I must live a charmed existence because in 5+ years of daily driving skylines (Car 1: Aussie R31 with RB20DET, loud exhaust, minispool, etc Car 2: stock R33) I have yet to be pulled over for "driving a skyline". HWP got me once for mobile phone. I was part of a cruise on the central coast and was pulled up because cops were looking for someone who had misbehaved, got asked if I had a blow off valve and I just said no and he said go on get out of here.

Would love to know where the rest of you hang out to get into so much trouble. I even get waved past RBTs. Sorry to rub it in but you guys gotta be drawing attention to yourselves somehow.

My R33 is a daily driver and gets treated without a thought at times, but when I clean it well or spend some time maintaining it the car just seems to drive better and I get a silly grin all over again.

I suppose the reason I got so much attention was that I had to drive from work to home every day through bad neighbourhoods and through town which maximised my chance of being pulled over every day. That said though my car was pure stock, I never knowingly speed and the points I have lost for speeding were of the not knowing the speedlimit in a new town kind. Every police officer I pass would pull me over. Once when a friend was in the car and we drove from (those that know Hobart) Glenorchy mall through to Sandy Bay. Around 30 kilometres I believe.

In that distance we were pulled over three times, the third time by the same officers as the first time.

It was just ridiculous. Of course I believe this was during that week where they were cracking down on hoons but this was during the middle of the day on a calm saturday drive. Maybe they thought I was a drug dealer or something - wanted to search the boot and everything.

However when I spent my time in Sandy Bay and its surrounds I would never get pulled over - ever.

Nevertheless it was still a downside of owning the car. Dynamically there have been few cars nicer to drive than the R33 I had though.

I agree with you there, although I haven't driven a lot of different cars/imports. But they're definitely better the the locally delivered offering.

My back hurts on long driving trips though....

Yep, what else can you buy for <$20k which is such a damn good car. I can't think what else I'd like to own (aside from an R32 GTR as a weekend/track car) until I start looking at many multiples of my car's market price.

theres a few simple things you can do to improve the look of your car dude. then you will love it.

1. paint the skirts

2. get a gtr grill

3. find a different front bar

4. take to your headlights with autosol

it just needs a tidy up... maybe buy it something new to enhance the performance, get it tuned or something... or drive someone elses flogged out r32 and you'll see how much nicer the 33 is to sit in.

Yup, I cut and polished the paint and glassylite'd the headlights on my 33 and re-mounted my standard bumper after backyard FMIC install a few years back and the love is back. Even took some pics. I drive my work car 05 Impreza RS (closest to WRX teh boss would go) and miss the Skyline almost everyday.

The gtr grille is on the to do next list...

you should post the pics

Thats the before and after of the headlights :/ . Upgraded the globes at the same time, makes a big difference with clear headlights. Will get the other pics up soon.

Wow, mine were never that bad to start with. I did apply a headlight restorer to mine about the start of the year and they came up shmicko like yours. They've since started going backwards a little but still look good.

So I cleaned her up today inside and outside and gave it a polish and a wax and she looks nice again. I don't want to get it dirty now.

Ive had my car for 5 months now, bought it dead stock in shit condition. Paint is bad, shocks were dead, brakes were horrible, interior was dirty and had dog hair everywhere, had horrible wheels & tyres on it and it is AUTO. However, the body was straight apart from a couple lil dents and mechanically great.

Reason I bought it, was a tad over 5k and a perfect track car project.

So in the last 5 months I've pretty much replaced everything that was wrong with it with performance parts and then some! Wont go in to detail (cos there's a shitload of things) but got it to handle and brake the way I want to and all that's left now is some power and am waiting for some time to install my M-Spec front bar + side skirts, then respray the whole car. The rest of time I've spent detailing every part of it till it was clean and shiny again.

Now, I didn't like the r33's much at all, however after countless days and nights I've spent doing pretty much 95% of the work myself, I could not love it more!!!

I honestly cant wait till i have to wake up in 4 hours, feeling like shit thinking "why the f**k do i have to go to uni again", yet when I sit back and flick the key every morning it makes the pain go away. Ive heard of people going "Oh I really cant wait to drive my car again.." many times before owning the 33 and always thought why? I mean I've had a few cars myself and drove quite a few imports before, heck i spent more money on my old tx3 turbo maintaining it and keeping it in factory floor condition than what it was worth (this thing had books and every receipt for everything ever done) yet I never felt the same connection... until just recently I've been getting the feeling with my r33. Its getting to a point that it makes me sad when I know I cant take it for a drive and ruins my day.

