hey guys, i got the skyline back and she's running fantastic, just need to get a tailshaft made up and i can drive it =) Has anyone had to do the custom tailshaft thing in adelaide before and can recomend someone?

Ran into one other problem today, the gearbox mount for the old automatic is obviously not going to fit, but i have a 5 speed mount of an early model '83 MR30, and have learned today that the chasis on the early and late models are a bit different, the gearbox x-member holes which mount to the chasis on the the early models are about 4" shorter accoss than that of the late model like mine which measure roughly 1foot 4". I can fit the early model mount inbetween the walls of the tunnel! If anyone has a late model 5speed gbox x-member they would like to sell, ill buy it :D

i used the auto tailshaft and apparently that works fine. where did you get the wiring done in the end?

I put the auto tailshaft up there for measuring and its about an inch too short (the yoke will go in, but not far enough), the yoke is a different size also, did you put the rb20 yoke on the auto tailshaft?

I got Brenton at 4s 'n more to wire it up in the end, cost about $600, did a really tidy job too :D

Send me some dimensions of what you need.

Bolt holes centre to centre etc.

I have both here I think, but have to be sure.

Let me know and I prob have what you need. :ghost:

Ah cool, cheers mate,

the early model gbox x-member bolt holes to the chasis are 295mm apart (centre to centre) and the late model should be 415mm. I need the late model 5spd type :D

cheers again

I'll look for you in the morning, like before NOON, and will get back to you.

All mine are 5 speed, " Is there really anything else" LOL.

Why don't you put in the complete pedal box???

And have you organised a gearbox mount xmember from a late model as well?

Still looking for a x-member tho :)

i dont have a complete pedal box tho, and just found out the datsun shaft is too short for my box, so i have to get an R30 5spd shaft tomorrow. its really easy to swap shafts so i though id do it that way :D

Guess what?

I got one up here, probably 2 spares maybe, if you need one.

X member is no go, it's an early model.

Do you want me to source you one, a wrecker here has a couple.

For the price of postage i can get the shaft here, but i may need the x-member, ill keep you updated as to how i go finding one tomorrow :)

thanks mate ;)

If you could find out a price on the x-member tho, that would be great! :D

got dump pipe done today and cat removed. so 3" turbo back an big muffler :D

got pulley sorted, at least temporarily too, and all new belts and tensioners coz they were all bent n mangled. much smoother and goes harder now. gota redyno just for curiosities sake in a few weeks wen i get money again :) haha

I was wondering... i got a supra intercooler,a Type 2 turbosmart BOV and a boost controller for my HR30. When i get all of this hooked up and running about 1 bar what kind of extra power do you think i should expect to gain. I really want to get it done but i can't afford it right now and i really want to know roughly what kind of power increase i should be expecting. Just a stab in the dark.

Cheers

need help looking for a part, next time someones at a parts place or may even have what i'm looking for, i need a indocator stalk, i;'ve called all over the coast and no luck, i need one for ither a hr30 or mr30 82" model, i'll not be looking around for one for 2 weeks as the final last things are to be done to finish rego, so if any one can help with this let me know and i'll pay for part and postage!!! Matt,

Can't just get indicator stalk.

Comes as complete assembly that slides over the end of the steering column, that I know of. The clamp just holds it to the column.

Does yours have variable speed intermittent wipers on the other side to the indicator stalk (left side), or non adjustable, flat stalk?

yeah, thats the one i'm looking for, variable speed wipers, so far all i find is the flat stalk one!

I got the car to drive up and down the driveway with the auto gbox x-member :/

but that is just supporting the geabox from falling out. Turns out the later model auto MR30 had a different floorpan, i found one at a wrecker, and its the same as the early 5spd models :(

Has anyone done an auto -> 5spd conversion on an R30?? if so, what x-member has been used on the gbox? i cant work out how i can mount this gearbox... cheers guys :(

No not here, but all I would suggest is make your own.

JMS fabricated one for S13/14/15 & R32/33/34's to stop gearstick rattle when launching hard. see pic.

It can't be that difficult.

Dennis :ghost:

yeh im looking at doing that but i can't weld so i will have to take it somewhere to get done... no idea where to go, any ideas?

the only problem is the x-member is about 10cm furthur back towards the rear of the car, and the gbox moount is forward....

I'm going to have the same problem, as my R33 gearbox mount is about 150mm further back than standard.

I am making a "C" type mount that carries the original g/box mount on a box section piece of RHS having about 4 mm plates going back to the original mount points braced with a web section fillet.

Just have to get under it and design it, put it on paper and get someone, any welding/pressure vessel shop to make it for you. About any Sheet Metal/Engineering Shop will be able to point you in the right direction if they can't do it themselves.

    • You can use your VIN to look up the factory part number somewhere like amayama, and then look to order new if necessary. https://www.amayama.com/en/genuine-catalogs/nissan Depending on price you might want to rebuild instead. @GTSBoy I had an interesting insight into US market parts when the Titan rear calipers were sticking. New calipers were dirt cheap, about 20% more than a rebuild kit....they are just considered throw away maintenance items

    • Lots of votes for driving onto a plank first; that is the quickest way I've found, 25mm is enough for my case but that will vary by car It also depends where you are going for. On the 32 I can get to the rear diff with my floor jack if I do that end first, and get it up on stands. Then I lift the front from either front tow hook as high as needed, also onto stands. Sometimes I need a small lift on the other tow hook to get it level enough If I do the front first I can't get to the rear diff because of the angle of the car Other options are getting to the front mount of the rear subframe from in front of the wheel (if only lifting one side, or just do both which is a bit of a pain compared to one lift from the diff), or also the gearbox cross member mount on the driver's side if you are  just trying to lift the driver's side. I This is the jack I use; it says 75mm clearance but of course that is only on the lower section so if you have to reach too far in like the diff you still get stuck. https://www.snapon-bluepoint.com.sg/category/Floor-Jacks/product/Floor-Jack,-2-Ton-Low-Profile

    • Ok so i will NEED to have this sensor anyway even with Nistune (or standalone ECU) https://justjap.com/products/genuine-nissan-boost-pressure-sensor-evap-control-system-fits-nissan-r34-skyline-c34-nm35-stagea-pnt30-x-trail-rb25det-vq25det-sr20vet?currency=AUD&srsltid=AfmBOoqfxX48bW9bEwH62orcNhtBfp7ekAL0C9Ca89ySFGUiBzXfXeze Is this the correct one? And this is only thing i need? No other "things" connected to the sensor or something? I do have the wiring.
