Ok so Just Jap has either "Splitfire Direct Ignition Coil Packs" for $695 or "JJR Direct Ignition Coil Packs" for $399 for sale.

Splitfire: http://justjap.com/store/product.php?produ...at=0&page=1

JJR: http://justjap.com/store/product.php?produ...at=0&page=1

Does anyone know the difference?

Has anyone experianced both or have any recomendations? Hard facts guys not just because you've got them.

I am making the assumption that cause they both say they can go on a R34 with the RB25 Neo they will be fine. Is this right?

I have a Series 2 RS FOUR S.

Thanks in Advance Guys n Girls. :D

yeah it's when you run big power, you use them as external coilpacks - i think from memory you only need to use 3 too as they are twin pulse or something

anyway, back on topic, get splitfires. end of story. don't bother with JJR rubish

you cant go wrong with splitfires, they are a proven brand. dont bother with the JJR ones, you get what you pay for. or you can run commodore/falcon coils, they are 3 coils in one block and each coil handles two cylinders "3/2 coils", do a search on wasted spark you'll find heaps of info. the only benefit is they are cheaper to replace if they burn out/blow up.

it isn't always better running the wasted spark commodore/falcon coils over splitfires. i remember a write up on this testing all different coil pack setups, and the power that the stock 3/2 coils output, while they had higher MJ power per coil than the direct ignition coils, that power is shared between two spark plugs so it worked out less MJ per plug than running a good direct ignition or even 6 single coil setup.

Hi,

I dont mean to hijack this thread but i also am wondering what coil packs are available for the M35....... No one seems to want to help and i feel mine will be due for replacement soon( some surge and miss at high rpm) I was hoping to change them when i do the plugs as they are in a bastard of a place on the VQ..

Cheers

I can't answer your question as to which aftermarket pack is best (Performance-wise also have 'Yellow Jacket' coils available - they could be another option), but the question begs asking - why do you want to replace what you've got?

Do you have a confirmed fault, or have you been drawn into the false belief that the factory coils are no good?

Curious minds want to know...

Dunno mate. I have looked (briefly), but not found anything for M35.

Perhaps a VQ35 set would work? There would have to be some out there for V35 or Z33!

Ben i am getting a tiny bit of surge...wether is me being over sensitive to the car or an actual miss is another thing. :P

But also they're 9 year old packs. So its also simply a preventative measure. I'm planning future mods so having packs that i know are deffinatly up to standard will be a weight of my mind. (I'm also going to change the plugs at the same time)

So by the looks of it I'll go for the Splitfire ones. Just did a bunch of overtime this week at work so that will pay for them nicely. :P

I was kinda thinking that the whole "You get what you paid for" thing would apply in this case but still wanted to put the question out there.

Thanks all. I'll let everyone know if i see a difference when i get them.

A bit of topic. Am I the only one who is perhaps over sensitive to the sounds and vibrations from my car, or are there others in my boat. What I mean is when ur driving and u hear a noise or feel a vibration that u may not have felt or heard before, and worry that its a bad noise or vibration. :P

yeah i do at first, but then a quick turn of the volume knob on the cd player makes those noises go away :P if the noises get louder then so does the cd player lol

  • 3 months later...

Hmm, neither JJR or Yellow Jacket make coils to suit NEO engines yet. So that means that the only coilpack options available to series 2 owners are OEM Nissan coilpacks (not REALLLY an option, in my case at least, at $1000+) or Splitfires.

...or chop up your $200 coilpack harness and wire in different coils...

can someone suggest any other solutions for S2 owners?

Anything that fits the r34 rb25neo will fit C34 rb25neo apart from sump and im pretty sure the block is different down the bottom cause of the all wheel drive.

As for coil packs. Im running splitfires and as far as im concerned they are the way to go. i wouldnt waist my time with any cheaper options, they are proven to work the best and you get what you pay for.

SPLIT FIRES all the way !!!

    • Hello, sorry for being late to join the discussion, but my clock just died on me.   Ive tried to look at Michaels digital clock repair.docx and it doesnt work maybe the file has expired.   Please let me know if you can re upload it or take some youtube videos to show us how to get the clock installed? thanks
    • I thought that might be the case, thats what I'll start saving for. Thanks for the info
    • Ps i found the below forum and it seems to be the same scenario Im dealing with. Going to check my ECU coolant temp wire tomorrow    From NICOclub forum: s1 RB25det flooding at start up Thu Apr 11, 2013 7:23 am I am completely lost on this. Car ran perfectly fine when I parked it at the end of the year. I took the engine out and painted the engine bay, and put a fuel cell with an inline walbro 255 instead of the in tank unit I had last year. After reinstalling everything, the engine floods when the fuel pump primes. if i pull the fuel pump fuse it'll start, and as soon as I put the fuse back in it starts running ridiculously rich. I checked the tps voltage, and its fine. Cleaned the maf as it had some dust from sitting on a shelf all winter, fuel pressure is correct while running, but wont fire until there is less than 5psi in the lines. The fuel lines are run correctly. I have found a few threads with the same problem but no actual explanation of what fixed it, the threads just ended. Any help would be appreciated. Rb25det s1 walbro255 fuel pump nismo fpr holset hx35 turbo fmic 3" exhaust freddy intake manifold q45tb q45 maf   Re: s1 RB25det flooding at start up Fri Apr 12, 2013 5:07 am No, I didn't. I found the problem though. There was a break in one of the ecu coolant temp sensor wires. Once it was repaired it fired right up with no problems. I would have never thought a non working coolant temp sensor would have caused such an issue.
    • Hi sorry late reply I didnt get a chance to take any pics (my mechanics on the other side of the city) but the plugs were fouled from being too rich. I noticed the MAF wasn't genuine, so I replaced it with a genuine green label unit. I also swapped in a different ignitor, but the issue remains. I've narrowed it down a bit now: - If I unplug and reconnect the fuel lines and install fresh spark plugs, the car starts right up and runs perfectly. Took it around the block with no issues - As soon as I shut it off and try to restart, it won't start again - Fuel pressure while cranking is steady around 40 psi, injectors have good spray, return line is clear, and the FPR vacuum is working. It just seems like it's getting flooded after the first start I unplugged coolant sensors to see if its related to ECU flooding but that didnt make a difference. Im thinking its related to this because this issue only started happening after fixing coolant leaks and replacing the bottom part of the stock manifolds coolant pipe. My mechanic took off the inlet to get to get to do these repairs. My mechanics actually just an old mate who's retired now so ill be taking it to a different mechanic who i know has exp with RBs to see if they find anything. If you have any ideas please send em lll give it a try. Ive tried other things like swapping the injectors, fuel rail, different fuel pressure regs, different ignitor, spark plugs, comp test and MAF but the same issue persists.
