Het gotRICE, what you talking about

I know I have these specs with my a series 1 r33 gts25t..... I actually tested 1st to 4th speeds out today

Drivetrain

Transmission 5 speed manual

Gear Ratios Maximum Speed in Gears (* theoretical)

1 3.214 62 km/h (38 mph)

2 1.925 104 km/h (65 mph)

3 1.302 154 km/h (96 mph)

4 1.000 200 km/h (124 mph)

5 0.752 266 km/h (165 mph)*

As far as I know mine is all standard Diff/Gearbox.

Weird, I wouldn't have said it made those sorts of speeds either, but I plugged the gearbox ratio / diff ratio information in, and it seems to come up similar. From a quick poke around on the site, R34/R33 manual gearbox have the same diff ratio of: 4.11 (apparently auto r34 is more like 4.0, and 4.363 on r33). And using the gearbox ratios as above (which seem to match up with what I've read through google/sau-search, of 1 - 3.214, 2 - 1.925, 3 - 1.302, 4 - 1.000, 5 - 0.752). And taking into account R34 wheel size of 225/45/R17, and 7500RPM...

R33/R34 Manual

1st 67kph

2nd 113kph

3rd 167kph

4th 218kph

5th 290kph

I would have said the figures were slightly lower than that from my own personal experience, but it can't imagine it would be too far off.

Well at the drag strip i was reading 13.7 @ 100mph, and 100mph is 160.9km/h, and i was well into 4th crossing the line.

Probly not the greatest idea to admit doing 200km/h on a public road either.

But i guess where our debate conflicts is at what RPM are you reaching 160km/h? Clearly if your shifting at the stock redline then id say i was correct. But if your talking about non-standard rev limits thats a different story.

Both of thosae videos are pretty spot on at shifting at 7000rpm. If you went to 8000 then sure you'd get 160+ easily.

Not the greatest idea to assume it wasn't done on a dyno / drag strip / race track / private runway either

you should of been well into 4th.

When you change from say 3rd to 4th at 7000rpm the revs dont drop to 1000rpm do they?

It will drop from say 7000rpm to like 5000+rpm depending on the driver. So you would be doing 5000+rpm in 4th @ 160km/h "well into 4th i'd say"

I fail to see your point in that post. As your now not disagreeing with me, just trying to pick a hole in a comment made.

Regardless of how we interpret "well into 4th", me meaning i was in 4th for a second or two before crossing the line. Not just releasing the clutch as i crossed it. I was hard back on the accelerator.

Go out to your private airstrip/dyno/drag strip, hold the revs at 7000rpm in 3rd gear, and take a picture of the speedo. The 2nd video CLEARLY shows that @ 7000rpm the car is only doing approx 145-150km/h.

lol,

its like 5-10km/h off, take into account that video wasn't made when the car was brand new and that the gear speeds are theoretical as I stated.

You don't even know if that video IS a completely stock car down to exhaust and rims.

Anyway your the one who said....

Dont know what R33 box/diff your running but it doesnt make 160km/h in 3rd.

in return to someone saying....

Just put're in 3rd gear, RB25DET GB+Diff goes up to 160km/h or so in third and you should feel a bit of pull

When clearly 3rd gear can do a "theoretical" 154 km/h (96 mph)

im not being picky I just think you where wrong to say "it doesn't make 160km/h in 3rd." :D

yer just anotherthing if i dont have any cold air intakes or pod is having a fmic still considered unroadworthy in victoria ?

In VIC you can only have one intake mod.

So either a FMIC or an air pod.

Some ppl go both but they shield up the pod, its a bit dodgy, but you can do it that way. LOL!

D'oh, okay I got my cars mixed up - I was thinking my N14SSS for 7500rpm, not R34 - which is 7000rpm redline :D

.. guessing r33 is the same?

By my calculations using RB25DET Gbox/diff(4.111) in 3rd(1.302) with with 245/45/18's = 26.68" dia, = 167km/h @ 7,000rpm, which I did only 2 days ago

But that wasn't my point, the point is if you want to feel the boost, 3rd gear goes high *enough* that you can safely go down into it when on the highway

Ahhh that'd do it .. 245/45/18 is *huge*. I'd highly doubt that's a legal fitment, speedo would be nearly 7% out... AFAIK you're only allowed a 10mm diameter increase without it getting engineered (and requirement to get speedo recalibrated).

225/45/17 = 634.3mm diameter (1992.7mm circ)

vs

245/45/18 = 677.7mm diameter (2129.1mm circ)

... Which would explain why the speedo is reading 167kph :D ... You're actually only doing 156kph (107% of 156kph = 167kph)

If you had larger diameter tyres, it'd be the other way around. Your actual road speed will be higher than the displayed speed on the speedo.

D'oh! You're right!

I got it the wrong way around .. *confused* ..

.. so the speedo would *show* 156kph, but you're doing 167kph with that sorta circumference change - Well there goes that theory on what's going on!

