Remember decat is illegal for the street, and its expensive if you get caught. Cant remember which state it was but someone posted about a $4500 fine recently. Besides which it makes the pollution from you car much worse, so you've got to be a bit of a prick to run one...

Oh I always thought you'd have to be an insane idiot to actually run bare pipe without even the pretense of a cat shell lol.

BTW the EPA tester the other night could tell my cat was empty from listening to it, they do give things a bit more of a barkm not to mention a hard to describe sound of the turbo spooling.

haha well with an RB25, hollow cat and no mufflers I got an average of 110db and a max of 128, but you get used to the noise and its only at random times like when you're driving down an alley or being emissions tested you realise 'oh dear thats loud as fark', fyi I'm going to go stealthy exhaust route now (at least most of the time lol)

I put a decat on my x-force system. Hardly noticed any sound difference at all.

you got to find it to fine it. You always get a chance to replace with a cat before they look at it even if this so called 4.5-10k fine exists.

OK.Did the decat pipe experiment.Noticed a little increase in performance. The exhaust note was maybe 5 decibels louder but had an awesome throaty sound when on boost, absolutely loved it.Did notice how noxious the fumes were though,so after 2 days of driving i put the cat back on.I've decided instead of getting rid of the cat i'm going to get rid of the mid muffler. The kakimoto exhaust i have has the big oval muffler at the back and between that and the mid muffler i can hardly hear the exhaust!Cheers for all the input and replies fellas.

    • Hope you aren't too sore after that one, might take a day or 2 to notice yet and I guess it is a loooooong drive home. On the bright side, tube frame front end is a thing at superlap, right?

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
    • Yeah dunno why johhny posted that here with no context, just post on FB/insta bro where he put it up?  Laine had an off at T4 during Thurs prac, he's ok, car is less than perfect, they are done for the weekend, he can fill in the rest. Bando also binned it like 100m up the road.