Next step is rb25/30 motor build + some other goodies and a manual conversion in preparation for track... cant wait!!

Who doesn't love their car?

I've owned it for 3 years now. It's a daily and gets treated like a daily too. It gets serviced and all the maintenance attention it needs, but I don't really feel compelled to keep it clean. I don't seem to care about it anymore. I've put money into it and made it go a bit quicker and handle a bit better and stop a bit better. I enjoy the way it drives and have put only a couple of visual mods to make it bearable in my eye. The S1 R33's are a bit on the ugly side, and I've thought that since day 1.

It's reliable, it goes relatively well but doesn't break any fastest car in town records and don't really want it to. I feel spending anymore money on the car is futile. Heck I even dropped my comprehensive insurance for third party fire and theft.

It get's washed like once every 6 - 8 weeks. The mods that were put on were put on with a 'she'll be right' attitude.

I know it's a good car, but that's all it is to me now.

Share your hate for your car...

So why did you buy the car in the first place?

You just need a few more kW's to regain the love.

Or if you don't love it anymore, turn it into a drift pig and give it a good thrashing...

If not sell the car and get a GTR.

It's what was available and within my budget at the time. I had been waiting to get rid of my old junker for some time and step into something better, i was getting desperate...I even considered buying a maxima or a 3.5L magna ;) I'm sooo glad I didn't.

5 months isn't long though. It's great when you spend money on it and get it going really good, although I'm not prepared to spend as much as you have on mine.

Hahahaha they are too! You in Townsville?

haha yeah hence the matt black. Nah Atherton T'lands ay. I went down just after the floods to pick them up. Stuck em on with doubleside and drove them back up lol.

I can't believe how much went into his 33 only to be parted out.

Yeah right...

LOL! The Maxima and/or Magna would have been great for a daily.

Sell it and get a GTR in my opinion... Totally different car.

See how you go.

    • Hi, SteveL Thank you very much for your reply, you seem to be the only person on the net who has come up with a definitive answer for which I am grateful. The "Leak" was more by way of wet bubbles when the pedal was depressed hard by a buddy while trying to gey a decent pedal when bleeding the system having fitted the rebuilt BM50 back in the car, which now makes perfect sense. A bit of a shame having just rebuilt my BM50, I did not touch the proportioning valve side of things, the BM50 was leaking from the primary piston seal and fluid was running down the the Brake booster hence the need to rebuild, I had never noticed any fluid leaking from that hole previously it only started when I refitted it to the car. The brake lines in the photo are "Kunifer" which is a Copper/Nickel alloy brake pipe, but are only the ones I use to bench bleed Master cylinders, they are perfectly legal to use on vehicles here in the UK, however the lines on the car are PVF coated steel. Thanks again for clearing this up for me, a purchase of a new BMC appears to be on the cards, I have been looking at various options in case my BM50 was not repairable and have looked at the HFM BM57 which I understand is manufactured in Australia.
    • Well the install is officially done. Filled with fluid and bled it today, but didn't get a chance to take it on a test drive. I'll throw some final pics of the lines and whatnot but you can definitely install a DMAX rack in an R33 with pretty minor mods. I think the only other thing I had to do that isn't documented here is grind a bit of the larger banjo fitting to get it to clear since the banjos are grouped much tighter on the DMAX rack. Also the dust boots from a R33 do not fit either fyi, so if you end up doing this install for whatever reason you'll need to grab those too. One caveat with buying the S15 dust boots however is that the clamps are too small to fit on the R33 inner tie rod since they're much thicker so keep the old clamps around. The boots also twist a bit when adjusting toe but it's not a big deal. No issues or leaks so far, steering feels good and it looks like there's a bit more lock now than I had before. Getting an alignment on Saturday so I'll see how it feels then but seems like it'll be good to go
    • I don't get in here much anymore but I can help you with this.   The hole is a vent (air relief) for the brake proportioning valve, which is built into the master cylinder.    The bad news is that if brake fluid is leaking from that hole then it's getting past the proportioning valve seals.   The really bad news is that no spare parts are available for the proportioning valve either from Nissan or after market.     It's a bit of a PITA getting the proportioning valve out of the master cylinder body anyway but, fortunately, leaks from that area are rare in my experience. BTW, if those are copper (as such) brake lines you should get rid of them.    Bundy (steel) tube is a far better choice (and legal  in Australia - if that's where you are).
