I have only, do only and will only ever, use Mobil Synergy 8000. Sure it gets a little pricey sometimes but someone once told me that was the one to use for my Skyline. And when he talks Liners, I listen.

I think it all comes down to preference tho. I'm not sure there is a "perfect" fuel to use.

I was reading a big write up on the quality of fuels in Australia and it had some VERY interesting info in it. Personally I only user Optimax but once my new car arrives I wont be using it anymore. It turns out of Vortex, Optimax, BP Ultimate and Synergy 8000 that only two of these fuels have a true 98RON level - Optimax and BP Ultimate. It is even stated on Mobil and Caltex's web sites that their high grade fuel ranges between 95 to 97 and that’s piss poor!

Another thing I found was that BP Ultimate is a higher grade fuel than Optimax due to the fact they add additives to Optimax to get it high octane levels where as BP is brewed that way and has less aromatics than Optimax. Interesting hey!

As for higher grade fuels - Elf LMS. This stuff is shit hot and can provide up to a 30rwk gain in power in cars like Skylines etc. LMS is available in either 200 liter or 50 liter drums. Price: $4.85 per liter (200litre drum), $5.30 per liter (50litre drum).

As LMS is an unleaded fuel, no CAMS license is required to purchase the fuel only problem is as you can see it’s pricey but well worth it for a day at the drags. Should get a few runs with a 50 liter drum :P

some of the 'better' octane boosters do provide up to 2.0 points increase. Nulon Pro Strength gave I think about 1.7 in a HPI test a couple of years back and for about $12-15 was the best buy in that dept [octane booster dept].

Adz: Strangely enough I think I find Synergy gives me a smoother idle than BP...strange.

Ward: in terms of price I dont find synergy any dearer than ultimate in my area, they are both around 7 cents dearer than regular unleaded, whilst optimax is approx 8.5 cents dearer...

Ahhhh I stand corrected. But as you said some of the "better" octane boosters have a decent increase, not all :P

As for the idle I honestly dont know. The information I have is written info form the makers of the fuel, maybe Mobile does idle better?

thats cool, I wasnt really asking a question about it, I was just stating that because mobil seems to be an inferior fuel [in terms of octane at least] I am surprised it seems to feel smoother in my car as compared to ultimate...I still use ultimate because of the octane level :P

    • Yes, I know🙄 but the sequential is not in my budget... don't want to reduce power neither, so looks like I'm stuck in the rabbit hole🤣

    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
