Recommended Posts

Hi guys

i just bought a skyline 1989 r32 gtst.

one of my mates is saying that its a type M because of the bigger break caliper at the front and its a five stud.

but my cousin took it for a spin today and said it was a gts-4!

i just wondering how do i check what type it is?

post your VIN number (from the firewall or blue compliance plate as per the first post) in this thread, and someone should be able to help you out.

Hey Toan!

I see you found your way over here. Good bunch of guys.... well most of them are. :P

You'll need to join the club and become a paid member. You get to participate in heaps of cool stuff and get discounts by the club sponsors. Post up some pics.

It does sound like a GTS-4 btw

So you bought a 32 and nobody mentioned it was a gts4 when you bought it, there is a fair bit of difference between a gts4 and a pov pack gtst, i would also assume the price has a decent difference between the 2.

Yea post your VIN i can FAST it for you

Torque gauge = GTS-4. Unless they did a cluster swap at some stage, and the gauge is disconnected. Still the only reason to do this would be to rip you off with lower KM's, or because of major accident damage.

With a gts-4, you'll struggle to beat a gts-t off the line (unless it's wet) but you'll stick in corners like nobodies business (provided you spend the $ on tyres. Number 1 priority)

m specs have sunroofs

1. That is wrong

2. They are reffered to as "Type M"

pov pack gtst?? A gts4 has a heavy 4wd system which, with its rb20 engine it is not able to make use of. I would pay more for a gtst than a gts4 any day.

well GTS4 will be awd so look at the front Wheel and see if there is a drive shaft

m specs have sunroofs!!!im not 100% so but hope it helps!!

Nearly every r32 gtst/4 is a typeM. It is quite rare to find one which isnt.

The best way to tell is the 4pot calipers on the front.

lol what a load of rubbish. Please back up any statements with proof...

There is barely a difference in price too, due to the extra weight from the awd system it doesnt give them a great advantage over a gtst

guages, sunroofs, brakes????? I bet gts4's also had different wheels, better check them cause nobody changes wheels......

You will never be truly sure until you see the driveshafts to the front hubs so may as well start there

thanks for all the replies guys!

i have a gts4! mate of mine said i have the drive shat at the front too!

but the thing is i have the bigger brake calipers at the front. Previous owner must have done a swap?

i got the car for cheap on road too so im happy!

Im assuming the gts4 is the same as a 32 gtr, in a 32 gtr you can remove a fuse and make it rwd, maybe that has been done to by pass a problem with the awd system.

Also from what i have researched the gts4 is non turbo, does yours have a turbo?

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
