Hi guys,

Im just curious, I own a 1997 series 2 R33 GTS25T and it came from the factory without a rear wiper. I dont mean it was taken off with the hole plugged up in the glass, it was optioned without it from the factory and even the washer bottle in the engine bay has only one water pump instead of two. I just want to know how common this is......How many of you guys own a R33 that left the factory like this ??

Cheers

I think majority of ppl on here with R33 GTS-T's have rear windscreen wipers.

I always thought it was standard from factory, unless its a R33 GTR N1 model as they do not come with rear wipers.

The previous owner in Japan probably did not want the rear wiper...

It's rare but possible.

Most people just take them off, it's only one bolt. Drove one on the weekend without one on there and the rear windscreen was all foggy and icey... that sucked...

It does look better, but it's such a small thing that I don't personally think it's worth it...

mine didn't come with one either...

it definitely was the way it came from factory, since there are no water lines and the rear windscreen glass definitely had no hole or anything...

rear wiper was optional for 01/96~02/97 gts25t type M spec I models, they're standard on spec II, and became standard across all gts25t type M for post 02/97 models

i like the rear wiper. jdmness plus it actually helps on foggy days and rainey days. love the rear wiper. if i bought a skyline without one i would source one out and put it back on.

Well put. One of the most practical bits on the car :D

I dnt think their ugly. makes the car look more equiped. better

I cant understand why so many new cars dont have them, it should be illegal not to have them cos u NEED to see out your back window at all times.

specially if theres a cop behind you and you feel like overtaking that nana infront of you

Yep, this R33 here is definitely factory-optioned without a rear wiper and now we know they DO exist........but not common at all.

It indeed looks cleaner and smoother without one.....How many REAL sportscars have a ugly rear wiper ? Only Honda Civics and Toyota Corollas should have a rear wiper..... Nothing personal towards any of you guys that were unfortunate enough to cop one on their Skyline, we know it doesnt make it any less sportier hahaha.

Oh yeah, I got a story for all the people that 'likes' the rear wiper.....Hmmmm.....

I once knew this gronk, a total idiot.... He tripped over one day in front of the local shops, in front of all the popular chicks etc and made a total clown of himself, but you know what his reaction was when he got up ? 'Oh, I meant to go down there to see what dirt tastes like..... I meant to do it'

Its okay guys, it's okay to admit that you HATE that ugly excuse for the dead weight that ruins the smooth lines on the back of your beautiful Skyline....Dont be ashame !! Im sure the Prince designers at Nissan that was responsible for it got a bullet between their eyes for it. However, I have more respect for the guys that admit that they hate it, ripped the bastard off and plug the glass up with one of those Ebay rubber plugs.

HAHAHAHA Only kidding fellas. I love stirrin

As for the people that claims how useful the rear wipers are....... IS IT THAT MUCH OF A CHORE TO GET YA ASS OUT THERE AND WIPE THE REAR WINDOW ???? OR EVEN MORE, DONT YOU WASH YOUR CAR YA LAZY FLUCKS ? LOL

WOW That means we both belong to a very very special group !!! LOL I reckon we could start the www.R33WithoutAnUglyRearWiper.com forum just dedicated for our unique breed......

I remember the very first night after I picked up my R33 from Japlink back in 2004, heart still pumping after living the best day of my life yet, lying in bed, thinking 'F*ck....what am I gonna do with that great big hole in the glass when I piss that ugly rear wiper off in the morning ??' Then when I got out there the next morning, I almost pass-out in joy ! hahaha One good turn deserves another ... one happy day followed by an even happier one ! I guess you just had to be there..... :)

i dont hate it. i dont care really. its useful for me and isnt that big a deal in the looks side.

from what you say, you are willing to pull over and wipe your rear windscreen every 30 or so secs, in the rain? if you are, pm me your address and i'll post you a cookie. no joke. btw, skylines arent "real" sports cars. iirc, they are based off a sedan chassis right?

:)

As a matter of fact, I dont look out my rear windscreen at all because all I see when I do is that great big GTR spoiler blocking the view..... But from what you say, it seems like you've got your gearbox permanently stuck in 'reverse' if you need to look out your rear windscreen so often. ;)

they fit on R32 R33 R34 and everything in between eg gtr gts gts-t blah blah blah

LOL yeah the spec Is aren't common.. since they didnt come with stereo system from factory either so i dont think it was a popular model back then, unless it was for performance shops wanting to build a GTST race car, but they've got the GTR for that purpose so its only logical that the type M spec Is were killed off from the range and type M spec IIs just became the standard type M...

all my previous cars had rear wipers except this R33 now.. old R32 R33 skylines and toyota AE111.. but i almost never use the rear wiper since the rear windscreen never gets enough rain to block my view, doesnt matter how bad the rainfall is. simply because we drive forward so the front windscreen catches a lot more rain than the rear... hence it didnt bother me when i found out my current r33 didnt have one either when i bought it.

    • Then, shorten them by 1cm, drop the car back down and have a visual look (or even better, use a spirit level across the wheel to see if you have less camber than before. You still want something like 1.5 for road use. Alternatively, if you have adjustable rear ride height (I assume you do if you have extreme camber wear), raise the suspension back to standard height until you can get it all aligned properly. Finally, keep in mind that wear on the inside of the tyre can be for incorrect toe, not just camber
    • I know I have to get a wheel alignment but until then I just need to bring the rear tyres in a bit they're wearing to the belt on the inside and brand new on the outside edge. I did shorten the arms a bit but got it wrong now after a few klms the Slip and VDC lights come on. I'd just like to get it to a point where I can drive for another week or two before getting an alignment. I've had to pay a lot of other stuff recently so doing it myself is my only option
    • You just need a wheel alignment after, so just set them to the same as current and drive to the shop. As there are 2 upper links it may also be worth adding adjustable upper front links at the same time; these reduce bump steer when you move the camber (note that setting those correctly takes a lot longer as you have to recheck the camber at each length of the toe arm, through a range of movement, so you could just ignore that unless the handling becomes unpredictable)
    • I got adjustable after market rear camber arm to replace the stock one's because got sick of having to buy new rear tyres every few months. Can anyone please let me know what the best adjustment length would be. I don't have the old ones anymore to get measurements. I'm guessing the stock measurement minus a few mm would do it. Please any help on replacing them would be fantastic I've watched the YouTube clips but no-one talks about how long to set the camber arm to.
    • Heh. I copied the link to the video direct, instead of the thread I mentioned. But the video is the main value content anyway. Otherwise, yes, in Europe, surely you'd be expected to buy local. Being whichever flavour of Michelin, Continental or Pirelli suits your usage model.
