I was going to start my install today but the wind here is crazy. Anyway, here is a pic of my cheap-ass upgrade.

Core was $99, piping $60, Silicone joiners/bends $120 plus a few clamps.

Should be fitting this week if anybody wants to help.

Interesting Scotty.

What is the core?

Pipe diameter?

All Monza/Autotecnica. Supercheap are jobbing them as they are changing to a different brand.

Core is 450 x 300 x 76mm, all piping is 76mm also which is the same a standard. Its all good quality too especially for that price.

ohh really?? might be a cheap upgrade for us all if they are getting rid of them

the stock piping isnt too bad for factory IMO, so there is a saving there!

Might want to ring around now for the core as I got the last one.

The factory piping is 76mm but seems to be plastic across the front.

yeah its probably plastic coated metal piping. so it doesnt easily twist and break when things move around.

anyway, i dont have cash so i wont be ringing  but depending on how hard it is to mount, a more budget core locally purchased could be a better upgrade for us all that dont want to spend $2k+shipping to get a kit here from japan

$2000?, this is costing $250-$300 if I do the all the piping. I couldn't justify even $600, I would just keep the original.

Looks good Scott,

Ill be getting mine next week - I am just picking up one of the cheap cooling pro kits from Just jap - I think a few piping modifications shouldnt be too difficult, and you get a fair bit of pipe with those kits.

let me know how it goes, and take some pics along the way if you get a chance!

Cheers,

Ben.

I got the cooler in, just. The factory piping is more like 60mm most of the way, I upgraded it to 76mm to match the throttle body. This required a new pipe to be made to attach the blow off valve and wastegate line.

A bit more work than I was expecting.

Looks good though :)

You'll have to let us know what type of gain you achieve out of this modification.

I was talking to someone the other week, I can't remember who it was (I've been making heaps of calls to get everything together for the high-flow turbo install etc) and they were saying that a high performance FMIC makes a substantial difference over the stock one.

it only makes a difference if youre increasing boost levels, if youre not, then it will just add lag as its filling a bigger volume. that said, its cooling properties will be better, and summer intake temps will probably be better than the stock cooler, even if you dont turn up the boost
