Its a good question..

But its a stupid law (power/weight) .. how on earth can they enforce it? UNless they demand an on the spot dyno check. If not, you can easily detune your car to run lower power.

Same with insurance companies, they wont be able to enofrce it, so I doubt it comes into play.

If your car isnt on the list on vicroads, then id say your safe.

Ask your insurance company.

I got pulled over last night for a 'routine license check' while I was dropping my mates home.

It was 12 at night and I didnt have my license on me, nor P plates.. the copper was pretty nice, and was more interested in how a 'p plater' could afford a car like this. But he was still a bit pissed at me because I didnt have my p plates up, and I got a $105 fine. I have to take my license in this afternoon.

He didnt mention anything about not being able to drive it, but he did look a bit stunned at the SAFC on my dash, and the Electronic boost controller idling away.. oh, and the boost guage mounted on my pillar.

I just think he was bored and wanted to check out my car.

Oh.. and fine me :D

You're lucky, for not having your p's up its a one month suspension, and a 500 buk fine, and not haviong your licence is a 50 buk fine, consider yourself lucky man.

It is legal to not carry your liscence on you, they can't get you for that...

My friend got pulled over for a roadworthy check, he has an immaculate looking BMW E36, The cop didn't mind that he didn't have his liscence on him. My friend found it funny that the cop wanted to get in to rev the engine to see if there was smoke coming out of the exhaust...

Winfield, you said in the first thread:

134kw per tone base on the power output as 184kw and 1370kg.

134kw is more than 125kw. The car is P plate restricted. Full stop, end of story. Reguardless if its on that 'list'.

Wether or not the police will enforce the rule (like any other) is a completely different story. Most of the time they will, coz they can (bastards!).

A mate of mine was pulled over driving a WRX on his Ps and lost his licence for 3 months.

At the end of the day, if you want the car, get it. Dont let the first few years of P plate hell ruin your dream. Skylines are fantastic!

well i moved up north from melb in december last year but... I was pulled over driving an STi and an S2000, both I beleive are well over the power to weight ratio, and I was wearing P plates in both instances.

Neither time did the police even mention it being to powerful. First time when I got pulled over in the STi, the cop wanted to know how I got my hands on 1 of 400 of the 4 doors and how it went etc... and the time I got pulled up in the s2000, the cops were joking that I must have robbed a bank to get an 80grand car on my P's.

Be polite & respectful and they tend to leave u alone.

well i actually have a NSW license.. as im in Tweed heads. (right on the border) and to tell you the truth I really wouldnt know..

Havent been pulled over since I have been here, but have driven the new wrx, the new wrx STi, cv6 & cv8 monaro, silvia s15 etc and never had a problem with the police - so I guess they dont have the rule or they just dont give a ****.

But yeh - i was kinda crapping my self with the STi as I did a bit of 4 wheel drift from malvern road into chapel street at 2am on a week night and there was a bloody cop sitting at the lights. I just said "sorry, only just got the car today and didnt realise the power it had". Cop was just asking about how i got the first one etc etc and then let me off with a warning for doooorifting :D

  • 1 year later...

i wouldnt care if i was you...vast majority of p-platers driving high powered cars now

Ive been pulled over 3 times in the past 2 weeks

They have looked under my bonnet everytime, with a nice big pod hanging out right in front...out of all 3 times they just asked me how many turbos do i have and thats about it.

My car is pretty sleeper style, the fmic is hidden same with my other stuff, most of em dont know wat the **** they are looking at and always ask me wats that and wats this etc lol

u dont get hassled much at all, as long as u dont bring attention to urself :D

P.S im collecting the Breath tester tubes thingys...ive got 3 now lol does anyone else keep theirs ?

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
    • Hi.. Just another problem. So maybe you can help. I(my mechanic) done swap from my RB20DE NEO to RB25DET NEO. Everything is OK but we have a boost cut. Coils/Plugs are ok...AFM is ok. ECU is ok. I have Walbro 255 but it "changed" sound few months ago(you can hear it ouside) you did not hear that when it was new(maybe faulty?) Sooo...what now? What can cause this boost cut? It is even when you standing still...
