smaller duration or smaller lift and bigger duration?

Ok thanks il pm him

What would be ur opinion on cam choice based on ur experiences?

If you want throttle response (which is something you CAN'T see on a dyno) no bigger than 260. My 260's spun to 8000 on 25 psi without dropping off, on higher boost ( turbos were out of puff) peak grunt was 6500 but only lost 15 kw by 8000 rpm).

We are going to try a smaller duration and higher lift cam soon.

... Awaits micks post :D

thanks for txt Paulie, I went from 260 type B to 250 type R poncams, same peak power just everything happened 800-1000 rpm earlier on a stock 2.6 with -7s

Paul, your cams are what I would think are near perfect in lift v duration, and XKLABA only has two As

What would you recommend for my setup?

According to piggaz seems bigger lift is better then bigger duration? Something along the lines of 256/260 with a 9.6 lift etc?

9.6 mm won't fit in your head though.

depends on funds and how far you want to go, I like Pauls cams but that is a fair chunk of cash

the type Rs would be a good start and relatively cheap, 9.3mm lift is about as far as the stock springs will stand and IIRC about 9.5mm for head clearance on older heads with stock 32mm base circle which is why most high lift cams now have a 30mm base circle allowing 11.5mm lift just have to reshim ( which is a good idea with any cam change )

Sponge bob 2's are coming Mick ;)

I can't wait, hopefully I'll get the first set

will go new springs when the time comes and definetly clearance check/new shims too, so smaller base circle would be a problem..

thanks

the smaller base circle fixes the clearance problem, by reducing the base circle by 2mm and shimming the bucket up 2mm means the point of the cam can be the same diameter from center of cam as stock but pushes the bucket down the extra 2mm to end up at the same height as stock but having the shim 2mm thinker means the valve is 2mm further down, hope this makes sense, i'm all sorts of cut ATM

Some of yous have already seen my result. It is still reasonable to keep this thread updated with latest reslults obtained from a Rb25det. Plus I think this is also the most responsive 407rwkws any 2.5L Rb25det ever got on stock cams and factory cam gears. Details:

93 model R33 GTST Forged CP pistons, valve springs and stock every thing else.

800cc injectors

600x300x75mm Front mounted cool

Brae high mount exhaust manifold

HPVA 50mm external gate plumbed back.

Xforce 3inch Cat back exhaust

100 Cell Cat

Profect B electric boost controller

4inch intake pipe

Adaptronic Plugin

Power so far is 407rwkws @ 24psi E85 Fuel

HyperGear ATR43SS3 CBB VNT Turbocharger.

Turbocharger reached peek power of 407rwkws on 24psi of boost

This turbocharger had big turbo's top end while retains small turbocharger's down low. I've overlaid my result against result from a high flowed stock R33 21U turbocharger.

There are bit more in it. When it maxes out the upper rev power and torque merges together per additional psi of boost. This one is still increasing both power and torque evenly per additional boost added. We didn't bother squeezing maximum power out of it as the project goal was 400rwkws and this car needs cams.

    • Yes, I know🙄 but the sequential is not in my budget... don't want to reduce power neither, so looks like I'm stuck in the rabbit hole🤣
    • You’ll be very upset when you bust that too not to mention the gearing totally sucks. Don’t do it.
    • Is the panel filter one that is oiled? Have you ever cleaned or touched the AFM?
    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
    • It is the stock air box with the panel filter. Everything else is stock except the exhaust at this point, as I also went back to the cleaned 270cc injectors. I will check the RPM when the IACV is unplugged and report back.
