If you had to remove the engine and all the other engine bay stuff probably a good week to do it all properly, i already had my engine out, so it only took a couple of days.

Hi Guys

Have finally collected all the tooling i need to pull apart my gearbox, have found the problem with it, there were 2 crunchy bearings on the mainshaft making all that noise, so all in all a fairly cheap fix. Was gonna replace all the synchros and bulk rings and all the other little bearing but have found out nissan no long make spare parts for the FS5R30A Gearbox anymore so that was a real kick in the nuts. So i just be replacing the 2 bearings and slapping her back together.

Also just ordered a ship load of braid and fittings as i am re-doing my fuel system so i can run on e85 and also sent my turbo housing, manifolds and dumps away to be ceramic coated. I bought another set of cam covers and still tossing up the idea of getting them chromed or anodized, hopefully my newly painted engine bay will look better than every before.

Cheers

Benny

Yeah Cal gonna buy it by pallet 4x205Lt Drums, my r33 will only run e85 for power runs and drag strip, don't plan on using it for street use. But the R32 will most probably running on e85 all the time.

Hi Guys

Another update, got the engine in the car today, all went well. Still waiting on a few more parts to come in the mail and have to order the Vipec V44 yet but all in good time. Gonna send my other Cam covers away to Hi Octane next week to get powder coated (still don't no what colour to get yet). Should have my new Hankook tyres tomorrow, and hopefully here back about my new car i am getting. I have put a deposit down on a 2008 Mitsubishi Evo X MR a nice Black one as the white ones seem to be to expensive still, will hopefully have it all sorted out tomorrow as well. Anyways here's some pictures of todays progress:

Super Jealous

Hey Ben, whered you get the bearing kit for your gearbox? I've heard CBC Bearings sell a kit. Need to replace the bearings in mine I'm pretty sure, when I have a daily I will be pulling the box out and doing that. Will give me time to see if everything else is all good and order parts (if they are available) if I have to replace anything.

Back on your car but, engine bay respray looks good, its suprising how much of an improvement it makes especially on darker cars. My old Calais got much nicer with some paint in the engine bay

Back before I could afford a Skyline :P

Yeah Cal i got the bearings from the bearing shop across the road from bob jane tmart's in Victoria St i think it was United Bearings Cost about $30 each, you will need a lot of gear to pull the gearbox apart cost me about $1200 in tools just to do the job as you need puller kits and hydraulic press for putting the bearings on. As for the engine bay, the paint job makes it look 100% better than before should look fairly nice once complete, deleting all the ABS shit makes a whole lot better aswell.

We have a press at home, and dad has plenty of bearing pullers etc at his work so hopefully should be right, He seems to think hes got the gear to do it so should be alright lol

$30 each is alright, did you replace all of them? It seems I have at least one worn bearings on one of the shafts (has a nasty clunk in 5th gear and makes some noises when releasing the clutch in neutral) Thinking about getting a lightweight flywheel while the gearbox is out but not 100% sure on that yet

Anyway, enought thread stealing. Will talk about this further in the Mackay thread if you have any more information about what you found with the bearings and what you ended up having to replace.

Back to NUR33 :) haha

Change of plans again... still have some ideas floating around in my head but i'm leaning towards turning the R33 into a full and proper time attack car now as i have no need to have 2 street cars, as the Evo X will be here in a couple of weeks. So everything will pretty much be getting sold and starting from scratch. If anyone is interested in any parts give me a yell, i'm in the process of writing out a list of parts that have to go.

    • Ok I get you. But isn’t the butterfly intake a headache with the +T?  see this is my plan so far but please advise me into the right direction.  Nistune Ecu, 1000cc Bosch injectors, TD05 or TD06 Kinugawa turbo using stock rb25det exhuast manifold, walbro fuel pump unsure of model I think it’s 450/460, spitfire coils and sparks to suit and a R35 MAF sensor and boost sensor.    I was thinking maybe do a cheap eBay plenum $400-500 or try find a stock det neo intake. I think I’d port match it so it’s getting the full capacity but open to advice please.  Thanks
    • The issue now is the 'fuel cut' while driving, and when it happend, it does not stall. This, I did not test the fuel pressure while driving as I cannot with a fuel pressure gauge. I do have Nistune logs, yes. I have also replaced the MAF Sensor.   Also related to the FPG Fuel Hanger – I just realized that I need a Deutsch Crimp Tool to crimp some cables for the FPG Fuel Hanger. Need to purchase additional cables as the kit only included 2, which are for the float. FPG has not responded to my emails so far since purchasing. I thought about taking it to someone and having it done professionally, but I am reluctant since everyone I took it to messed up in some way.
    • There's a good German place in Brisbane if youre up for the drive 😛
    • The German place in Cabramatta was rock solid, fresh pretzel cooked to order back then. Then it went all quiet, after all the poker machines were removed, then I believe it closed for good. I did drive past the other week and noticed outdoor lighting a big screen, but no idea what is there now.
    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
