Hey guys.

As you can probably tell from the title... i am having profec problems. :)

I bought it second hand and installed it the other day. it has power and is reading boost perfectly fine. BUT it won't boost over the stock 10 psi (r33 turbo with rb20 actuator on rb20).

I'm pretty sure that it's all installed correctly, checked everything 3 times. Took it for some test runs with a multimeter on the solenoid terminal at the back of the ebc unit. No matter what i did i couldn't get it to read any kind of voltage or current.

When should the ebc be sending voltage to the solenoid and how much?

Any help or suggestions would be great guys.

The solenoid could be faulty, supplying it directly with 12v the stepper motor should click like crazy if it's working (I think its the proper way to test the stepper motor, i can't remember)

by any chance have u plug up 1 of the holes on the solinoid? theres 3 holes, 1 to actuator, the other to intercooler, and the 3rd 1 which is external gate, if u have blocked up 1 of the holes, that will stop you from boosting over 10psi, your ment to leave it open,

The com port is running to the Wastegate. The No port is running to the IC piping. And the Nc port is venting to air, i.e unblocked

Im pretty sure in the instructions your ment to block the hole if you dont have an external gate. Thats how i have done mine and it's run 16psi before.

Can anyone confirm this? i didn't see it mention in the instructions.

Ok i cant find anything in the book to say block this off. But as i said mine is blocked and it works fine. If your using an actuator, then the COM goes to the actuator and the NO goes to a pressure source. If you have a external wastegate then the COM goes to the wastegate and the NC goes to a pressure source. I found at one point that if any of the settings are wrong on the controller you can have huge problems getting the boost up there.

Thanks for replying for me phil. In the instructions it says to take the plugs out and doesn't mention plugging it back up. Also in the trouble shooting section it says a possible cause of boost not increasing/continuing to increase is due to the plug not being removed.

When setting up the controller we have varied the SET % and gain % but boost has not changed from stock at all....

As lance suggested i tested the solenoid from the battery and it made clicking sounds so the problem isn't the solenoid.

Wat is your limiter set to? you are definitely not meant to block the remaining port on the solenoid, this is where the excess pressure bled from the actuator is meant to vent through, blocking this will impede how it holds boost.

If the limiter is set to something low it will continually cut the boost pressure everytime it exceeds whatever you have programmed into it.

100% DO NOT BLOCK THE OTHER HOLE.

Set the gains to its lowest of 5%.

Set the start boost to 0.

Set the Limiter to a couple of psi above what the max is you want to run.

Set the limiter boost percentage to whatever you want, i have it set to like 30%.

Now adjust the boost pressure by 10% and see what it does, if it increases you know it is working. Keep increasing it to the max pressure you want to run.

Once that is done start playing with the gains and start boost settings.

    • Version 1 aluminium airbox is.......not acceptable No pics as I "didn't like the look.....alot" Even after all my "CAD", and measurements, the leg near the fusebox just didn't sit right as it ended up about 10mm long and made the angle of the dangle look wrong, the height was a little short as well, meh, I wasn't that confident that Version 1 was going to be an instant winner I might give Version 2 another go, there's plenty of aluminium at work, but, after having in on and off a few times, and laying in the old OEM airbox without the new pod filter and MAF, there may be an option to modify the OEM air box and still use the Autoexe front cover and filter.... maybe This >  Needs to fit in here, but using the panel, and not the pod, the MAF will need to fit in the airbox though> I'm thinking as the old OEM box and Autoexe cover that is sitting in the shed is just sitting around doing nothing, and they are relatively abundant and cheap to replace if I mess it up and need another, it may well fit with some modifications to how the Autoexe brackets mounts to the rad support, and some dremiling to move it get in there, should give me some more room for activities, as I don't want to move the MAF and affect the tune Sealing the hole it requires to stick it in the air box is simple, a tight fit and some pinch weld will seal it up tight  I am calling this a later problem though
    • and it ends up being already priced in as though you're just on 91RON without any ethanol. Car will lose a bit of economy as the short and long term fuel trims bring down the AFR back to stoich or whatever it is for cruise/idle for the engine.  
    • Oh, you are right. But, in Australia E10 is based on 91RON fuel and ends up being 94RON. Hence it being the cheaper option for economy cars. The more performance oriented cars go for the 98RON fuel that has no ethanol mixed in. The only step up we have left then at some petrol stations is E85.
    • There is a warning that "this thread is super old" but they ignore that anyway...
    • With 10% Ethanol, we're talking 2-3% fuel consumption difference. The emissions reductions and octane boost in my opinion far outweigh this almost non existent loss.    My tanks sitting at 80%. Luckily that should go down fast as I'm on vacation again for the next two weeks.
