Hey guys.

Not sure if this has been posted somewhere but i did a search and look around everywhere but still have no idea.

Bought and R32 GTS4T a couple months ago from QLD. Had some problems with the car but had them all fixed.

Rego ran out so booked in for blue slip and was told i couldn't get it done because it didn't have an Import plate.

It has the blue plate on the fire wall, an engraved VIN and another plate with a VIN on it. Also has the QLD mod plate.

Now as far as i knew the Blue plate was the import plate and getting it blue slipped and registered would be straight forward with no hassles.

Im after any help i can get so i can have this thing registered. Ive read so much on the DOTARS and SEVS sites and what not but it all just runs me in circles.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

the blue plate on the firewall is not the 'import plate' as you call it. in fact there is no such thing as an import plate. the blue plate is the original nissan plate with the chassis number, build date, driveline code, paint code etc.

the first thing you need to establish is what scheme was your car imported under? what state was it first registered in after it was imported?

first piece of advise is never let rego lapse if you can avoid it, as problems like this often come up when needing to re-establish rego with blue slip etc.

is your car an 89 or 90 model? if so there is a big possibility it was imported under the old 15yo scheme prior to 06.

if that is the case the requirements for it's registration would be a state thing. 15yo rule cars were 'complied' differently in each state. some times they had plates affixed with the new aussie VIN and the compliers name etc. sometimes they just had the aussie vin engraved and/or a VIN plate affixed. this could cause you some head aches.

if it was imported under the old CPA scheme it should have a compliance plate fitted.

if it was imported under SEVS it should have a compliance plate, or compliance sticker/label fitted.

if it was a personal import it will most likely have a personal import plate fitted.

as you can see there are too many variables. you need to establish how it was imported. do you have the VIA?

So does this mean that depending on what scheme the car was imported by, and since the car was originally complied in Qld, that street_racer should try to nominally sell his car to a Qld relative > get that Qld relative to re-register that car in Qld under the relative's name (and in the process, paying a 'late registration fee') > then transfer ownership back to street_racer here in NSW provided that the NSW RTA permits this final Transfer of Ownership for NSW Registration???

If the VIN is stamped on the chassis (with 6U90000xxxx... or with 1MP0RT in the VIN somewhere) then it has been complied normally, and should be fine for rego.

Sorry to state the bleeding obvious, but street_racer, did you check for a pink plate on your B-pillar? Open the passenger's door and have a look on the pillar there. There's every chance the person at the RTA has NFI what they're doing and didn't check there either.

Give us (either via PM or on here) your full 17-digit VIN and that should clear things up.

NSW RTA rules may be different for registering 15yo cars. I know under the old 15yo scheme many cars imported to NSW were issued with a kind of compliance plate but in other states it was not done or needed to be done. that is the problem with the old 15yo scheme, all that was required was the state rego requirements which of course are different every state.

sorry to steal the thread but i'm in tas atm and have an r32 gtst that was imported under the 15y/o rule

i normally live in qld but in tas for uni and will be taking the car to qld at the end of the year

if i want to transfer it to a qld rego what will i have to do?

the car only has the jap vin stamped into it but it has the aus vin on the rego documents

will i be able to transfer it?

It's ok you're right - if it's a 15 year import, then every state has different requirements for registration, it's a right pain in the bum. I'm just working off the assumption that if it has be assigned a VIN, it would've been complied in the normal sense.

pipster11, you MAY get away with it if the car is registered in your name with Tassie plates, because they don't normally have to do an ID inspection in these cases, but expect the worst and assume you'll need an engineer to sign off on it etc etc same as you would if it had just arrived from Japan.

Before we all wasting time here , You need to state what year is the car been manufactured , what year was imported in to Aus.

And yes in QLD under 15 year old rule cars was fitted with blue" mod" plate as a -import/compliance/mod plate etc .Every one got different name for it .

Compliance rules are same for QLD/NSW.

So more info need to be placed to help You man.

To registered a 15 year import in qld you needed a qld engineer to fit a Mod plate with LO1 engraved on it (L01 means adr compliant). To register the same car in NSW you needed a NSW engineers cert which is just a A4 piece of paper basicly saying the same thing. If you want to register in both states you needed both. Just get a NSW engineers cert and you should be fine to register it in NSW. Check out sapid.com.au as he is an engineer for both states

I have been interested in that car, although it is QLD registered and I will want to bring it over to NSW. I am going to try and have the dealership organise this if i can, for less hassles and peace of mine it will comply, and I have no idea how I would begin to go about it!

    • I seem to the be only person that is using a Haltech 2500 on an NA motor, I've installed a Bosch DBW throttle body to the OEM intake manifold and am having problems maintaining AFR even with the wideband o2.  It will run extremely rich at idle and up to redline, but under load it will go extremely lean in the 20s and i'm essentially having to rev it over 4k and feather the clutch to get it up to speed.  I've read a few other threads of about the butterfly, it seems removing the vacuum to it is supposed to have it remain open, i've noticed no difference under 4k with the vacuum line to it plugged.  I'm hoping someone here has had luck using the NA manifold with Haltech, and if they happen to have a tune for it.  
    • I don't know any details, but I really wouldn't be surprised if they do it as a LHD only version, at least initially.
    • Thanks for the replies everyone. Definitely a coolant push. Oil catch can is empty and always has been. As the engine is out now I'll be having a good look over things. I do have some detonation on the piston tops from a trigger issue back about 5 years ago. I felt it and shut off then bought a new ecu and changed the trigger. Never been an issue since. It never hurt the power, its made almost 80hp more since that incident but I will pull the bearing caps to take a look. If the bearings are damaged I will do a bottom end refresh. Head is being re conditioned at the moment and the block will be cleaned and checked to ensure it's flat. I'll go with a kameari gasket and see how it ends up. The other thing I'm not super keen on is the cylinder colours. I suspect this is from the inlet manifold. The plan will be to put it back together, retune and then stick a plazmaman billet inlet on it and retune. I'm happy with the power, if it makes a little more, then great, but I would rather just make everything more efficient at this stage.

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
