Well seen as rubys got shut down before i got to post

i thought i would make a legal car thread

Mine would have to be when i got my second car, a factory 5 speed VS commy

and then getting it dynoed to blow away everyone that had done N/A work to there motor while mine was stock and get 150RWKW. i had a slipping diff at the time too

but the trophy i got on that day was awesome

just to know that you dont have to spend $1000's on your car to get power

and latest would be i have spent less then $800 and my car makes easy over 200rwkw, with no supporting mods (aka fuel)

and doing all the work myself (doing it yourself is the best feeling ever knowing that your are pouring your heart into it to getting it right)(yes i have had training)

lets here your genuine achievements to do with CARS

:D

Thats a win none the less!!!!!!!!!

my greatest achievement is when i owned the r33 and it showed me i am not invincible! i realised there's a difference between having balls and going fast then being a skilled driver going fast! basically i became a realist :D

Not my car but with a car...

Hiring a Porsche in 2006 before the World Cup and driving 400km to the Nurburgring, spending 4 days visiting and lapping the Ring, and then the drive back to return the car. I survived the Ring without crashing (at least 2 people died and possibly another 2 did as well the Sunday I was there - all in separate accidents), I hit 250kmph legally on the German autobahns and felt completely safe doing it, and I ticked off one item of my list of 'Things to do before I die'.

... and then I went to the World Cup!

Me and my mates did the same except in a M5 BMW

we were doing 165kmph....a ferrari pulls up next to us and within a second he disappeared in front of us

i was truely amazed

Yeah, there's nothing like doing 255kph legally on the german autobahn :D But I was on a motorcycle ... which makes it even more of an adrenalin rush :P

My achievements have been the building of some project cars that were different from the norm:

Supercharged SR20DE in a 200B

VG30BB turboed CA18DET in a 1600 wagon (roll cage, beefed up rear axle, brakes, suspension etc)

13B powered Bluebird

plus a T25 turboed CBR1000 drag bike

All of these were running and the first two I owned for a few years before selling. I still see the SC 200B from time to time. :D

greatest achievement is owning the car, regardless of what i do to it or what happens to it, i own and drive i car that i really love!

ps, i dont have high hopes for this thread, it will contain wasteland style discussion, car related or otherwise.

Yeah. While its a pain to constantly fork out money to repair stuff, I suppose its to be expected considering my GTR is nearly 20 years old.

But... every little thing I do to it to improve it, keeps me occupied and satisfied.... upgrades are fun stuff, I just wish I had a bottomless wallet...

-D

Agreed guys, it took me 16 years to actually own a GTR after first seeing them and saying "I gotta get one of those!"

As far as achievement goes with my cars I would say that winning the first modern regularity event at Mallala in 2003 with my old 32 would rate up there...

In 8years going from 110rwkw to over 300rwkw with no engine blow ups and having an rb20det gearbox hang behind the motor for 6years before it popped.

I'd have to say the biggest achievement. Not getting it defected, zero speeding fines or road offences in that time!

Mine would be doing a full ground up rebuild on my VK Charger a few years back. The satisfaction from knowing that i had done the work my self was great. But unfortunately due to my shoulder giving up the ghost it had to go to another home :(

Mine was/is My first car. Bought a LH torana... Stock, white, brown interior, 6cyl 173 auto.

My dad, grandpa and i did it up over the next 2 years. Did everything ourselves, didnt just write a check and get it done.

We sprayed it, re did the interior, put in a V8 , manual, everything.

The only thing we had to get done was the exhaust.

And then ive entered in a few shows and won a few awards for it. Which really was an achevment as my car cost only a few thousand to do and was beating out cars with proffesional this, profesional that and many more thousands spent on it then mine.

And not only that was good time to get together with my dad and my grandpa.. Was a good time...

In one of the pics shows an FJ. They also restored that one to...

Mine:

Owning my first car - a little 1985 Mazda 323 2 door. Had some form of engine swap in it, and it was turbo and f**k that thing went! Kept up to most WRX's at the lights and scared the shit out of most people with it's overly loud BOV. Was such a sleeper. Got bogged a few times at 4am on Moana :(:P Ended up selling it to my mate, who thought he was a pro rally driver and cracked the chassis.

But owning a 32 GTR is right up there, too. And in my area, it's quite an achievement haha. Me and my group of Southern mates have 'fully sik' gatherings at Macca's at Noarlunga on Friday nights and each time, the group got larger and larger with a huge range of imports (180's, a Leopard, R32's, R33's, etc) and now a 350GT has joined. After that, we venture into the Southern hills.

Love getting looks from people when driving the GTR, even had kids hanging out the car window in front of me taking pictures lol. Rocking up at mates places and get the "Oh shit! You own a GTR?! Take me for a spin NOW!" and the "Can you drop me off at Uni one day? I just want to look cool getting out of a GTR" lol. Even though the car is getting old and needs bits repaired and stuff, I love it.

And Dan, how the f**k did you pay for a GTR with cash?! You saved for years?

    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
