It sounds ridiculous, especially since my friends brother just got a multi million dollar contract to produce ethanol fuel in Australia.

And now it's banned? lol

E85 is the future!!

Or, the present in South America lol

i just rang united hoppers crossing and they were about as helpful as a bag of sand.... as usual

BUT

they are still selling it there and have had no word form head office on the matter

What new diff did you get Hamish?

nismo gt lsd pro TT 1.5 way - love it

What sort of economy losses do you face running E85?

none, you use 30% more, but its 30% cheaer

is E85 here to stay?

i'll be getting my car tuned in the next mth or so & i wouldn't mind trying this out after reading these results - i personally dont care about fuel economy & i think u should be driving a smart car if the extra money is a problem :(

national there are only 2 servo's? rozelle is around the corner from where i live which is great!

hey guys,

I am in Wollongong 1 hour south of sydney. we have had E85 at the pump at the ethanol station locally for a while now and to find out it is no longer available only 2 weeks ago. spewing as I am pretty keen to give this a run. I called them up and they said they can still get it for me in 200 litre drum at $2 a litre.

anybody else heard what is going on???

as far as i can make out united vic and nsw will still have it... i'll call head office after easter holi's are done and dusted...

i cant see it being banned after holden have spent $2347951767574967245967254986 on its development for the 2010 models.

imho, go get a few jerry's and get a tune, use it for the strip and pulp on the street.... still easily worth it @ $2/litre

  • 2 weeks later...

ok, i spoke to fuel standards aust today, and the dept of sustainable resources or some shit....

the dealio is...

e85 is legal to sell still, but there is only 1 model of bowser that is legal to use. these are the ones that united have.

it went on sale temporarily in other types of bowsers, but they have now been shut down as the companies producing them will not give assurance on the lines being capable of holding e85

united have 1 servo in melb, 1 in syd, and they are not giving up any info on whether they will be adding more

that gives me reassurance if the 2 united servos will continue to hold e85! sounds like a legitimate reason.

3 q's:

- how many united servos are there nationally?

- if other bowsers cannot hold e85 due to its fuel lines, i wonder why i.e. does it have corrosive agents?

- would this cause damage to a vehicle which is not designed to run e85?

maybe im reading into it too much, then again maybe im not

Edited by Marko R1

it has not been proven to corrode lines and fittings, its that the companies producing them are not willing to spend the R&D money to test them and prove their product when there is such little demand. they'd rather just keep making petrol/deisel/lpg units.

there are many many motors that have been pulled down after running e85 and i have not heard 1 case of corrosion

  • 2 weeks later...

and now to directly contradict myself....

i was on the phone to chris from centreline suspension yesterday and he was telling me how he killed his rotor on the dyno with e85

the car is an 800kg stripped out rx3 (by memory) making a naturally aspirated 330rwkw and is a full drag setup, im talking fuel cell, surge tank etc...

the problem occured when the e85 corroded the rubber fittings in the fuel system and the car leaned out @ 11ty billion revs

we talked about it for a while and worked out that the types of hoses he was using were NOT silicon based.... it seems not to be a problem in skyline fuel systems, but when you go aftermarket, just make sure you run silicon methanol rated equipment i spose....

Thanks for that useful information, I've had a few debates that if I ran some E85 my skyline fuel hoses won't magically disintegrate, but the Silicon based hoses in Skylines, are they factory standard?

the diff is awesome mate.... i ran it in for 40 mins then dumped the oil, its quiet as a mouse and locks up nicely! :D

yeah, rob and danny are a long way away huh! that's why my car's gonna be in your shop next week :(

update... after finding a tiny boost leak that had been in the car @ the last tune & fixing it (along with 2 exhaust leaks) trent re-tuned the car last night on PLUP and i picked up 15rwkw to take it to 283rwkw

gonna re-tune the e85 soon and hopefully sit round 325rwkw

:PBJ:

awesome results mate. i'm sold, going to get an adjustable FPR (because only got 480cc injectors) and will tune with E85 asap. So Trent got to play with your car? damn man, 283rwkw from a GT2835Pro S... that's so impressive. Graph? :)

what were your boost leaks mate? i think i've still got one from the FMIC area.

how'd you go about finding them? were you able to hear them at all?

didn't bother printing a graph this time.... i'll 100% get a graph when i go back, as i'm going to re-run on pulp, leave the car on the dyno, and then fill with e85 and do a run on the same boost setting.

