I cant see why turbo timers would be illegal... There are plenty of turbo diesel 4wd's around with timers installed and alot of larger (medium rigid for example) trucks come out with them as an option from the factory.

I am keen to know (if they are illegal) what facts the legislation is based on.

I always thought that it was illegal to leave a car running and go more than "x" metres away.

I also thought that turbo timers had to be hooked up to the handbrake so if you pull it up the timer switches off.

Yeah, I had heard much the same - the timer itself isn't illegal, but walking away and leaving your car running certainly is. In Qld it's defined as 3 metres, not sure about ACT as we tend to just blindly follow whatever the RTA does.

And I have heard of insurance companies denying claims when the vehicle had one fitted, so it pays to make sure they know you have one.

Yeh, the handbrake rule is old and always been there, never heard of the leaving the vehicle ruel, but not say it doesnt exist. The shite thing is, it seems every time there is a rumor started, RTA seem to catch hoold of it and implement it. :P or so it seems. eg, I heard a while before coilovers became required to be engineered that they were required to be engineered. A few months later, they implemented it. lol (im sure it started when the discussions started).

Turbo timer was legal in 2002, at the time... I got defected for having a turbo timer by Dis###nt Tyres Fyshwick, during defect clearance inspection on my 180sx, and then I double checked with RTA that it was NOT illegal and they were just picking on me.

But then again, it may have changed since.

    • haha don't worry I'm sue you've got more fun ahead buying a 30 year old turbo car....but at least you are in the right place to ask
    • some days eh? The keyless entry and interior light on/off with the key will be controlled by the Body Control Module, but I'm not certain where that is or what it looks like (you might get lucky with a search to get a part#, which could be printed on it). I'd start at the A pillar/ Under dash/kick panel on the driver's side
    • It might be hit and miss, but Nissan Genuine Parts and Pitworks are not the same thing, although both are available from Nissan Dealers with Nissan Part Numbers. Nissan Genuine Parts are the OEM stuff, Pitworks are their attempt to get people back from generic parts makers
    • I did end up getting it sorted, as GTSBoy said, there was a corroded connection and wire that needed to be replaced. I ended up taking out the light assembly, giving everything a good clean and re-soldered the old joints, and it came out good.
    • Wow, thanks for your help guys 🙏. I really appreciate it. Thanks @Rezz, if i fail finding any new or used, full or partial set of original Stage carpets i will come back to you for sure 😉 Explenation is right there, i just missed it 🤦‍♂️. Thanks for pointing out. @soviet_merlin in the meantime, I received a reply from nengun, and i quote: "Thanks for your message and interest in Nengun. KG4900 is for the full set of floor mats, while KG4911 is only the Driver's Floor Mat. FR, RH means Front Right Hand Side. All the Full Set options are now discontinued. However, the Driver's Floor Mat options are still available according to the latest information available to us. We do not know what the differences would be, but if you only want the one mat, we can certainly see what we can find out for you". Interesting. It seems they still have some "new old stock" that Duncan mentioned 🤔. I wonder if they can provide any photos......And i also just realized that amayama have G4900 sets. I'm tempted too.
