Ive owned my car for nearly a year now and thought the one option it doesn't have that most Jap cars have is the switch to make the mirrors fold in... then the other day the misses was out in my car, she was playing around adjusting the mirrors, hit a tiny switch above the directional mirror controls and the mirrors folded in!!

Just thought id share as theres probably many other people out their that didnt know the Stagea has this feature :D

It's another one of those features that makes you realise how pov Aussie cars were at the time compared to what their JDM counterparts were coming out with back in 97-99. My Stag had it too, was good for the multi-story car parks here in Newy. :D

All stags have them :D

I want to work out a relay on lock they fold in and unlock out they come would be sweet!

Yeah, I think a majority of Japanes cars had them fitted, due to the space constraints in Japan.

That would be cool setting them up like that. I never use mine as my passenger side mirror sticks about half-way when it's folding back out again, and if I don't have someone in the car with me, it's hard to operate the switch and give the mirror a helping nudge at the same time.

Nick pull the mirror off (3 screws underneath) and give everything you can see a spray of wd40 or crc or something along those lines should help it out a bit.

Yep, been thinking about doing this for ages, Chris, it's just a matter of me getting off my lazy arse to do it.

Now that I've got my O2 sensor here, I should do it while I'm actually out spending time working on the car.

My ones fold in on lock and out on key in ignition switched to acc...

the fold switch has 3 settings

Manual Fold In (switch to the left)

Do Nothing (switch to centre)

Manual Fold Out (switch to right)

now if i leave my switch to the right, when i lock the car with the remote, the mirrors will fold in.

when i unlock the door, the mirrors stay in

when i put my key into ignition and turn to acc(first click) mirrors will fold out.

Not to mention some features Nissan had in 1984 that the Stagea does not have.

1 No reo on the dash lights

2 The feature that let you wind up the elec windows after the key was turned off, without putting the keyback in and turning it on. It was this feature that convinced me to buy my first RMR30.Ti.

SERIOUS!?

Rip apart the arm rest and see whats going on in their for us then :P

the rheostat is a curious one

the feature to wind up after the ignition is switched off is there but only for the driver's door

i also noticed if i just flpi the door lock manualy before closing the door, the mirrors also fold in, must be something to do with the door lock motor controller

What will happen is that once the stock ECU sees more airflow than it expects it will add a heap of fuel and pull a heap of timing to be safe because it can't understand how it could get that much air without there being an issue. You will see clouds of black smoke and it won't pull hard through the midrange and top end. So, overall it will be a bit frustrating but should be OK. If you are still nervous set the base timing back 2o through the CAS, but it will be even more sluggish everywhere. As said above through...this is not my guarantee your engine won't be blown into a million pieces, leaving you looking for very hard to find parts A better idea is get a computer with logging ASAP, wire in a wide band O2 sensor and a use remote tuner. I've done multiple cars this way and while it is not as good as a specific tune on a dyno they can get it 90% right. I'd suggest if you can afford an R33 GTR these days you can afford an ECU and tune. And if you can't afford that you sure won't be able to afford the rebuild if it goes bad in the meantime,.
    • Yeah it would be nice if someone took the time to put that sort of information together, but there are a lot of variations in looms. I think you are making this way hard for yourself if you just want to get it running....sourcing an SR20 with the right wiring will be a billion times easier than matching the RB loom to an S15 chassis. If you do end up going this way, you just need to trace every wire in the loom with a multimeter, 95% of them will go to a location you can confirm at the ECU.....and then post it up for the next person who needs it
    • Just top it up with water, and keep a general idea of how much you added. It is normal for water to be pushed into and pulled out of the reservoir through the cap, and it should not be more than half full or it will be likely to overflow when hot. Any decent mechanic can do a pressure test of the cooling system to confirm if you have a leak. Keep in mind if it is only leaking a little and when hot it may well evaporate before you see it hit the ground
    • I'd ask the shop what they used and use that. Mixing coolants is sometimes OK, sometimes not, and you have know the details of each coolant to know whether it's a good idea or not.
    • Is it alright to top up with just another green coolant?
