Was looking at this site: http://www.numberplatetrader.com.au/start.htm

Some of the plates are pretty expensive. Note that "GTR 34" is on the NSW for sale list and advertised for $8K. Does anyone know someone that has actually bought or sold Number plates for Big dollars?? Or is it a Gee up??

Got me thinking, how much could I sell mine for?!?

That's to 'rent' them off the RTA every year. So whoever has it, has to pay $7700 to the RTA every 12 months... That is seperate to the amount he paid the previous owner for that right...

yeah NSW sux with their number plate scheme. in qld you buy the number plate and you own it. no yearly fee or anything like that. i paid $365 for my plates and 3 months later the price went up to $395, LOL.

the autobarn here actually had plates that said "mad maz" for say a while back for $2000, which was actually a good price because the cost of buying the prestige plates new was $2200 at the time.

but yes, some people do pay stupid prices for plates. usually the ones that go for the most are ones associated with hotrods

actually there was a vw golf parked out the front of my shop today with the plates SR. seen it round town a few times. honestly if i was paying $2500 or whatever the prestige plates are in qld now, i would be wanting to make full use of the 6 letters and a space available to me

oh i just remembered a thread on here years ago where someone was getting angry because heaps of hotrods have plates using the numbers 32, 33 and 34 and someone had to explain to them that it was because that was the year model of the car, they weren't putting them on because of a trend started by skyline owners

LOL what a jackass. Typical riceboy ignorant of anything but Jap culture!

Good personalised numberplates do indeed sell for large sums of money. Problem is, 90% of numberplates for sale were bought by arrogant toffees from their RTA thinking they could make a penny on being the first one to come up with it. There are some absolute shockers on eBay. Some of the worst I have seen are BL-1942 (Bruce Lee, born 1942) which was asking $5000, and LEXUAL (Lexus and sexual spliced, go figure) for $10,000. I don't see the point to numberplates that state what the car is...unless it's a very unique, not easily identifiable car (or a classic). It's just pointless when you see RED-XR6 on a car that most people with eyeballs can see is a Red XR6.

My grandmother's numberplates "365" sold here in Victoria for an upper range 5 digit figure. They were on an old Mercedes worth 1/5th of that (owned from new though).

I love when you see really ghey plates that some clown has put on their car and paid extra for.... a couple that come to mind that I've seen here in Adelaide are a VN commo with "CALAY" plates and a VX Senator with "SENETOR" plates. ;)

I do occasionally see clever plates that would make the expense worth while

i dont mind personalised plates i actually have a pair [KOUKLO] most likely only greeks know what it means...but bad thing bout personalised plates is that people will always know who you are..so if you get on someones bad side you cant park it just anywhere and leave your car lol.

lol at some of the prices

I'd say mine are decent, be better than some of the ones I've found for WA on there & I wouldn't try selling them for near the prices some people have....

    • Its a 2002 vr-x four VQ25DET, silver. Coil overs, lowered, polished alloys and sport exhaust. Bit of a project, was sitting in a shed for a while but runs and drives great.
    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
