Hi guy i was wondering which of those following are better in terms of reliability, performance, cost to repair ,cost, aftermarket support, and why? :wub:

i had a 3rd gen prelude. it was given to me for free, i used it as a daily thrasher, cut the muffler off, and after a couple of months (really there was one particular 2 week stretch) of taking it to the limiter with no oil AND no water in it, it died a horrible death, and went to the scrap yard.

while it was fun, i wouldnt go as far as paying for one

if you do get one, get open pipes on it, just a catback, but have no mufflers, as they actually sound pretty cool. i remember once got a random ECU error and went in to limp home mode, so rev limit was at 4000rpm. best drive home from work ever! peak hour traffic, but i'd wait for traffic to get a bit ahead so i could be a sick c*nt. it went something like this:

brrraaaaaaaAAAAAAA NANG NANG NANG NANG *chirp* BRRAAA NANG NANG NANG :D ahhhh those were the days

Matsushita Air Cond Compressors back then had poor reliability/life span.

4WS on the Prelude being mechanical was very reliable.

Services had to be kept up or oil galleries would clog with sludge.

Some older people bought Preludes and serviced them regularly. These ones are most desirable, because of their superb cond'n.

...unless of course their eyesight is poor > driving by sound rather than sight.

I would go the Honda Prelude 3rd Gen - I've picked myself up one just last week to use as a daily - auto, cruise control, air con/heater, power steering, very comfy sporty seats, small nimble car with the 4WS makes turning and cornering real fun - waiting to get the CV joints fixed and a major service then I'll hit up the hills the same route I've taken the Skyline see how well the 4WS Prelude goes compared to the R33 lol...

I have owned both. Bought the prelude with body damage just to tear out the engine and had an integra for a while as well.

Dynamically the integra is the far more sportsy car to drive - for a front wheel drive anyhow. Even the non-vtec engines in these things feel fairly strong even if they do tend to suffer from the traditional honda lack of torque. However this just makes it more fun to drive as you thrash away through the gears - quite amusing.

The prelude on the other hand (which has either a 2.3 litre or 2.2 VTEC) had the 2.2 VTEC. Totally different animal to the integra. It felt more like a comfy cruiser, the larger capacity made for quite the torquey engine and again it was fun to drive quickly but (mainly due to a more lazy engine I believe) felt like a big heavy cruiser.

In terms of mechanical problems the integra was traditional honda i.e. pretty reliable. It needed a new water pump however it had travelled 200,000 kilometres. Apart from that it was just a case of regular services. Air con was a bit meh - never seemed to work properly and I couldn't be bothered fixing it.

The prelude was only driven for a month or so due to the body damage. In that time nothing really went wrong though. Again though the air con never worked. Not that I cared - I bought it dirt cheap with low kilometres for that engine.

Yes I have a 2001 Mitsubishi Lancer GLi 2-door coupe.

1.5lt (4G15), inline 4, SOHC, 69kW.

Full tank on 95 RON abour $35 - $40 for a good 400kms - 500kms

Easy to maintain, parts are ready available from the local Mitsubishi dealer or easily sourced through my mechanic.

Perfect A to B car and easy to park.

As for the Honda Prelude, I don't mind the 4th and 5th Generation.

4th Generation 1992-1996

2.2L 135 hp (101 kW) I4 S

2.3L 160 hp (119 kW) I4 Si

2.2L 190 hp (142 kW) I4 VTEC

5th Generation 1997-2001

2.2L VTEC 195 hp (145 kW) (97-98) H22 I4

2.2L VTEC 200 hp (149 kW) (99-01) H22 I4

Zippy little cars and performance is increased as opposed to the Lancer and since they were sold here (ADM) parts are easy to source.

2nd and 3rd Generation... A bit older but all I can really say is, Honda's quality in their cars are over very well built as my uncles had Honda cars and motorbikes.

Never really had any problems and just service it when is need you will be fine.

I "think" Honda may cost a little more as opposed to other Japanese Car Manufactures but should not be too much more.

Man... it is a 'general automotive discussion' area, but asking questions about preludes/integra's that you are considering buying... Why would you post that on SKYLINESAustralia??

I could start a thread on the fuel economy of my sister's toyota corolla, or how carbon emmissions of a VT vs a VX commodore compare, and it would also be 'general automotive discussion'.... but once again.. Why post that on SKYLINESAustralia?

There are forums dedicated to hondas, and preludes (refer link's above). I am sure they would be able to provide much more info on them.

Both cars sell for like $4k and were built by Honda a long time ago... what can you expect. Seriously?

Give him a break, 'general automotive discussion' is what its called, lots of cars on this site are not Skylines, look in the for sale threads or the motor sport for example.

If you dont have anything usefull to post then dont post.

I have two mate who kept saying their honda( integra & prelude) are better than each other, and it annoying, sometime they ask me which 1 is better and i am not sure.I post here because the website u said , is biase cos i tried it. Oblivious prelude australia is goin 2 say the prelude is better. >_<

Good luck with your search, i would look at power to weight to get a better idea, but there are lots of variables, tyres/suspension ect, also better at what fuel consumption, cornering, comfort.

I like the look of the Integra better.

      Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch.       A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
