I only ever used to buy the ZOOM mag for the tech articles in them.

Remembering back to the days of Tim @ RPM testing their R33 GTST's fuel pressure bleeder (of which mine was a test car for early in the piece) as well as pressure drop across the std IC core.

Then the old R31 rb20det 220rwkw build up at Tilbrooks.

Back in the day... They were educational build ups.

X2 for the tech articles. thats why i started, i buy it now more out of habbit.

brains' R31 was nuts, one of my fav articles back in the day. i like how they used to really think and do things in different ways, rather than just a product review/bolt on job as most of it seems to be now.

I want all-types of cars involved - we love cars because they are interesting or individual or plan damn good.

You could put a Clio 182 in there (they must be so cheap now! great track car/daily) or old cortina done up, hot rods, drag cars, local performance, imports, doing up BMW, Mercedes, Audi, VW - as there are going to be shedloads of used BMW, Mercedes, Audi, vw falling into REAL enthusiast hands over the next 5 years.

BMW 335i performance mods anyone? Or what about E36, E46 M3 and 330i.

350z - plenty of discussions to be had on bolt-ons up to the supercharger & turbocharger kits.

370z too, V36 skylines.

Not to mention the continuing Skylines, Supras, WRX, Evo, RX7, RX8, Mazda 3, Mazda 6 MPS - Especially the Evo X.

All-in-all I think it should be real world and technical. You can add over technical content to break-outs and sidebars. Just give it the technical point of difference and don't limit it to the bogan "I only drive X-brand of car crowd" cause we know they only have money for cigarettes or car mags - you can guess which one they choose.

X3 for the tech articles and Brains RB20 was one of the best series of articles. got me interested in the HKS2530 and remaps!

bump - who wants a free copy of BOOST edition 1?

apparently a collectors edition.

LMAO - everything I hoped it didn't have, it did.

it's like they sensed it and actually had a section for a collection of 9 second VL's

actually, I don't think it had one car that actually turns corners.

I'll admit the GOGGO mobile was out of left field.

GTST - As much of a drag racing guy as I am, I reckon you're gonna like issue 4 when it comes out. Plenty of corners stuff in the mag :)

Issues one, two and three were all before me joining the operation. Issue three has some awesome stuff in it and a tough circuit EVO too but I reckon 4 will be right up your alley.

The Goggo mobile is a weapon. I love that thing!

Re: the tech side of things; this is the main reason I'd enjoyed Zoom for so many years and it was one of my first priorities when joining. Hope you like what we come up with. Real world and technical with a great mix of cars and an emphasis on DIY/Budget/achievable machines is where it's at.

You should've left those three other issues under the Zoom banner. How many people saw this "new" magazine and bought it only to be severely dissapointed? Of those people, what percentage is going to read this post and know it was still a "Zoom" magazine?

You lost a major oppurtinity there.

Can we please just see the babes. Seriously, just the babes. You know, the ones with a couple of brickies trowels worth of makeup and flatter than a surf board. Oh, and tatts, gotta' have tatts. You know you want it. You all go on about the cars and you can't face the truth, you only buy Skylines to pull the chicks. There, I said it. Can't take it can ya' ?

Next time we see Adrian he'll be leaning up against the Boost office wall looking at the traffic over his Gucci sunglasses and complete black matching ensemble hand picked from the Armani catalogue. His car will be the next project car with 22" rims and multi-coloured wetsuit material for the interior. What a pimp. He won't see this of course, he's too busy getting his front teeth gold capped.

Can someone do a test on blow off vales. Which is truely the loudest? Which has more flutter ?, the chicks dig it.

Seriously ? We should all be lucky to have an enthusiast behind the lines so to speak. Hopefully Adrian you will bring back the honesty the mag started off with and hang out with club cars, sports sedans, rally cars time attack and yes, even drag cars. What we don't need is to see another $150,000 GTR with 19's. How about building a oil/air separator that actually does it's job and can be done in the garage or at least the parts made and somebody can weld it up. Do spark amplifiers really give you better fuel consumption and power ? What's better, new bushes or new shocks and springs ? I still cherish the first real turbo change story on a R33 with a 2540 Garrett and it made 210rwkws but no engine management.

Having been in a similar position like yours though, I somehow doubt you may have the time to chase up the fiddley stuff. I wish you well, do your best and we'll keep buying the mag.

By the way, I have every copy in mint condition of every Zoom and HPI. One day when I'm 170 years old they'll be worth at least a dollar each.

Regards,

Gary.

    • Maybe it's time for a M3 F80 LCI, and leave it stock.  Drive it to a shop, sip on your latte with nutmeg whilst it gets serviced and on the way home swing by and grab some chai mix for the evening.
    • Great work! Thanks for documenting the process.
    • How would you even adjust the clutch if the pedal already has the correct free play? The operating cylinder has no adjustment in mounting position or rod length. On pull style clutches there is also no ability to adjust the bearing carrier. Push type I can see how adjusting the carrier height makes it all work.   If this is the twin plate clutch did you verify that your friction disks were oriented correctly? It's not mentioned in the directions at all you just have to notice that one side the friction disks have a part number on the hub fingers and a subtle coning to those fingers. Another thing that I noticed was if you put the friction disks in backwards the pressure plate fingers will not be even and flat when the clutch is installed.
    • yeah, mechanically, it is probably do-able, off the top of my head, there would be the transfer case, which I believe will bolt up to the rear of the RWD transmission, the shorter rear tail shaft. A front drive shaft, front diff, engine upper sump, front drive shafts, front hubs and front AWD struts (they are shaped around the front drive shafts), LCAs (at the very least from the front suspension) oil cooler.  You might want the rear diff from an AWD too, so you can be certain the front and rear diff rations are identical.  Who knows what brackets and mounts you might need.  So a whole doner car might be the best option if you need to maintain RHD. Then actually making it work, that would be a whole different story.
