g'day folks

i am in the process of doing a number of performance mods to my rb25 det neo... i have spoken to my preferred engine tuner (uni group engineering giraween) and searched on here for what a good bov is to suit my car... the blokes at uni group told me that in order for the afm to function correctly, a plumb back blow off valve is required (no problem here i prefer not to hear the ptschhh)... upon searching on here for a decent blow off valve, i have come to the conclusion that the general consensus is that the gtr blow off valves are awesome and upgrading to an aftermarket one is considered a downgrade... also after searching i have found that gtr bov's are rare as hens teeth and when they come up for sale they are gone within days...

i have my standard blow off valve off my motor (r34 RB25 neo turbo) lying around... just wondering how much boost they can handle before they start having problems???

i guess the r34 blow off valve will suffice until i get a gtr one???

thanks in advance

The most cost effective BOV is the Bosch one used by Porcshe, Audi, Saab and now Ford in the F6...$70-$90 new...They won't win you any prizes at Autosalon (who gives a shit) but if you are after an effective 'compressor bypass valve' good for 15-20 psi that doesn't cost hundreds they are awesome...

Btw Zoom did a review on a few BOVs years ago and these came up trumps....

Why would you spend $70-$90 on a single item when you can get a GTR one for around 50-60?

They do the same job, hold over 370rwkw/24psi in single form (i've proven this on my own car)

And they leak @ idle like the stock item so you dont have AFM issues.

The choice is simple for Skyline owners - GTR BOV.

The Bosch ones are also 'held open' at idle so there is no idle issues...They also have hose tails on the inlet and outlet so there is no rooting around with welding flanges etc...

Sure I can spend time and chasing a GTR bov...I believe the quote in the previous post was 'rare as hens teeth though'..If I find one (which I will eventually) it 'may' be rooted...so the process starts again...I have never bothered chasing one up so I could be wrong...This just comes from 20yrs exp playing with cars...

OR I can pick up the phone and call my local Saab dealer and buy something brand new off the shelf that 'will work and work well' for a decent period...3 years my current BOV has been in service...No problems at all...

Now I am not saying that the GTR bovs are not the way to go...What I AM saying is that the Bosch ones are a decent option and will alway be easy to get...Its what I use and I have had great success...

Just trying to give the guy options thats all...

And a GTR BOV is change over with the stock... point?

As for 'rare' - Ive had some for sale for 2 months or so, on and off. Sold 4 sets so far and they dont get taken the day i post, takes a few weeks.

And over the past 3 weeks ive seen 4 other sets go up also.

They are not rare by any means of the word. If someone thinks that, they aren't even looking

Ok so what you are saying is that the GTR bov is a 'bolt on' to the stock GTSt intake pipe work?? In that case it is a good option 'if' you are running the stock pipe work...

When I was running the stock intake pipe work I gutted the stock GTSt bov and used it as an adpator only. I then plumbed the Bosch bov in place of the rubber hose bend that joins to the black metal pipe that goes to the turbo intake pipe...This made a noticable difference because the Bosch BOV sealing mechanism is rubber on a hard plastic seat

as opposed to the stock aluminium to aluminiuim (complete with the Nissan 1mm breather hole designed to make the GTSt drive a bit more smoothly so it appealed to the over 45yos as well ) ..I am assuming the GTR BOV is rubber on aluminium seat for it to seal better than the GTSt one...?

    • This car has run before on this z32 ecu can get the part number for you, I have tried with no AFM it didn’t change anything, I compression tested today 140-150 across all 6 cylinders, also set fuel pressure to 43psi. The only weird thing was cylinder 1 plug was black and fouled other 5 cylinders were just wet with fuel. Spun cas by hand and confirmed injectors are clicking

    • A 1.5 way is a 2 way. It is just a 2 way with a less aggressive ramp on overrun.
    • The ABS and/or TCS being missing/broken will not cause the engine to misbehave. It just casues CEL to come on and annoy you. The CEL is useless if it is always on, so you have to do the things you have to do to get rid of it, so it can be useful. Being a Stag ECU, then yes, it will not expect TCS to be present. But it will expect ABS to be present and working. You will need to either make the ABS CU talk to the ECU (don't ask me what that will take on an NA R34), and make sure the hardware is working....or, you just need to blank it out in Nistune. Do not persist with the stock ECU. You will just have problems. Gte it Nistuned. Start from there. DO YOU HAVE A BOOST SENSOR? The ECU's boost sensor that it. It is connected to the loom at the rear of the coil cover. Usually rides on the firewall on an R34, but is usually bolted down to a bracket along with all the other crap at the back of the coil cover when a Neo is dropped into another car. If you do not have it, the ECU will shit the bed. So, do you have one?
    • So sadly the fuel pump etc was not it. The pump and filter is new and it is still cutting around 4000 rpm. A read something about ABS/TCS (engine is from stagea and ECU too so no TCS) and i dont know for 100% that my car has ABS. It has ABS "cube" in engine bay but i dont think it works(or at least from my braking experience). Can be something like that?  I will be driving the car next week to Nistune tuner to properly see what is wrong...