    • I sense an out of control build thread coming up lololol. That 450kW goal will end up being 600 to 700kW LOL.
    • Nice, thanks for sharing your progress....that's a pretty long list you are putting into it!
    • Decided to upgrade my pressurised plastic coolant expansion tank for a fancy pants alloy version The OEM versions can get brittle, even the new plastic one I got when I first got the car is a starting to show signs of "stress" I wasn't cheap, but it is basically unbreakable
    • Morning all, I have an RB25DET Neo that's in need of a rebuild. Will need new pistons etc due to detonation damage. Would anyone be able to recommend a shop in Southeast Queensland who I could bring my long motor to for a rebuild? Just want someone who knows RBs and whos built a bunch of them before. TLDR - recommended engine shops for RB rebuild.
    • Gday Thought it was about time I started a build thread! As expected this project has snowballed into a huge financial liability, but unless you’re strong willed and responsible, it’s not a surprise. Background -  My first turbo car was an R32 GTS-4, got my full license and then totalled my Au Falcon a week later, so while trying to sell my RMZ450 dirtbike to buy another car a bloke offered to swap the R32 which at the time I felt like I was ripped off but looking back and seeing prices of those now ($40kish) it was a good deal, I didn’t know enough about these cars to appreciate what I had so sold it before the RB20 blew up. Between here and there, out of 12 cars I’ve owned the note worthy ones are a V8 Lexus SC400 (soarer), a couple of XR6 Turbos and my beloved S15 which I had for about 3 years, picked it up for $12500, repairable write off but she was fine, gun metal grey/pewter and bone stock/unmolested until I got my hands on it. Ended up spending about the value of the car and 280kw, 2 demerit points by the time I got defected and sold it for $14500 (also $40kish in today’s market, rip) Fast forward to the present day, I’m in a much better position financially and daily an MQ Triton (great cars, pipe down Ranger Bois), I cruised marketplace and car sales for a few months looking for another R32, the best deal I could find was an absolute rust bucket half finished project for $12000, until this R33 popped up in Port Macquarie for $18k - unregistered and barely running but decent shape, kept an eye on it for a few weeks and the price steadily dropped, $16k then $15k then $14k, that was the point where I was like shit someone’s gonna snatch this up! It was owned by a young bloke who had big plans but him and his missus just had a baby so smartest move financially for them but big gain for me. So 2 days later I’m towing a car trailer to pick this thing up. Roughly 2 weeks and $3500 later I’m cruising around Newcastle in my beat up R33 all smiles and dose noises! It only needed some basic shit to get it going, coil packs and air flow meter, electrical stuff and all fluids changed, 158k kms and running pretty good, nice smooth engine after oil and coolant flush - when I say coolant I mean it had been filled up with tap water, every gallery and heater element was filled with rust, 8-9 flushes later and still had brown liquid coming out but she’ll be right. The car was painted R34 Bayside Blue at some point but whether it was a cheap job or just not looked after is anyone’s guess, clear coat flaking like sausage roll.  Was rethinking my choices and contemplating life, had it up for sale for $22k - still cheaper than any registered R33 but got little interest, next minute I had an opportunity at work - 6 months overseas for good money, so that was a no brainer, fast forward again and here we are with a 50% finished project. Current Mods - 200ish KW according to butt dyno Was tuned with Apexi PowerFC EBC (old school Greddy Profec)  Stock turbo (more shaft play than a Tinder date gone right) 3inch turbo back Varex muffler  Aftermarket injectors of mystery size, Power FC showed 36% duty cycle at full boost so not behd good size Someone had good intentions but stuck with the stock R33 MAF so we had misfires at 6000rpm due to the MAF hitting 5.2V So far I’ve redone the entire interior with carpet form Car Mats Direct, new Seats and steering wheel from Autotechnica, also sound system by Autobarn (mainly Kicker) Also MCA pro comfort coil overs - Hands down best purchase yet, worlds of improvement over the tired 30yrold shocks Goals - 450kw/600hp on flex tune New paint job - Midnight Purple 2 Engine is at the shop getting rebuilt with forged rods a pistons, new valves and springs, ATI Harmonic balancer, Aeroflow 7.5L sump, rear head drain and oil restrictors as per oil control thread* and cam covers modded for larger breathers, other stuff I can’t recall of the top of my head Parts purchased and to be installed once the engine is done -  Engine loom from Wiring Specialties including these options: Haltech Nexus S3 R35 Coil pack conversion  PRP Dual Trigger kit Fan controller  Other Parts -  262 Kelford Cams Turbo - Hypergear ATR43SS3-ProS with T51R mod (whistly boi) 6 boost manifold (high mount) 50mm Turbosmart Pro gate (plumbed back for legal reasons) HKS Super Turbo Exhaust with High Flow Cat Custom 3.5inch dump and front pipe 1500cc Bosch injectors  Fuel Pump walbro 525 Haltech MAP and IAT sensors Haltech Flex Sensor Fenix Radiator with dual thermo fans LS1 Alternator Kit Oil Filter Relocation from EFI solutions and Cooling pro oil cooler Many other things sitting in my garage waiting for that engine to come back.
