hey everyone, i am new to this forum and i was hoping i could get some advice

i recently got a r33 gts25, and no it doesn't have a turbo :P

Anyway i was just wondering what are the best ways to gain performance without a turbo. And how much am i looking at spending, the car is stock standard right down to the bare bone, nothing has been modified.

any advice would be appreciated

hey dude, this has been covered heaps! take the time to sort back though all the threads in this naturally aspirated forum, or do a search and you will find that extractors, exhaust, cams, safc are recommended. happy reading, hope to see you on a cruise some day :P

just make it a nice car, they are quick enuff as they are - stuff the turbo 33 owners and their comments on how slow NA cars are. Lower it, good mags, good exhaust system, cold air induction this should be sweet cos u wont be using alot of petrol and you wont have problems! if u are going for the track then maybe yeah spend abit on the engine, but for a daily driver spend more on luxuries and style cos on the road u dont need the performance, and dont worry NA skylines do beat lancers and commonwhores lol

agreed, definately not worth the gains unless ur going into more serious mods ei, cams, throttle body, port & polish but then the $$$ add up, the engine becomes unreliable and u may aswell buy a turbo.

oh okay, cool cool. well i guess first things first i gotta pay off the car lol

another 5 grand left to go, should be done by christmas, after that i can do what i can to it.

First things first tho i think i need new wheels, the stock wheels don't look all that nice

chipping it is definatly worth it !

there are many ways to get the chip effect, without pay loads of money for un-needed expensive ecu's.

2nd hand apex'i SAFC's are very good value imo. for the mods, your are making it breath better, and you will be fine. The car has an awesome engine and exhaust note, with screaming top end.

welcome and enjoy.

okay thanks for that, i'll have to look into it and do some more research.

By the way, i was just wondering, what type of fuel everyone is putting into there skylines. i always use synergy 8000, is optimax or Bp's ultimate fuel better or worse. or is there even a diff?

i use premium unleaded, which is about 95 octane. Sometimes i use synergy8000, bp ultimate but i find that some petrol stations mark up the 98 octane fuels in price too much.

never use ULP, but that is my opinion only.

the difference between each of the 98 octane fuel is, the sort of additves the company mixes to the petrol to increase the octane. Best thing to do is, do a search of local petrol stations, test each place out for a couple of tanks, you will find some fuels are better then others.

the quality can be largly affected by how dodgy a particular station is etc..

one of my friends actually pumped the normal green unleaded one at BP one night by mistake while i ran in to take a piss.

i normally pump BP ultimate... and the car was feeling noticeably sluggish after that...till the next tank of fuel.

been driving my NA for abt 6 - 8 mnths now and i want more power...after looking and looking, finally my mechanic gave me an estimate of around 8k give or take abit for 300 or more if i dare to boost it up at the wheels with forged internals, GT30 turbo and etc etc...

if yr really yearning for speed, most ppl will tell u to SELL yr car and buy a turbo.

the fkin payout figure for the finance is so damn big that you dont even get back yr deposit so how r ya supposed to sell yr car? heh... so i decided to add a T to the end of GTS.

8k seems reasonable i might think so if yr interested, i acn find out what parts are used and how much is charged for what.

:P

laters

i see...yea either ways, a car bought and sold early entails lost money...

it would prob cost more eventually to get the saame kinda power out...but i figure going down the street im taking might be the most convenient way

im not abt to go out and find a buyer. get a good price...convince some fktard thats interested in buying my car and yet wants to squeeze the best damn price outta me and then go and squeeze someone elsee to buy his car.

just to much hassle IMO. anyways, good luck w yr sale. :)

yr car looked prettie nice to me when we were in carousel.

;)

ooooooooh!

haha thanx i was pretty impressed with your n/a! had more power than i expected from an n/a

ive had my car for almost a year and hav 2 hav more power aswell! i thought about doing an engine swap awhile back but then decided it wasnt worth it and it would b cheaper just to get a GTST. If i did an engine swap id hav 2 change brakes, gearbox and id prob wanna get a 5stud conversion

but now ive decided 2 go for a R34GTT just because i want 2 b different and stand out from the hundreds of 33's in perth hopefully ill have one sumtime early next year:)

good luck with your engine build and keep us posted on how it goes:)

Hey everyone, well as i said last time i was putting my r33 on the dyno for a good old rest run, and the results werent as bad as i thought. in actualy fact i was quite impressed.

96.5 kw at the wheel, so basically thats around 144 kw from the motor, considering there are no mods to my car what so ever i would say its a pretty pleaseing result.

With cold air intake and a good exhaust plus extractors i am well on my way to putting it well over a 110-120 and thats not bad considering its running without a turbo :)

    • Hey keep the ideas coming, I'm always keen on projects! But, problem fixed!  I got a cheapie ozito scope from Bunnings and had a good look in and around the bearing and sensor hole. I couldn't see a smoking gun but the bearing looked a bit strange, especially when comparing with a new one. I thought the cover had come off the bearing magnets.  Sorry for pics of a screen, I didn't have an SD card.     Good thing I had the old one to inspect. So, given I'm like a pit crew with wheel bearings and luckily I had a spare bearing because I f**ked up my parts order, I decided to just smash it out. Got the old one out in about an hour. So much easier when the parts haven't had a chance to rust together yet. 😂 And, well, found the problem.    In the second pic at about the 8 o'clock position, you'll see what I think is the tip of the old sensor.  The new sensor has definitely been rubbing but it's all intact, just a little shiny so I'm hoping it's fine.  The car brakes perfectly now and no errors.  I think the job took about 2.5h in the end. 👍🏻 I really appreciate the help in here as usual. Thanks guys.
    • I was only looking because I saw some drops on the ground but it wasn't alot. Recently had it serviced will ask the mech to confirm. Find it strange that it looks standard though, can see in another photo of a random box
    • So...not sure if you know if that has always been there or why you went looking. It could be old damage from a clutch explosion, or even just the gearbox got dropped somewhere along the line. Basically, you should seal it up to stop oil and dust getting into the bellhousing, but it doesn't matter too much and is not structural. I'd suggest something like a glob of JB Weld. BTW what gearbox oil are you running, I would guess the breather has been spewing it everywhere.
    • Hey Duncan thanks for your reply. Sorry mate I know the photos are shit.  Took another photo for reference. Seems the casing does have a hole in it looking on the net, fluid seeping out. Added a photo
    • Very hard to make out what you mean, is it the squarish hole with redline shockproof (probably) under it? Is that pic from on top of the engine with the firewall to the left of pic and engine to the right? Either way, spray the area liberally with degreaser and try again, maybe circle the part you are worried about
