Hey guys I have a 94 R33 gts-t auto and loving it and wanna change the coils ,as one is definately playing up, problem is its definatly a ser 1 R33 but seems to have ser 2 engine/ignition maybe swaped by previuos owner,

anyway how can i be sure? there is definatly no ignitor located on in near or around the coil loom, I have followed it back down the harness so I was thinking that if someone could post comfirmed ser1 or ser2 coil pic i could see which is mine ive searched this a bit now but nothing seems to get confirmed. I have learned from all my reading that im getting spiltfires Im lovin this forum cheers

Wow, that was quick. Front facing intake? Makes it a WHOLE lot easier. It's kinda hard to tell for me, but they look like series 1's to me. Pretty blurry pics though, and I've only seen series II a couple times before, so I'd wait on confirmation from somebody else. Have you though about trying to repair them? Their are several write ups, but the two main ways are a insulative coating and cleaning out the brass/aluminum contact under the boot/spring with a dremel or some sand paper or something. Try both :(

yea its just a std R33 with intercooler. I want the better coils just for piece of mind just a coincidence one failed today. hopefully i find out tonight so i can airbag some. cant belevie the mark up on these things loclaly $1150.00 fitted :(

It's not hard to "refurb" the coils if you want to just give that a shot, and they do go out ALL the time. Pull the little rubber boot off the bottom, twist the spring out careully as not to bend it (not that it really matters unless you really bugger it up). The stick a dremel or something down in there to clean out the crude until you see shiny metal. Might want to hit the top of the spring with the stone too. After you get it all back together, put several coats of "flexane" or something similar like silicone sealant or liquid electrical tape on the outside of the coil to help stop it from arching.

man i type slow 2 replies will im repling hehe

Get some yellow jackets coil packs and save even more money towards better tyres :D

Performance-wise has them on his site for about $380/set - www.performance-wise.com

Ive had a set of yellow jackets in my car for about 5 months now and they havent skipped a beat.

Plus they come with a 12 month warranty and wont melt like the super spark or JJR ones have been known to do.

:)

    • Hope you aren't too sore after that one, might take a day or 2 to notice yet and I guess it is a loooooong drive home. On the bright side, tube frame front end is a thing at superlap, right?

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
    • Yeah dunno why johhny posted that here with no context, just post on FB/insta bro where he put it up?  Laine had an off at T4 during Thurs prac, he's ok, car is less than perfect, they are done for the weekend, he can fill in the rest. Bando also binned it like 100m up the road.
    • I feel there must have been a FB/insta post and the weekend did not start well at all I hope everyone is all okay
