Hi everyone, ok here's my issue. I own an r33 s1 GTSt and I use it as a daily driver.

I took it to do a dyno run and it didnt make the power I wanted, the tuner said the car needed a remap, or an ecu then can have the timing and fuel tuned etc. He obviously recommmended the almighty Power FC so i started looking far and wide for one, realizing they were out of my price range.

A coupe of weeks back i found a Greddy Emanage blue for a real good price and picked it up, hasnt gone in my car at all, as i want to get it fully tuned by a mech first and do not wanna risk anythng if it has a bad tune on it. Now I want u to bear in mind that all I really wanna make is 200rwkw, any more woud be a bonus.

My car has a cat-back, hi flow turbo, getting a fmic this week, forged pistons and is running 10psi.

I mostly wanna tune my car for driveability, smoother idle,, that kinda stuff.

Now from what Ive seen on this and a couple of ther forums I visited about the emanage, everyone's giving it crap. I mean, I know the pfc is the much better option, but would I really need it if all I wanna make is 200kw?

This is as far as Im going when it comes to modifying the car. my tuner says 200 is possible as long as i got a boost controer, which i got yesterday. As I just mentioned, I dont wanna make much power, just get my car tuned well, coz the current setup has a poor tune (think the stock ecu got remapped ages ago and someone didnt do a good job).

So, am I right to with piggyback if I dnt wanna make too much power? I know, a pfc;s a lot better, but the emanage does some of what the pfc does too. I should b getting the tune done in the next 2 weeks, so i will post up dyno results.

Any info from u guys is appreciated.

Cheeerz

Ben

Hey ben im no expert but i would think a frontndump pipe and high flow cat would greatly help as the stock items are restrictive. That said with those mods the 200 should be acheivable especially with the highflow turbo - i thought they were capable of 230?? im sure someone with more knowledge will shed some light.

hey Rich, wel I got the standard front at dump pipes on there, just the cat back exhaust has been done, yeah a lot of people said the cars can easily make 220 to 230 on that kinda setup, I just wanna know if the ecu Im using would be good for those mods..

thanks for the quick reply

cheers ben

my friend has a greddy emanage he got same mods as u minus the hi flow but boosted it to 14psi for a year, no probs. runnin 209kw at the wheels

Okk sounds good, di he ever experience any problems with the ecu? I mean, Ive heard things about the emanage such as them melting your coil packs and stuff. Any one ese got the emanage?

this is cause people cant read instructions. The emanage blue will be fine, it does the same job as the Haltech interceptor etc.... but at half the price. I have a few std NA sr20's that have been turboed runing mid 200-230rwkw's with no dramas.

Arightt, well im just tired of people saying its a bad choice and talking it down, Ive already decided to go with the emanage as its cost effective and does all i wanna do atm. thanks for the quick replies, guys

well I don't think everyone says it's a bad choice full stop. it's just a bad choice for certain situations/set-ups. for your set-up it's a good choice. for 3 reasons.

1. the no 1 plug-in replacement ECU is not currently available for your model (PFC)

2. you are only interested in limited modifications.

3. it's cheap and within your budget.

so for you it's great. but if I had my GTR, with built engine, cams, bigger AFMS, bigger injectors, larger twin turbos, larger fuel pump etc and there are Power FCs readily available for good money then of course I'd be mad to run an emanage blue.

but yeah, your type of application is exactly it's target market.

Thats exacty what i mean, though I have done an engine rebuild coz I did a bearing ast year. Its got forged internas but the injectors, AFm and cams are the original ones. I also changed my fue pump to a wabro 255l/h item when mine died. So im fine with the emanage as long it doesnt "bow up my engine" as so many pp have said. Im happy with the price I got and will post up a dyno sheet as soon as its done. cheers

emanage can't and wont blow up your engine. the tuner might though... but yeah, providing the tuner knows what he's doing i'm sure you'll enjoy the results from the emanage. that goes for any ecu really. in general they are only as good as the guy tuning them. hardly any set-ups reach the limit of the ecu they are using.

