we were never promised the GTR, only the US was. according to ebgames.com.au which is where franga got the pic and info from above (post 373) we are getting the mercedes. but it is still a few months away so who knows what model we are actually going to get. i think we may find out more later this month after the europe games convention.

i'm going to get the australia collectors edition because it's only going to be $12 more than the base version and it comes with a little book to help with tuning of the cars and a few bonus cars. and besides it's only $12 more. i wouldn't be suprised if they have done the collectors edition like they have because it will be bundled with a console

just got a call from EB games where my preorder is. they tell me we are now getting the 'lame' collectors edition with no model car but it's cheap at about $130. signature is going to be $300. needless to say I switched my order to signature edition. yes I am a sucker for crap I don't need.....

mercs have not been a Gran turismo icon by Gran Turismo helped spread the word of the GTR to countries that never got to see any in the flesh. Having the latest GTR done up in GT livery as the model just makes sense. an AMG merc does not.

it's the 'IT' car of the moment (personally I reckon an SL65 Black is more interesting)

R35's are soooo 2008

This.

As always those "bonus cars" will more than likely be available to anyone who buy's the normal version of Gran Turismo by entering a code in-game... But we'll see.

  • 2 weeks later...

ok so gamescon is on at the moment and lots of info has come out. i will just give a quick summary. for more indepth go to http://www.gtplanet.net

1: japan is getting a bundle pack of gt5 (basic collectors edition) and a limited edition titanium blue console. release date for japan is nov 3

2: skidmarks

3: don't think there will be any car graphics editor

4: track editor is just that. it seems to be an editor rather than outright creator. you just sort tweak tracks

5: changing light and weather not on all tracks

on gt plantet they have videos from the new monza track as well as go-karting.

Yeah the track editor isn't a complete editor but:

Following months of speculation, Polyphony's Kazunori Yamauch finally unveiled Gran Turismo 5's track editor, known officially as the course maker.

Rather than being a fully featured editor – a feature that, Yamauchi confessed, was tinkered with but deemed to complex – the course maker allows players to select certain set parameters to create a track. A theme can be selected, with the Belgian High Fens or Toscana two examples, and the individual track sectors are then defined.

Sectors are edited individually, with frequency of curves, sharpness of corners, degree of topography and banking angle are set with a series of sliders.

Yamauchi created one for the purpose of the demo, a 10km run through the Belgian High Fens. It was sparse but not without sparkle, with rolling hills and fields and the occasional environmental feature like a small village giving it the feeling of a long and winding country road.

Karts were also confirmed for Gran Turismo 5, and Yamauchi revealed that originally this was a feature intended for Gran Turismo 6 – but after it leaked Polyphony decided to put it in this iteration.

We'll have full impressions of Gran Turismo 5 for you later today.

That was from the IGN report before it got taken down. Still sounds pretty good though :ermm:

And heres a gif from gtplanet showing the dust on the side of the track...looks good!

a little bit more on the track maker

The next big piece of news was, as first mooted by amar212 on GTP back at the start of 2009, the Course Maker. Kazunori pointed out that they didn’t call it a “Course Editor” simply because one is not able to edit an existing course, but create wholly new ones from scratch with an intuitive interface. The player selects from one of four themes (three – Toscana Sunset, Springtime Germany and Belgian High Fens – were named), adjusts the parameters of the course and the track is randomly generated from scratch. The parameters available include switching between a loop/circuit and a rally-style point-to-point track, selecting the weather, the time of day, the frequency of corners, the sharpness of corners and the bank angle. The track can be divided into up to four sectors and each sector given a different set of corner characteristics – so you can generate a long straight in one sector and a tight, complex series of corners in the next. Kazunori demonstrated all of these features and the track generation time was incredibly short. The track is limited to 6.5 miles/10km, but since that’s nearly twice the length of an average F1 track, even the most ardent future-Tilke should be happy!

Though some might prefer a full-scale track editor to recreate their own Road Atlanta, Spa-Francorchamps or Bathurst – Kazunori included – at the present time the level of customisability combined with the scope and detail of Gran Turismo means it would require a huge editor program and, of course, the resulting track may not be accessible to everyone, whereas GT5 Course Maker tracks will be available to race online.

Was talking to a guy at harvey norman yesterday. He had been to a conference and played the demo version of gt5. Said the damage is really good. He said that if you hit a wall and bend the steering then the wheel will actually pull to the side and shake, etc. Also release date here is nov 2

Amazing, like CCR4 etc from a thousand years ago.

