hows this build coming along ?

Hi

The cars coming along very well, just finished getting all the sound deadening out and cut the rear parcel shelf and wall out, and cleaned all the imperfections out, it look very nice. Construction of the cage will begin very soon, still tossing up the idea to stitch weld the chassis and add more bracing in the cage.

As far as engine goes, ideas change like the wind, but most likely be running a JUN bottom end (maybe), also would anyone like to swap, I got a Brand New Trust T88 Mainfold with new 50mm Trust Waste Gate Never Been Used want to swap for a HKS T51R V-Band Manifold and a 60mm Wastegate.

I Have just order a heap of carbon goodies for the car to make it look the part:

-Carbon Grill

-Carbon Front Diffuser (Abflug Style)

-Carbon Rear Diffuser (Top Secret Style)

-Carbon Tomei Style Headlight intake.

More Pics coming soon.

Cheers

Benny

This is a very nice project.

Love to see some more pictures.

The only Achilles I can see in your setup is the gearbox. It will get you in the 9 but be very difficult to get into the 8 with it.

How fast has Mark and Paul done in this box?

Theo Woollett, got into the 8 with the ppg dog box, but it took him a very long time. His gearbox maintenance bill, if he was not sponsor, would have been very big too.

While you are still at the drawing board stage, it might be worthwhile to think about a sequential gearbox (OS88 or Hollinger). It will save you a lot of money and heart ache in the long run.

That was my 1st thought aswell

I didnt think there was much difference in HP rating between the 38gk and T62r

The 38gk is an 1100hp turbo and the HKS 1200hp

Either way I doubt either would be big enough to run 8's in a GTR

huh ??.... reece mcgregor used a T51R SPL to run 7's

althought this wasnt using radial tyres... "Dunlop SP Sport Dragway Special Tyres"

Quick Update,

The car is coming along great, our initial completion date was January, but you know how these things go delays, waiting for parts and have not had the time off to do anything. Anyway rollcage has been given to a professional welder, looks awesome will be stiff as a board. The Custom Jun Stroker kit arrived this week along with some Jun Hi-Step Cams, so engine will hopefully be done very soon (cant wait). The problem we have at the moment is the interior, we cant decide whether to carbon overlay everything or flock it. I wanna go with carbon, it will just take ages to do thats all.

Possible Parts Update list:

-Wilwood Front Brakes & R33 GTR Brembo Rears

-Full Ikeya Formula Suspension setup.

-6 Boost Manifold & HKS 60mm Wastegate

-Whiteline Swaybars

-Plus much more

P.S needs coilovers for car for drag setup HKS Drag Coilovers would be nice, if anyone has any for sale, also chasing a 3.5" or 4" titanium or stainless catback exhaust.

Also will someone please take this Trust Manifold and Wastegate of my hands!!!!!

    • Sounds like you've got an interesting adventure ahead here with local support if you have trouble! My guess is that, unboosted, you will be OK with a small upgrade like -9. What will happen is that once the stock ECU sees more airflow than it expects it will add a heap of fuel and pull a heap of timing to be safe because it can't understand how it could get that much air without there being an issue. You will see clouds of black smoke and it won't pull hard through the midrange and top end. So, overall it will be a bit frustrating but should be OK. If you are still nervous set the base timing back 2o through the CAS, but it will be even more sluggish everywhere. As said above through...this is not my guarantee your engine won't be blown into a million pieces, leaving you looking for very hard to find parts A better idea is get a computer with logging ASAP, wire in a wide band O2 sensor and a use remote tuner. I've done multiple cars this way and while it is not as good as a specific tune on a dyno they can get it 90% right. I'd suggest if you can afford an R33 GTR these days you can afford an ECU and tune. And if you can't afford that you sure won't be able to afford the rebuild if it goes bad in the meantime,.
    • Yeah it would be nice if someone took the time to put that sort of information together, but there are a lot of variations in looms. I think you are making this way hard for yourself if you just want to get it running....sourcing an SR20 with the right wiring will be a billion times easier than matching the RB loom to an S15 chassis. If you do end up going this way, you just need to trace every wire in the loom with a multimeter, 95% of them will go to a location you can confirm at the ECU.....and then post it up for the next person who needs it
    • Just top it up with water, and keep a general idea of how much you added. It is normal for water to be pushed into and pulled out of the reservoir through the cap, and it should not be more than half full or it will be likely to overflow when hot. Any decent mechanic can do a pressure test of the cooling system to confirm if you have a leak. Keep in mind if it is only leaking a little and when hot it may well evaporate before you see it hit the ground
    • I'd ask the shop what they used and use that. Mixing coolants is sometimes OK, sometimes not, and you have know the details of each coolant to know whether it's a good idea or not.
    • Is it alright to top up with just another green coolant?
