i know there is a few topics on it already but they are old and i was wondering if anyone has been running straight avgas without killing the engine,

i use to run my old civic on it, but it burn out all the exhaust valves, but doesnt the rb26 have sodium filled exhaust vales or something??

not too worried bout the o2 sensors as they're prob already dead

not doing it for performance gains, just coz i get get hold of a bit here and there

Umm, don't run it straight, best to mix with petrol 50:50, then ignition timing can be advanced (tuned to suit of course).

Don't run a cat converter, it kills them too.

It's not street legal....

That's all we have found.

a few of the boys at work mix it 50/50 and throw in in their motorbikes, saying that people usually take it from the slops tank, so make sure you drain for water content before adding to your tank.

it does require a tune to run properly, i stay clear of it personally unless you can guarantee a sufficient supply to mix half half all the time and tune to suit.

Yes it will destroy a cat. It's leaded and it clogs up the cat. Makes it overheat to the point of glowing red and destroys it. I've seen it happen.

Dearlove, you might want to look into water/meth injection as a cheap option for the net effect of higher octane gas. Is it something you want to run all the time or just for track nights? If just track nights, you could also make some of your own high octane brew with something like tolulene (sp?) of xylene. Has the effect of taking US R/M+2 93 octane gas up to around 98 octane. What do you guys have down there? Av gas is only like 106 or there abouts IIRC.

lol 106? id b shitting the gear if i could get my hands on some of that...if its tuned on 98 then 106 is going to make fkn absolutely no diff other than protect ur engine slightly from det...waste of time... rather stick 100 shot up it then tune it on that crap...at least it would have some valuable effect

Because it contains lead, it is illegal to use it in a car complied to run unleaded. It will kill the O2 sensors, and the cat. (and de-catting is also illegal).

Before you get caught with it in the fuel tank, make sure you have a very good relationship with your local bank manager.

It doesn't kill 02 sensors - we have an XR6T that has covered thousands of kilometers on avgas without destroying anything - mind you it doesn't have a cat. And as for red exhuast thats crap. It leaves a white residue in the exhuast system thats why it makes reading plugs more difficult too - as they appear alot whiter ie- hotter than what they actually are.

Gee maybe they painted it red then. my mistake

i just mentioned it because a friend of mine run it in his Supra for a while and the inside of the tip on his cannon muffler went red.

I love SAU. Its the one place to go when you want to make someone get all uptight.

Keep it up.

HAHA, no im not stealing it.

i work in the aviation industry, thats all

and i know a bit bout the fuel,

it burns slower than 98 therefore increasing its detenation charateristics, and in turn it burns hotter, and killed my poor litle civic engine's valves

it doesnt make the exhaust go red but when running really rich i have seen it going 'sort of white' but mostly black

its got alot of lead in it, say the old leaded fuel for cars was like 0.05g of lead or something, avgas is about 6g (my numbers my be a little wrong) thats why they are trying to get rid of it just like in cars

it has a lower reid pressure, cant be bothered explaining, plus it doesnt matter if your running it in a car.

    • GCG is a good company, they're a major distributor for Garrett in Japan as well.
    • Nah, OEM washer bottle and brake fluid reservoirs are fine I don't know what it is with the plastic that Mazda used, some plastics, like the washer bottle and brake fluid res are fine, and still look new after 20 years use, where as the coolant expansion tank, and PS reservoir, that I replaced with new OEM items when I first got the car, turned yellow and started getting brittle a few years later If the dirty yellow stained plastics didn't trigger me there wouldn't be an issue, but they did, much like the battery bracket....... Meh As for going back to work full time to support car stuff, nope, why, because I own a Mazda NC MX5, not a Nissan R series Skyline 🤣
    • I've never heard of CJ-motor, so can't advise you on them. I'd just go straight to GCG for a GCG highflow though. Seems no point to use a middleman. I'm somewhat surprised that the price on the CJ site is lower than the GCG retail price. Even though CJ would get a discount of some sort, you would hardly expect them to give up so much margin. Maybe the price is out of date? Having said that "I'd go to GCG"...when I did my highflow, I went to Hypergear. I did this https://hypergearturbos.com/product/rb25dethighflow/#tab-dyno-results with the R34 OP6 450HP profile. With the BB centre (extra $400) and intially with the standard boost actuator, but I eventually got him to send me the high pressure one when I got to the point of being able to actually use it. Ends up costing the same sort of money as the GCG highflow, but this is, of course, the turbo that I KNOW has a shorter length core and so moves the comp cover rearwards. The GCG apparently doesn't do that. My mechanic also swears by the GCG highflow, given that we have another turbo rebuilder who does something essentialy the same as theirs, using Garrett wheels. He says it stands up at really low revs and makes good power. I haven't pushed my HG highflow past ~240-250rwkW yet (should have a little more in it, but unclear how much) and it does have a fairly gentle boost ramp. OK, it's much better now that I have gotten my boost controller tuned up on it.  A lot of my earlier unhappiness was because I couldn't keep the wastegate flap as closed as it needed to be (including some mechanical issues). I'd still prefer it to boost up nearly as quickly as the stocker, and it certainly a bit slower than that. So maybe the GCG one is worth the first look (for you).
    • Ok thanks 🙂 I will higly consider this. Any "known" company for a good reviews and experience to send that off? Is that CJ-motor good one? Or go straight to GCG site? I need to use VPN to even find some of those "shops" let alone access them 🙂
    • You can literally put in as much WMI as it takes to quench the combustion totally (and then back it off a little, obviously), and it will keep making more and more power. The power comes from the cooling effect of the water (and the meth) and the extra fuel (the meth, which also has massive octane). It is effectively exactly like running E85. One might be slightly better than the other, but they are damn close. But with either you can lean on the boost or the timing (or both) waaaay more than with just petrol and the results are similar. Here's the first thing I googled for an anecdotal bit of evidence. Can't access the attachment without being a gold member, but it is there for the getting if able to, or searched up elsewise perhaps. https://www.hpacademy.com/forum/general-tuning-discussion/show/wmi-vs-e85/
