probably a belt slipping or something is vibrating because its not tight enough. does it happen when you free rev it?or only while youre moving?

if you can get someone to rev the car, you might get a better indication of where its coming from. i rekon exhaust or something simple like that. airbox, anything thats connected to the engine thats come loose slightly.

yup, something is loose, sounds like a harmonic resonance thats causing something to vibrate

is it metallic sounding?? might be a blown gasket too, but unlikely

hm.. not quite metailc but it sounds like sumthing rubbing against the chassis or sumthing at high speed

u can feel the vibration inside the cabin too

lol already did all that

yeah feel the vibration inside and hear it

and also the noise is there from outside too

checked all belts cuz of that i spend 1.3K on a full service staright after i got my car

but the noise was still there

im ruling out diff problems too cuz i changed the syncro and all that setting around and the noise was still there

it's gota be sumthing mechanical

I know that sound.

It started after my turbo was done, but only sometimes and under full boost (yep around 4k).

If I take my foot off the accelerator, the noise disappears. Then it says gone when I put my foot back down.

My mates RS is starting to do it (so he says, I haven't heard it).

It is not possible to replicate as it happens to me us at random times.

No Danny, I do not know what it is!

Thought it might be an oil supply prob to the turbo, nothing to do with belts

I am getting the same sound, and have done since i got the car about 2 months ago. hasn't gotten any worse tho, and doesn't happen alll the time. You're right about the rev thing - it happens to me at about 3 grand, only while pulling through torque at higher gears. if the auto kicks back, or I use manual mode, then it doesn't happen. feels like about 3rd or 4th gear. It's really hard to say the sound is consistant tho, I think it doesn't really happen all the time.

only under load

and no it doesnt get louder on speed

it's not constant..

only at 3-4K rpm only half thorttle then when i full throttle it it goes away

Sounds like Turbo time!!!....sounds sort of like a slipping clutch or a rattling sound?.....only under load? Is it there all the time? Does it do it under full throttle?

    • Mixing things up - installed some leather recaros to match the leather seat covered rear seats. Interior looks pretty schmick now except for some slight wear on the steering wheel which I will monitor and address if it becomes worse or actually noticeable!

    • I'm normally copping my own abuse from neglecting my daily drivers. "Those suspension bushes will last a bit more", "Don't worry about the oil leak, just keep topping it up". The project cars I'm always doing things slowly on them as I'm wanting them to be done better, and neater, and nicer. Luckily I don't have to deal with 18 year old Matt's "Learning to wire" stuff in the project cars. And there's only one piece of wiring I'm displeased about in the Landcruiser, and it's about to be cut out... However, the box loads of parts that have been going through this place lately for the Landcruiser... Brake pads Brake Rotors Full handbrake overhaul Wheel Bearings Seals Swivel hubs Steering Boxes Half the suspension joints Shocks Air bags (Ones to go in the rear springs for towing) Water pump Timing kit Lower timing case Harmonic Balancer Radiator Lots of other little seals and shits Gas struts for the bonnet New power window switches And god knows what else I've forgotten... Ha ha ha I have my fingers crossed the pinion seals don't start leaking on the diffs, that the transfer case doesn't leak, and the gearbox input shaft doesn't leak, nor the rear main seal. As they're about the only seals I haven't replaced in the driveline! I'm seriously eyeing off buying new caliper rebuild kits front and rear brake calipers... I'll probably recheck all the valve clearances soon too, and hopefully, it should be all good and sweet to haul some long distance trips again!
    • Every time I pull my 3x gauges out of the console and see the crack-addict way that I did the wiring, and I just can't bring myself to tear it all apart and "make it nice", because it is currently working. In fact, the last time I was in there I probably made it worse.
