Hi All! Im Mitch, Im rather new to the whole skyline ownership. I've Been a Magna/Prelude Driver for the last 4 or so years. I've Owned my Skyline for a little while now, All though I love the car. It just seems not to be as powerful as I hoped. I was not hoping for nothing major. But something with some scoot about it.

I got the car back from the dyno, and it Only made 118Kw at the wheels. And it also does not feel to have the pick up as I would expect. I was wonder if this is due to a REALLY bad tune, or something else. I'm hoping that someone would be able to point me in the right way. To get it up too something more respectful.

The Car is still rather stock, except the 3in exhaust, and the HKS style Pod filter on it. It also Has a Boost controller, but It has stopped turning on :D. Some Info on that would be awesome! Its a Greddy Profec B spec 2 item.

Thanks in Advanced

Mitchie!

OH! its a RB25DET R33 GTS-T 1.5 Model...

Stock cars with no mods pull anything b/w 150 to 160 rwkw.

I'd say theres something seriously wrong:

1) Turbo might b e screwed

2) CAS might be screwed or the cam gear has been edged back a knob so u have much too retarded timing throughout the rev range

3) Worst case scenario is low compression in 1 or some of ur cylinders

The Boost controller died on me today. Never had an issue with it, till today. Im not really sure on why though.

It does run a little Rich. The bloke who did my Dyno, does not really know much about skylines. He is a nice fella though. And the only one with a Dyno in tammy.

On higher Boost I can hear a Ticking. It's not there atm. But in the past it was there. It does Rev Clean without a issue. just feels like nothing much is happening.

Besides saying its Rich, and not a Power house. He said very little. Anymore Ideas would be grate, You been very helpful.

Thanks!!!

Mitchie

Find a good workshop that deal with skylines (Check the States forum) in your state and take the car there and explain your situation (get compression test done, check spark plugs, clean AFM etc).

How much was the boost wound up to when you brought it, and does your car have an aftermarket ECU or some sort of thing like a SAFC to deal with A/F ratios?

I would start by putting the ECU in diagnostic mode and find any error codes (PDF service manual is all the internet) and start from there.

To me it sounds like your turbo lost it's compressor wheel (quite common for ceramic type wheels to let go when boost is wounded high)

Oh God, Im in the same boat and my tuner told me it was just a real bad tune.. I just got a tuned ecu and im dyno'ing on wednesday, wanna see if it makes any more power

When I forst got the car, it was running the stock boost. 7Psi I believe that is? It did have the boost Controller, but it was not conected. I have the PDF manual printed out in a Binder now :D I'll check the ECU tomorrow for the error codes. Code 55 Means all clear I remember correctly. 45 for the Ca18.

the car still has the orignal ECU, with no piggy backs. whats the chances of a screwy ECU?

Is there a way for to check the Turbo for any damage without removing it from my car?

man, there is no telling with skylines. unless you have their full import history, you have no idea what has been done to them since importation. My car had issues , majorly, so i ended up rebuilding the engine and remapping the ecu to get it right.lf i were you, I'd invest in a power fc or another tunable ecu.

pm sent too

Hmmmm I've been looking at the Power Fc units. Seems like a popular choice. Also a Good unit. Ben you have to lets us know how your car goes on Wednesday, Im rather interested to see how that turns out for you!

I really want to get this car going. It is rather nice looking in person. Gets lots of stares, and I get people walking up to me asking me about. The Bright Yellow Paint work helps there I think :D

yyep wil let u kno how the dyno run,,hoping for 200kw..big jump from wat it is now lol,, well my car is fast,,,got lots of torque but not kw, i just wana see how much of a difference it makes on the dynolog

Yeah that kw reading does sound pretty low, you should also check your CAT and see if its still ok, sometimes they break and bloke up. I also cleaned the stock intercooler out on my R33 as it had oil in it. A good work shop should be able to work it out pretty quick :D Hope its a easy fix! The difference from what your running now will be huge! lol

The Ticking noise sounds more the clicking pen. that got louder when the it went up the tacho. But it was only around the 5,000Rpm mark. The timing on my car has been advanced, only a little though. It does not also make the ticking noise ATM though.

to all you guys thinking its tune related - it has a STOCK ECU

How can it possibly be a bad tune? You need aftermarket ECU/software for thatt to be possible.

Mitch - get the dyno sheet and post it up.

One with a AFR vs RPM, and one with Boost vs RPM

That will be the best start.

Stock-ish skylines will make 130-150rwkw, so its not totally 'bad' in my book, every dyno is different. However you need to post up the dyno sheets, that might tell a better story

    • Nah. Was just wondering if you were having a small stroke or if there was some slur/gaf/inside joke that I wasn't aware of.
    • That was a fark up, it's Salamanca Place I was thinking of. And now I'm curious as to what potential slur/gaf I have caused with Salamander Road, ha ha!
    • Actually everyone on the roads was really well behaved. The only person that did any minor tailgating was a local hoon in a Turbo Focus. Unfortunately we weren't going the same way so there was no grand initial D touge battle. Lots of people pulled over and let me through. The amount of "Hey man nice car, omg skyline, nice 34 man woo" was suprising. Like really suprising. Like almost annoying. My partner was obviously surprised, she'd never seen anyone in the real world point out the car/like the car/want to chat about the car before, so to have like 3 people per day mention it was notable, I could finally say SEE? SOMEONE THINKS THEY'RE COOL. Everyone was also pretty suprised about the weather. Every day was dry and about ~13-14C. Mount Wellington had a sign that said they close the gates at 9pm and I was heading up there at about ~7:30. It was VERY apparent that conditions were getting significantly worse by the minute on the way up and down. The road on the mountain was terrible though, it's no driving road. I have various suspension related questions now. Luckily it was only about 20 minutes from where we were staying to the top of the mountain as said Google maps. We only had the 2 nights in Hobart. We went to the Farm Gate Market though which was really good - And went down to the Hastings Thermal springs/caves down there during the day. I'd definitely be up for going back again, so luckily there's a few more sights yet to see. Didn't get to do the west coast/queenstown/cradle mountain so this was supposed to be a 'scouting' trip anyway of sorts if I were to one day do/take part in/organize a more car-focused trip. As for the boat, it wasn't bad. Well it was bad, but not in the way you're thinking. We did the night trip which leaves at 6:45 (though you have to be there ~2 hours earlier) and arrives the next morning at about 6am. There is nothing to do on the ship. If you plan accordingly and bring a book/tablet/show to watch/charger you can just chill out, take some Travacalm and just sleep through it. The food there is an extremely basic buffet that costs $32 a plate, or $14 for a $3 pizza. The way back we had a travel kettle and a few different types of cup noodles and made our own tea/coffee in the room. This was a far superior way to do it. At the very least book one of the rooms with beds. I guess as we were in the off season we didn't have room mates. You get an option for rooms with 4 beds (2x bunks) or a room with just the two bottom beds. There's also some option for a deluxe queen bed but it's much pricer. We've been on sleeper trains in Asia before so we figured this is similar (and it was)
    • You just gotta be really, really, really clear and decisive with what you want your end product to be. 99% of people who want this conversion aren't "I want to run a 295 front tyre!" so they don't really need the widebody. They just want the OEM body to look a little less dumpy, so bonnet, bar, skirts job done with some camber, stretch, slam. It's when you want that, but then decide to pivot later you get big problems. See also if you're willing to get an all in one fibreglass bar, and you're willing to accept fibreglass problems like cracking the entire item on a driveway, instead of just a piece attached to the bottom, etc etc etc. Decide this all before buyin'.