I almost wish I had an emanage in the silvia so I could interface the profec E-01 I have with it... in fact, trent, what did you do with the emanage out of my silvia when you put the PFC in it?

oh, and I'm not sure who's tuning your car, but if you haven't settled on someone firmly yet then you should talk to "uras" on this forum. not many in aus know as much as he does about emanage and tuning them. I'd not hesitate in letting him tune mine that's for sure.

Lol Trent's tuning it.

haha, well ask him the bloody questions then! he knows more about emanage than he does about girls...:bunny:

haha ok cool, will do,, i just wanted to know wy peope gave the unit so much crap, but i kno i got notin to worry about now :banana::( .thanks a lot everyone

if you're just looking for 200rwkw...

i have the mods in my sig and made 195rwkw (i was looking for 200 as well)

safc was my lastest mod and it made a significant difference above 4000rpm

i would def say do the front/dump and hiflow cat as soon as you can though, your stock front/dump and cat are holding you back

strange setup, woulda thought ud clear 200 easy with any ecu and a few supporting mods. let us know

Yeah same, but i think somethin was done wrong with the ecu before i bought the car, I'll post up dyno sheets as soon as i get results,

cheers

Don't know about the E-manage but as far as piggy backs go I had a Unichip for a few years on my R33 and I sometimes wish I still had that same setup. Factory response and fuel economy with all safety built ins for protection. Had 215rwkws tuned by Croydon. If your looking for a front pipe I have two to choose from. One made by me and the other is a Just Jap unit that simply bolts up to your old system. Make sure you get the cooler in first though.

Ah ok, I am considering a front pipe after the cooler is in.

    • The trigger kit I have is similar to the one in the link below. While going through Facebook, I saw someone else mention a similar issue, and I’m starting to think this could be related to the crank gear itself. I understand these parts are CNC machined, but maybe some earlier versions or individual pieces might have slight inconsistencies—it just doesn’t look right in my case. https://www.facebook.com/share/16an8evZd9/?mibextid=wwXIfr I originally installed the crank gear using the thin OEM washer, but as shown in the attached photo, the timing belt walks very close to the edge. When I tried using a Nitto washer—which is thicker—it actually made the issue worse. The belt walks about 1mm off the front edge, which raises more concern about alignment.   I’ve gone through the full process of elimination:   The tensioner pulley and bolt are brand new and installed correctly. The bolt isn’t bent and is oriented properly. The back of the tensioner and the idler pulley are clean and seated correctly. The idler sits slightly more forward, which I understand is due to its design. I’ve experimented with both tight and loose belt tension, but it makes no difference. As soon as the engine runs, the belt immediately walks forward again—even if I reset it beforehand.     At this point, I’m considering replacing the crank gear with your Race Version 1 (12-tooth), but before purchasing, I wanted to ask:   Are you aware of any alignment issues when using this gear? Would this gear help keep the belt aligned correctly, or could the walking still occur? Does it work with a standard missing-tooth crank and rear washer? Is there any specific crank setup or install procedure required?     For reference, I’m not using a front washer, as the PRP crank gear seems to replace the need for one.   Looking forward to your advice.
    • Yep, looks that way. Never driven an E30 or R31 so I can only imagine
    • Yuh, My new R34 box is sitting on the workshop floor (in its large shipping box, which is a nice thing on its own), along with a front plate to convert to push clutch. There was no way I was interested in rebuilding my existing one. Was only partly interested in the risk of buying a used one. But, if you want a 2nd hander, I can point you to one in/near Melbourne at least. @Komdotkom has one that should be in good enough condition to be usable. I don't think it's in a for sale thread, you'd have to message him. @redzedhas one that definitely needs a rebuild.
    • I used to love going to Amaroo to watch the HQ series go for broke (eventually stopped due to lack of spare parts) and also the Porsche series.  It was so cool to back your car up to nearly the edge of the viewing barrier and party with your friends, having a bbq and alcoholic/non drinks. It was such a family/mates atmosphere