so a 100% comparison

the leak was getting worse.... by last night it was the only thing you could hear on boost....

between 4 of us we couldn't find it tho, as it was only there on boost.... it was the stock rubber elbow that goes under the pod

had to throw the car on the dyno and load it up, then use a hose to listen for it.

the hole was definately there @ the last tune (100% inaudible) as on the first pull i hit 25psi by 4k (run pulled obviously)

i recon there's a little bit more in the pulp tune that i can get safely, will have a longer play when we get it on the dyno next

    • One year is a bit concerning. Did you try contacting GSP? It says 5 year warranty on the box if I remember correctly. I'm also running their driveshafts on my S2 Stagea.   You could check the part numbers on Amayama for your year. Here's the link for my 1998 which gives the 39100-23U60 part number. Well, that and 39100-23U70. https://www.amayama.com/en/genuine-catalogs/epc/nissan-japan/stagea/wgnc34/6649-rb25det/trans/391 What does it say for yours?
    • I ordered a GSP Front R/H Axle from here - https://justjap.com/products/gsp-premium-front-driveshaft-r-h-nissan-r32-r33-r34-skyline-gtr-stagea-4wd#description It lasted around a year before one of the boots blew out. I'm lowered, but I have GKTech roll center adjusters. One year seems a little premature. I think I'm going to spend the extra money on an OEM cv axle this time. This website - https://tfaspeed.com/collections/nissan-stagea-wgnc34-x-four-parts/products/nissan-stagea-awc34-260rs-rb26-right-front-axle-drive-assembly Makes it sound like the readily available OEM CV axle will only fit 11.1999 Stagea and up (mine is a 2.1997 S1). The JustJap listing didn't mention any years or anything for the GSP axle. Amayama shows '11.1999' and up as well for that part number. As well as 'plastic boot type'. See attached picture. So I guess my question is, does that axle (39100-23U60) really only fit S2 Stagea? It's the front driver side. If it does, I'd love to buy that instead of rolling the dice on another GSP. I've found that OEM one cheaper here: https://www.partsfornissans.com/oem-parts/nismo-jdm-r32-r33-r34-skyline-gtr-r32-gts4-right-front-axle-3910023u60 and here https://www.nissanparts.cc/oem-parts/nismo-shaft-ft-drive-3910023u60 Just a little confused because the JapSpeed listing for the GSP front driver axle doesn't mention any specific years or anything and it fit my S1 Stagea fine. So will 39100-23U60 fit my S1 Stagea even though technically it says '11.1999' and up? What would have changed? Thanks.
    • Thanks for the info. The only "Issue" I've had with the shifter is I always found the throw between 4th and 6th gear too close. I'm always worried to shift into 4th accidently and sending my motor to the moon. Adam LZ recently came out with a video and stated Serialnine revised their shifters to correct this and will change all the revised parts for 150$. Strangely enough, I contacted Serialnine right after and they denied it and said it's bullshit. I found that strange as he's a distributer. I'll keep this forum post updated on that saga.
    • Yep that is correct. It allows you to adjust the short throw range from what I can tell
    • Car has been running great, I've put about 300km's of break in time on it. First thing that stands out with properly sealing rings is no more noticeable crankcase smell coming out of my catch can. This may seem insignificant, but the constant smell while driving around was infuriating. It's also nice to see my oil level remain stable. Two new issues have developed that I only noticed this weekend though. There's a very noticeable driveline vibration past 100kmh. I only noticed it now as I've been babying it under 100kmh in the backroads. This comes as no surprise as I'm running a one-piece shaft, and I paid zero attention to my driveshaft angle when I put everything back in. I also have a fair bit of voltage drop on hot starts. The starter audibly is forcing. No issues on cold start though. I must not have removed all the paint under my main block ground during assembly. I'll try and take care of both those issues this week once the kids are asleep.  I also received all the parts I was missing for my direct port setup. I will hopefully have pictures of that up soon. I'm hoping to get back on the dyno the week of June 30th as I'll be on vacation. I'm confident I should be able to make north of 500rwkw on pump gas and WMI. I'll go back again later this summer with E98, but I want to confirm my ethanol content sensor is working properly first. I've never seen it read anything but 11%. This makes sense for our 10% ethanol content pump gas here, but I would expect the occasional movement between fill ups.
