The communities of Upwey, Tecoma, Belgrave Heights, Belgrave South, Lysterfield and Narre Warren East need to be aware that fire activity has increased and has the potential to impact directly.

Core Advice

* Residents in this area may experience smoke and burning embers reaching their properties, and are advised to patrol their houses to find and put out any burning embers that may be landing.

* Protect yourself from radiant heat by wearing correct protective clothing consisting of long-sleeved shirts, long pants, sturdy boots and a broad brimmed hat. On no account should synthetic material be worn.

* As the fire front approaches, it will be unsafe to be either on foot or in a car as the heat radiating from the fire will be intense. Buildings will offer the best protection during the passage of a fire front. Close all doors and windows and stay inside the house while the fire passes. Remain alert, extinguish any small fires and if necessary, move outside to burnt ground once the fire has passed.

* If you are caught on the road, don't get out and run.

* o Pull to the side, preferably in an area clear of tall trees and long grass.

* o Put your hazard lights on and close the windows and vents.

* o Cover any exposed areas of skin with a woollen blanket and get down as low as possible.

* o Only when the fire has passed do you get out and move to safety.

* Drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration.

* Residents away from home should not try to return to the area as access is limited and the roads may not be safe.

* Continue to listen to ABC or local radio for updates on this fire.

Additional Information

Tourists are advised to stay away from the following areas: Birds Land Reserve, Lysterfield Park and communities listed above

Good call Michael.... :):D

Elvis just flew right over my house in camberwell!!! Never seen one that close before in this area

yeah i live just near camberwell. it only seemed 100 meters off the ground. just above the tree tops.

I saw it when it started from my work in the city. Saw a huge cloud o smoke out my office window (on the 40th floor) and checked the cfa website which hadn't been updated at that time. It looked like a mushroom like, like a bomb had been dropped. Called my mum who lives in Rowville and let her know as well as SMS'd several friends in the area. Driving back home from a mates house in Rowville to my place in Boronia, I went up Napolean rd at about 10:30pm and the police were still blocking roads.

    • Yeah, Duncan is helping sell me back to Android devices. I've hated the whole Android head units due to their speed issues. Even in my old Hyundai Kona (2022 model), it behind the scenes was Android, and slow and shitty to start up. Once running wasn't bad, but still a good 15 to 30 seconds.
    • My roof rails are off atm on the E39 until the rust is fixed. I did find another little bit of surface rust under the rails when I took them off. As @soviet_merlin said I'd just leave them alone unless you're planning on ensuring they're properly sealed. I was on the fence about leaving them off as the delete is still a thing in BMW E39's but I feel like the car is missing something (er, it is, der) with them off and I'm looking forward to putting them back on.
    • Man, I miss having a phone that fits into my hand!
    • The speed this thing starts up is making me want to replace my old one. Though my old one immediately kicks into reverse camera as soon as reverse is engaged, it's clearly not part of the android system. For everything else though, starting up, connecting to hotspot, opening maps, starting music in spotify is easily a ~2 minute affair.
    • Yeah well per the video it took 15s for the stock unit to start up....even if I give it a few seconds discount for starting that is at least 12 sec before you get a reverse camera if you are trying to leave a park.  The android unit is way faster, but 2016 for the stock unit is a long time ago in consumer electronics