At least you can get a Fanatec wheel.

i haven't played many racing games with a wheel, so don't know what they are like. i played wrc and it's damage wasn't too bad. made the car pull to one side if you crashed. i don't know how many racing games the guy at harvey norman had played with a wheel but he liked the fact that not only did the car handle differently, but the force feedback wheel also would sit crooked after a crash as well. so other games may do it as well, but as i said, i don't know, and i'm not sure about his experience.

play this game with a g25 and its pure sex.

playing prologue with it was pretty good, but i highly doubt this game is going to be a driving simulator. it will be like gt4, just a big database on cars and alot of tuning options.

still i will be getting the ultimate collectors edition to hit the shops here, so i gets the little sls car :ermm:

plus i go into a draw to win the real sls. even though no one outside of europe or US have a chance of winning the actual car. mercedes send a sls over here???? get it complied and registered etc??? bitch please. :)

apparently you will need about 10gb on the hard drive to get the most out of gt5 as far as loading speeds go.

Do you know how much other games use to install? I think GT5P was 4-6gb and Assassin's Creed 2 is 1.8gb i think. Upgrading the hard drive is so cheap it shouldn't be a problem tho.

yeah in the article where they said it could take up to 10gb they did say that prologue was about 6 or so. they said it will run on as little as 256mb, but for the full install you will need about 10gb. i only have final finatasy 13 and it takes up very little space.

i was going to buy a 120gb one and upgrade the hdd, but ended up getting a 250gb one because i got a free playtv and remote and it worked out cheaper than buying a 120gb, upgrading the hdd and then buying a playtv and remote. i was also going to wait for a gt5 game and console pack but i i figured that a playtv and remote is worth more than gt5 so getting the play tv free and buying the game works out cheaper.

I was going to do the same thing actually, buy a 120gb and put a 500gb in it. But i got the 250gb bundle with 3 games from eb since it worked out cheaper as well. But the first ps3 i got was faulty and had to get another one. It kept making a buzzing sound anytime there was some sort of graphic on the screen. If the screen was black, there was no buzz, as soon as a graphic comes up it starts buzzing. Got a replacement the next day though so it was ok. That limited blue ps3 is for japan only but i think there would be some sort of bundle for aus with a regular ps3. I didn't end up waiting for it since i pre ordered the sig edition :D

As you said before when you were talking to the guy at harvey norman about the damage, i was watching a video sum up of gamescon and they were talking about how eventually they couldnt get into 3rd after smashing the car a lot and had to skip to 4th gear. The last game i played that had that feature was v8 supercars lol. Just 2 months left now :(

about the 10 Gb thing..

I have an 80gb Ps3, for the last 3 yrs...... i was just wonderring if when u upgrade the HDD in the PS3 to 500GB, can you transfer all your files over, including saved game data??????

I want a new Hardrive cause my current one is almost full of movies.

    • For once a good news  It needed to be adjusted by that one nut and it is ok  At least something was easy But thank you very much for help. But a small issue is now(gearbox) that when the car is stationary you can hear "clinking" from gearbox so some of the bearing is 100% not that happy... It goes away once you push clutch so it is 100% gearbox. Just if you know...what that bearing could be? It sounding like "spun bearing" but it is louder.
    • Yeah, that's fine**. But the numbers you came up with are just wrong. Try it for yourself. Put in any voltage from the possible range and see what result you get. You get nonsense. ** When I say "fine", I mean, it's still shit. The very simple linear formula (slope & intercept) is shit for a sensor with a non-linear response. This is the curve, from your data above. Look at the CURVE! It's only really linear between about 30 and 90 °C. And if you used only that range to define a curve, it would be great. But you would go more and more wrong as you went to higher temps. And that is why the slope & intercept found when you use 50 and 150 as the end points is so bad halfway between those points. The real curve is a long way below the linear curve which just zips straight between the end points, like this one. You could probably use the same slope and a lower intercept, to move that straight line down, and spread the error out. But you would 5-10°C off in a lot of places. You'd need to say what temperature range you really wanted to be most right - say, 100 to 130, and plop the line closest to teh real curve in that region, which would make it quite wrong down at the lower temperatures. Let me just say that HPTuners are not being realistic in only allowing for a simple linear curve.
    • I feel I should re-iterate. The above picture is the only option available in the software and the blurb from HP Tuners I quoted earlier is the only way to add data to it and that's the description they offer as to how to figure it out. The only fields available is the blank box after (Input/ ) and the box right before = Output. Those are the only numbers that can be entered.
    • No, your formula is arse backwards. Mine is totally different to yours, and is the one I said was bang on at 50 and 150. I'll put your data into Excel (actually it already is, chart it and fit a linear fit to it, aiming to make it evenly wrong across the whole span. But not now. Other things to do first.
    • God damnit. The only option I actually have in the software is the one that is screenshotted. I am glad that I at least got it right... for those two points. Would it actually change anything if I chose/used 80C and 120C as the two points instead? My brain wants to imagine the formula put into HPtuners would be the same equation, otherwise none of this makes sense to me, unless: 1) The formula you put into VCM Scanner/HPTuners is always linear 2) The two points/input pairs are only arbitrary to choose (as the documentation implies) IF the actual scaling of the sensor is linear. then 3) If the scaling is not linear, the two points you choose matter a great deal, because the formula will draw a line between those two points only.
