... becuase the R35 is a genuine exotic looking supercar. I always admired the R32-34, fantastic cars, I'd love to have one if I had between $30-50K to spend, but you'd never call them true exotics...but the R35 REALLY looks everybit a $160K exotic supercar :) ....unlike the black HSV W427 I saw sitting in Nissan Australia headquarters on Tuesday! (my guess is HSV probably borrowed a GT-R to play with and they let Nissan have their $160K 'Clubsport')

I remember a reader for Top Gear Australia reader complaining that the annual supercar calender featured a HSV 427 and not a GT-R. TGA replied that the GT-R simply looks like a piece of crap and HSV looks the bizz! After seeing the HSv 427 which looks like an SS without a rear wing and possibly the worst looking tailights ever, it's apparent that TGA has taste well and truly imbedded up their arses. :) The reaction from the public obviously vinidcates the GT-R as genuinely horn looking piece of car porn.

Haha that was me that complained to TGA about their calender which also featured the Dodge Challenger and Viper in the same company as the Veyron,Lambo etc but no GT-R and then had a little email battle with the fool editor until he told me that he wins because Oz does produce one sub 5 second car in the W427.I replied that in my world supercars were sub 4sec and not shopping trolleys with added cubes and nasty plastic.Strangely he didn't reply and as I haven't bought the mag since have heard no more

I Find it funny how many people say "oh the GTR an't much of a looker, its pretty ugly when compared to other exotics".

But at the end of the day its a $175,000 car, looks better and more exotic than a BMW M3, far better than a Cayman S, doesn't look like a common as anything Porche 911 (turbo or non turbo, they all look the same).

People flog this car as ugly, then when people see it in real life they drool all over it. Its unapologetically Japanese and unapologetically Masculine. Those 2 things I love the most!

Should have pretended you were admiring the car aswell for a few minutes... and then say excuse me... and get in.. and drive off :)

- also while you're at it.. check the tyres... scratches etc.. brakes.. like you were just checking it out.

Yep no one yet has said to me when they see the car in the flesh that its ugly, they are all pretty much awestruck.I read recently that apart from being very slippery they were designed also to reflect Japanese culture and their love of animated monsters and the like so your have got to love that.I know I do.Got my GTR book from Nissan the other day and loved the description of the Blacked out A pillars creating a fighter jet-inspired "Aero-blade canopy" were as I think I read somewhere that Walkenshaw/HSV get their inspiration from Taxi Drivers Wish List Monthly. And just remember folks if Tom Walkinshaw has got anything to do with it it wont be good.

not a porka fan but both great looking cars. got a thing for silver ey? lol

bring the GTR to a cruise man. yet to see one up close. i havent touched one yet :P

  • 1 month later...
haha, I had a well dressed elderly lady at a private hospital car park in Brisbane stop me and remark 'I like your car young man'

not sure if she was being cheeky.....

haha, ur lucky last time an elderly women commented on my car was with rude sign language about my RX7 exhaust being too loud. Luckily my GT-R is a lot quieter then the 7 (until i have a full exhaust mod :P

Nice cars, not knocking the Cayman S, they get ripper reviews and my wife LOVES THEM! Its funny your Garage is exactly my wife and I's dream garage. She so badly wants a Cayman S. I'll probably buy her one next year, and I so wanted the R35. Least we got 1. now to get to work to pay for the 2nd.

Hey Barcode, small world!. Suffice to say that when my subscription renewel letter for TGA magazine arrived in my letter box a couple of weeks back ...it went stright into the re-cycle BIN....like the Automotive equivelant of 'Picture Magazine'

The most common I've had about the GT-R: "Looks way better in the metal than in pics". (Almost every time someone I know has seen it).

Chased down a black Aston DB9 the other week thinking it was my neighbour. Turns out it wasn't but as soon as I pulled alongside the guy winds his window down and asks if it's the new GTR. He them proceeds to tell me how he bought theAston for his missus because SHE likes the way they look and that he thinks the GT-R is "porn"! Thats something coming from a guy sitting in an aston with his missus in the drivers seat. He then goes on to say that he's not even gonna bother taking me on. Good thing considering we were in Hutt Street in the city! So I think that says it all about the auro the GT-R has on the street.

Hey Max_ST-R Happy to hear your recycling properly.Yea I got over TGA pretty quick as well and now into Unique Cars mag.Used to think it was just a cars for sale mag but its a whole lot more and in the current issue which is also their 300th there is an article on the R35 superbly written by "early adopter" Martin Donnan. You know owning an R35 and living in the same country as Martin D and Willall Racing makes me feel pretty comfortable that there is a serious world class developer right hear amongst us that I can and will turn to as soon as the very reason I was able to buy my R35 ie my job lets me put some k's on it ,and that's just from reading his input and checking out www.willallracing.com.au I seriously think Nissan Australia should let Willall Racing do log book servicing using Willall Racing knowledge and products.

Should have pretended you were admiring the car aswell for a few minutes... and then say excuse me... and get in.. and drive off

haha, that's a good idea. maybe i should do that next time

    • Before starting any work, we attempted to adjust the tune. However even after adjusting it to certain extremes like completely stopping fuel, it had no effect. What fixed it was removing the Nistune Board and installing the original EPROM instead. This immediately fixed the issue. Everything should have been fine with the Nistune Board installation, so I am unsure why it has caused a problem. The soldered connector is also properly soldered. This worked when I first got the 550cc injectors, before cleaning, but that may have been a coincidence.  We ended up not installing the fuel pump hanger (at least for now). So currently running stock injectors, stock fuel pump, stock fuel pump hanger – Well everything stock except the exhaust. Now I have around €1400 in Nistune, Injectors, and Hanger collecting dust for the time being, perhaps I'll install them in the future. For now I'll enjoy the car as is 😁 Thanks a lot for all your assistance, I really appreciate all the help you have given me.
    • The turbo can’t be the issue. They’re proven to make much much power than you’re making. There is something in the setup that isn’t correct. - has the exhaust got any silly step downs? - what exhaust manifold?
    • Ok, just the way you wrote it made it look like you had the stagger the wrong way around
    • I was getting anxious with the DVLA not knowing if the paperwork is fine or not, so I rang them. No update had been given, but I  was reassured that providing the box was ticked on the V750 then the application will go through fine. I've been checking the DVLA website pretty much every day, in the hope that it would have been done. Fast forward to Monday 29th  and I was greeted with a new screen on the check, and it finally showed as Taxed and MOT'd, woohoo! The car was in desperate need of a clean, not knowing when this day was coming it was put off. As far as I was concerned I had another 3 weeks  I'm not normally one for using snow foam, but I wanted to give it another try It hasn't cleaned up too bad considering it's 21 years old and lived on a boat for a number of weeks. The personalised number plate is J2 XBK, an illegally spaced number plate would have it read J2X BK. BK could either represent  the colour black or Baker, which is my surname. I filmed the first drive, the Youtube link will be at the end. I used the same driving route I did with the 323F V6 when I had a new exhaust installed, heres a couple of photos A few more since then Youtube video can be viewed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjkFHPzjGDw
