Hello All.

I received a phone call today from Neil. Obviously he wanted to comment on the horrid accident that happened on the weekend.

He has read the threads in regards the wrx /skyline crash, and wanted to have a friendly chat on the impact it's had on the car scene.

Understandably, there has been talk about police now targeting wrx and skylines, and from one thread in particular, thoughts that they will now pull over every single skyline / wrx they see. Neil would like to make clear that this is not the case.

Neil and his team do not want this to turn into an "excuse" to target high performance vehicles who ARE NOT breaking the law. however, Hooning / speeding will be dealt with accordingly.

A word of advice from Neil, if for any reason, any news reporting programmes such as today tonight or acurrent affair approach any club members and want to talk about what happened and what kind of club we are, he advises not to. As they will only twist our words to make us look irresponsible and like hoons.

Also, if there will be any planned cruises to raise money or to support the families effected by this accident, then Neil would like to be notified so he can help us organise a smooth cruise route to help keep the cruise together. if notified Neil will provide any assistance he is able to.

thanks Guys

Nene

Spot on Nene, SAPOL will indeed leave you alone if you are not breaking the law, which includes HOONING/SPEEDING and DRIVING AN ILLEGALLY MODIFIED VEHICLE.....maybe he just forgot that bit, but its pertinent when it applies to probably 80% of the members here :)

umm do we know you martin? i havnt meet you on a cruise before i dont think

Correct, and you won't meet me on a cruise....and although we have some nice Skylines/GTRs thats exactly my point.

However I have been a member here since 2002 and been an active drag racer most of the time. Go figure :)

What sized stilettos do you wear?

Just like to thank Neil for putting my mind to rest a bit. I've been stressing thanks to the situation over the weekend that I would just get pulled over at any chance the police get. Many of you don't drive your skylines/stag's everyday but I do and the thought of having to go through the trouble of being pulled over, defected, regency then repeat continually is to much of a costly exercise for me.

But a warning to most. Even if you're car isn't 'heavily modified' speeding and being an idiot on the road isn't going to help any of us and just because you don't see any marked police cars around doesn't mean there isn't one in the car next to you.

Don't be stupid, don't f**k it for everyone else.

Thankyou Neil again for clearing it all up.

+1 for Neil's message. Tho tbh I'm not worried as my car is virtually undefectable (yes I know there are ignorant people out there would would happily slap a canary on me but I've never had any trouble in the past... that and I'm much more rotund than most of you, police know me and my car are built for comfort and not speed :)

Edit : Not having a go at you nene, but I love it how someone dies and it becomes a tragedy *sigh*... just like the newspaper "STOP THE CARNAGE" - have these people ever been to Iraq ?

Josef Stalin - "One death is a tragedy. A million deaths is a statistic"

good stuff neil.

He is right, the news cant report anything right around here..lol sports maybe not real news.

plus it would be in bad light not to include a police officer rep to support our cause , we dont condone stupid activities

and the peer pressure here tries to reduce it by doing the right thing, not a rebel late night racing, 2f 2f style

road closed pizza boy

dont drive like a moron , enuf said

sad thing is theyre more preoccupied with britney and other b grade celebrities than reporting real world events that have any relevance

makes me feel sorry for the sapol media liasons getting their words twisted or blown out of proportion... politicians feed on that stuff like vultures to a land mine victim

I too want to thank Nene and Neil for the communication and understanding they have kept up. Thanks guys. It's really going to make a difference for everyone if this keeps up.

+1 for Nene and Neil. We need the lines of communication open at times like this. :)

-10 to Martin. :) "Active" member since 2002 with 350 odd posts? I've only ever seen your posts going off-topic, like even now. Never seen you on a cruise. Never seen you at any fund raiser. Never seen you at any SAU event at all. Thats not active, thats being asleep. Which is your attitude right now towards trying to establish a relationship with SAPOL. Wake up! ... contribute positively, or go away and don't come back. :)

No, he doesn't need too. He's been in the 'game' for ages. He knows SAPOL like the back of his hand.

    • Have a look at that (shitty) pic I posted. You can see AN -4 braided line coming to a -4 to 1/8 BSPT adapter, into a 1/8 BSPT T piece. The Haltech pressure sender is screwed into the long arm of the sender and factory sender (pre your pic) into the T side. You can also see the cable tie holding the whole contraption in place. Is it better than mounting the sender direct to your engine fitting......yes because it removes that vibration as the engine revs out 50 times every lap and that factory sender is pretty big. Is it necessary for you......well I've got no idea, I just don't like something important failing twice so over-engineer it to the moon!
    • Yup. You can get creative and make a sort of "bracket" with cable ties. Put 2 around the sender with a third passing underneath them strapped down against the sender. Then that third one is able to be passed through some hole at right angles to the orientation of the sender. Or some variation on the theme. Yes.... ummm, with caveats? I mean, the sender is BSP and you would likely have AN stuff on the hose, so yes, there would be the adapter you mention. But the block end will either be 1/8 NPT if that thread is still OK in there, or you can drill and tap it out to 1/4 BSP or NPT and use appropriate adapter there. As it stands, your mention of 1/8 BSPT male seems... wrong for the 1/8 NPT female it has to go into. The hose will be better, because even with the bush, the mass of the sender will be "hanging" off a hard threaded connection and will add some stress/strain to that. It might fail in the future. The hose eliminates almost all such risk - but adds in several more threaded connections to leak from! It really should be tapered, but it looks very long in that photo with no taper visible. If you have it in hand you should be able to see if it tapered or not. There technically is no possibility of a mechanical seal with a parallel male in a parallel female, so it is hard to believe that it is parallel male, but weirder things have happened. Maybe it's meant to seat on some surface when screwed in on the original installation? Anyway, at that thread size, parallel in parallel, with tape and goop, will seal just fine.
    • How do you propose I cable tie this: To something securely? Is it really just a case of finding a couple of holes and ziptying it there so it never goes flying or starts dangling around, more or less? Then run a 1/8 BSP Female to [hose adapter of choice?/AN?] and then the opposing fitting at the bush-into-oil-block end? being the hose-into-realistically likely a 1/8 BSPT male) Is this going to provide any real benefit over using a stainless/steel 1/4 to 1/8 BSPT reducing bush? I am making the assumption the OEM sender is BSPT not BSPP/BSP
    • I fashioned a ramp out of a couple of pieces of 140x35 lumber, to get the bumper up slightly, and then one of these is what I use
    • I wouldn't worry about dissimilar metal corrosion, should you just buy/make a steel replacement. There will be thread tape and sealant compound between the metals. The few little spots where they touch each other will be deep inside the joint, unable to get wet. And the alloy block is much much larger than a small steel fitting, so there is plenty of "sacrificial" capacity there. Any bush you put in there will be dissimilar anyway. Either steel or brass. Maybe stainless. All of them are different to the other parts in the chain. But what I said above still applies.
