Silicone Hoses

Recommended Posts

hi guys,

not sure if i should upgrade my heater hose kit & radiator hose kit with silicon & possibly even do the hard pipe kit for my gtr whilst the engine is out.

ive come across these 2 companies on ebay:

http://www.silicone-hose.net/

http://www.asiperformance.com/

does anyone have experience with these guys?

Considering all the hoses on and around your engine are probably the best part of 20 years old its certainly worth doing. Some of the hoses around the back of the engine are a bitch to change with the engine in the car.

In terms of purchasing on ebay though, why bother when traders on this very forum offer both those kits at very competitive prices.

Have a good search/read before you go a hard pipe kit.

Especially with compressor surge and so on. The stock piping actually helps reduce it all.

Hard piping can make the problem more noticeable in certain circumstances.

Honestly, i'd just replace all the hoses under the plenum/around the back of the motor and so on and leave it at that.

If the hoses you have now are OK, dont change (exactly what i did)

thanks for the advice as 1 of my main concerns was surge - i'll definitely forget about the hard pipe (crossed that off the list)

my existing hoses are actually in good condition as well :) 50/50 about upgrading the hoses, it is good insurance though

If they are in good nick - leave them is my vote

But no arguments over changing the water hoses and so on around the motor while its out.

Im glad i did mine as when i removed them i found they were fairly perished on the inside and so on.

If 6 months down the track i sprung a leak i wouldnt have been happy :)

I would definitely do as many heater hoses as you can, and wish i did when my engine was out. I've had 3 hoses go on me in the past year,

also can be a real pain in the ass to get to some of them.

One other thing, get good quality silicon hoses. The cheaper ones don't last.

i made my purchase today, gtr has to be the most challenging engine bay ive ever worked on and ive had over 15 cars to date

i miss the simplicity of working on my motorbikes, pull up a milk crate and have a drink at the same time
