Im not to concerned with the "look" but more so for insurance purposes.

I was under the impression you didnt cut your bonnet once you shaved your twin turbo badge, i guess swapping to -10s are also a no go now lol

cutting the bonnet would not affect your insurance policy.

i cut the bonnet bracing to clear the intake pipe & the twin badge was just touching the bonnet skin so i took the badge off & ground off the boss & now has about 10mm clearance, looks nicer without it as well

the -10s im pretty sure at the same height as the stock turbos

Ok you two that's enough spamming my build thread :pirate:

Now onto the good news, I BROUGHT HER HOME TODAY!!@!! :)

After a bit over 6 months it really is like driving the car for the first time. I only drove it maybe 6 times before the big end on number 1 had a sad. Yep, pulled the bottom end off the old girl this arvo for a look. in shorts, just number 1 big end had some meat taken out of it, well that sounds a bit dramtic, it had the indications of a little degredation of the bearing. The rest are fine. Crank is fine :) Old sump even has trap doors  - pity that's not on the new engine :(

Anyway for all you doubters and others' that thought it's not possible to have the 3 litre in the engine bay without cutting stuff, here a few pics to show it can be done. :) I LOVE the fact it looks stock, other than the pods which will be enclosed soon enough.

Here's a long shot to show there's now photo trickery

IMG_0179.jpg

Was really nice driving her again, it's a bit stiffer than i remember ;)

Has a few minor issues, for some reason the "anit-lock" amber light comes on after around 20 seconds and stays on. Had the hicas light come on after about 20 minutes. So i stopped and checked for obvious things- nothing so started her up and kept going. The ignition off/on seemed to "fix" it and it didn't come on for the remaining 15 minutes home.

Timing is terrible. It's the 26 tune, man its retarded, probably a little too much, a real cop to drive, i should take it to my tuner to add some timing as it's a bit of a shit at the moment, car also over heated once i got to the top of my driveway ( it's 800metres long all up hill and a elevation change of ~600m. No I'm not kidding!!)

So far she's done around 59km home plus the running in i did on the dyno. Already did a oil/filter change- still on run-in oil. Had a few bits in the filter which we cut open, no too concerning but i'll see how the next one goes in around 500km. Ill swap it over to a semi synthetic then for a few thousand km before going fully sik, i mean synthetic :D

Let the games begin

Well for some reason it won't let me post larger pics?? I tried it on preview with the original &l larger but they all turn out the same?

oh well, you'll just have too look hard i guess

Alright I'll start the ball rolling with the obvious question:

So! How did you get the motor to fit? I will gladly pay one carton of beer (of your choice) for this information in detail!

Only 1 carton? You'll have to do better than that

I will say that the cross member is intact, it was not cut and re-welded :D

Shame the pics are small :(

good work mate. it looks great. so are you saying it has a bearing issue on number 1 big end? or it did when it was a rb26?

Ah, just re-read what i wrote and i can see why you've asked that. I wasn't clear, OLD RB26 had number 1 big end problem. NEW engine is fine :D just a cop (don't know where"cop" came from in my above post)(wow just previewed my post and whenever the "oink" animal is written it turns to cop) :P to drive due to the timing. Only about 29 degrees @ cruise

What are you guys using for base timing? 15, 20degrees?

u must have elongated the engine mount holes & dropped the engine?

I've previously said i'd modded the engine mounts to lower the car ~3mm clearance from the cross member Marko

That alone won't make the twin turbo pipe clear as you guys already know

I didn't think about what i wrote last night, was a bit excited. The car didn't over heat coming up the driveway, the temp did get a little high and when i turned the car off, after a minute or so she was dumping water into the overflow. i checked the temps and the it was 106 on the P,FC.

Would like the thank Mick & the boys @ Signature Performance for the install and the stock appearance :P

Ahhh. So you cut and re-welded the sump to make more room?? And then drilled the engine mounts to lower it?

From the pics it also looks like you've lowered the twin-turbo pipe perhaps..

Hmm... 1 carton plus a 6-pack?

Now you're starting to think....but no.

Sump is standard depth, much bigger though, 8 litres :(

Great thread..

Looking forward to seeing the S14 in action again

at timeattack. Are you tempted to get the gtr out there

for a run?

Hi Duncan!

S13 currently has the engine out, not sure about to investigate but block may need decking. I thought i had cracked it but now that doesn't seem the case. Will know shortly. I plan to be at Ruziks time attack but i may miss the first one. Still got some things to work out with the GTR.

Track the GTR not likely, it may see Lakeside once, if i can't get the Sil80 under the 95dB. But no, it's just a street car, one that's soon to be with lots of torque :(

Excuse the typo,

yours is the purple S13 from memory yeah?!?!

hope its nothing too major with regard to the block.

My mates and i will be trying to do all of Pauls days this year,

I know the Evo will be up to it, just hope the same for the gtr.

Im really looking forward to the lakeside rounds too.

Will definately have to come over and say hi.

cheers and good luck with finishing off the torque monster!

I can't wait to get back out there, i've set myself the goal of a 55.xx lap this year, confident the aero mods will help me get there...

55's now thats getting very serious!! :)

I have set a goal of a 56 something this year in the gtr,

Should be a bit easier in cooler months! Without a cage i think thats

about as quick as i am comfortable going! Going to give high boost a go for the

first time in feb and see how close we can go!

Good luck on the 55's! hope im there to see that.

Ok! I think I've nailed it this time!.............

You didn't lower the motor at all! You raised the bonnet!! ....and the guards....! .......and er, the doors - which would then lead around the boot - so you must have raised that too I suspect... yesssssss.... that's it I think.....

No one doesn't not call me a lateral thinker..! (!)

...I'm up to a Carton and half now...
